Tasted by rjpbath on 4/22/2017 & rated 93 points: Intense berries, plums, violets; dusty, long lasting. Just a superb PQR. I wish I had much more of it. At peak now. (2081 views)
Tasted by KVM on 2/21/2017: Musty, slightly corked, lacking fruit nose. Lean, clean cherry fruit palate. (2122 views)
Tasted by Pedro G on 1/4/2015 & rated 90 points: Aroma intenso e equilibrado, fruta madura e tostados finos. Estructurado, com peso e volumen, suave, sabroso e longo. Perfecto com lechal. (3525 views)
Tasted by Padrone on 1/7/2014 & rated 88 points: Should have given it another 2 years, but it was still tasty. Nice fruit and smooth texture. (4602 views)
Tasted by zivagolee on 7/9/2013 & rated 85 points: Was not impressed at all like the 2003 (5096 views)
Tasted by Squire on 2/26/2013 & rated 92 points: Almost a mouth full of fruit - cherry, plum, blackberry with integrated tannins. A very pleasant bottle of wine; we really enjoyed it from the first pour. This vintage is ready to drink now. Enjoy. (3866 views)
Tasted by reddelicious on 11/26/2012 & rated 88 points: al veel beter dan in januari 2012, nu mooi gebalanceerd; zachter en voller qua smaak, nog duidelijk aanwezige tannine, maar beter verteerbaar (4032 views)
Tasted by Zellao on 7/13/2012 & rated 89 points: Great Example of a Good Crianza. (2594 views)
Tasted by Doblk on 6/8/2012 & rated 88 points: Greenish nose. Nice tempranillo spiciness. Sharp with tannic fullness. A bit flat at the end. Very good. (2429 views)
Tasted by Papies on 5/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Modernish style of ribera del duero, with good oak and extraction. well round, fruit forward and very pleasing but lacks compelxity and feels a bit too mainstream. Will not dissapoint but will not excite either. 90-1, has the stuffing to last quite a few years but not sure if it will get better. (2060 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 11/7/2011: Pretty poor stuff. You would be pushed to pinpoint this as a Ribera del Duero - it lacks any depth or meatiness and can be best described as a rather thin, generic red wine. This is usually an excellent producer so one has to assume there is some serious vintage variation going on here. Very poor wine. (2425 views)
Tasted by Jozefs on 7/31/2011 & rated 87 points: Nice fruit, but a bit watery and light, with a slightly bitter, unpleasant aftertaste, and a mid-palate hole that detracts from the nice fruitiness. Certainly not as good as in better years. (2217 views)
Tasted by stadler on 5/14/2011: Salon de la Revue du Vin de France 2011 (Palais Brongniart, Paris, France): Pas très frappant, dégusté un peu trop frais, sensations agréables en bouche mais sans grand effet. (3435 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 5/11/2011: Fenavin 2011 (Feria Nacional del Vino /Biannual Spanish Wine Fair - Ciudad Real Spain); 5/10/2011-5/12/2011 (Ciudad Real - España): Tamed by time. Complex and lovely nose with ashes and game, white pepper and strawberries. Concentrated in the mouth. Very good.

Domado por el tiempo. Nariz compleja y adorable con cenIzas y caza, pimienta blanca y fresas. Concentrado en bOca. Muy bueno. (3764 views)
Tasted by JOsgood on 8/31/2010: Nicely balanced with smooth tannins and plenty of depth. Nice pair with paella de carne. (1571 views)

Pago de los Capellanes

Producer website

Pago de los Capellanes is located 1 kilometre from the village of Pedrosa de Duero, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero region. It is owned by the Rodero-Villa family and they now have over 70 hectares of vineyards.

The Tinto Joven is a blend of Tinto Fino (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Merlot (10%), and is matured in oak casks for 5 months.

The Crianza is a blend of Tinto Fino (85%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and spends 12 months in a mixture of American and French oak.

The Reserva is made from the same blend as the Crianza but is made from the finest fruit available and is matured in oak for 18 months.

Tempranillo

Varietal character (Appellation America) | TAPAS: Tempranillo Advocates, Producers and Amigos Society

Tempranillo is the premium red wine grape variety from the Rioja and Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Tempranillo's aromas and flavors often combine elements of berryish fruit, herbaceousness, and an earthy-leathery minerality. Being low in acidity and sugar content, it is commonly blended with Carignan (Mazuela), Grenache (Garnacha), Graciano, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The varietal is at its best in top Riojas, where oak aging is employed to generate increased complexity and harmony. From the best sites, these wines can be remarkably concentrated with great aging potential. New wines from this region are darker, and more robust, with more dynamic primary fruit flavors than traditionally styled examples. These wines seem to reflect the influence of Spain's other key region for Tempranillo, Ribera del Duero. Regardless of style, Riojas tend to be medium bodied wines, with more acid than tannins. These wines generally feature Tempranillo blended with Garancha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. For these wines, there are three quality levels, which will appear on the label. Everyday drinking wines fall under the category of "Crianza", "Reserva" denotes more complex and concentrated wines, and "Gran Reserva" refers to the most intense wines, made only in the best years.

The same labeling scheme applies to wines from Ribera del Duero, which, like Rioja, is dominated by Tempranillo and shares similar blending grapes. Again, Ribera del Duero wines are generally darker and more powerful than the most traditional Riojas. These wines also generally see less oak treatment than Riojas. From Rioja, we like wines from Allende, Marqués de Cáceres, Montecillo, and Cune. In Ribera del Duero, consider Dominio de Pingus, Emilio Moro, Convento San Francisco, and Pesquera.
Pair older-style Rioja with simple meats like chicken, leg of lamb, and pork loin. However, the newer style of Rioja and Ribera del Duero works especially well with bolder meat dishes or an aged Spanish cheese like Manchego or Idiazabal.

Spain

Vinos de España - Wines of Spain (Instituto Español de Comercio Exterior) | Wikipedia
Wine Map on weinlagen-info

Spain is the third largest wine producing nation in the world, occupying the majority of the Iberian Peninsula with vast diversity in climate, culture, and of course, wine. From inky, dark reds of the [Priorat] to dry, white Finos from Andalusia, Spain can easily boast of elaborating a wide variety of notable styles. Within Spain there are currently 62 demarcated wine regions, of which a handful have gained international recognition: [Rioja], Priorat and [Ribera del Duero]. Yet these regions are only a small sample of the high quality wines Spain produces. Regions such as Cava, Penedes, Somontano, Galicia, Rueda and Jerez are only a few of the numerous regions worthy of exploration throughout Spain. Spain can also lay claim to having the most land under vine in the world, growing up to, by some accounts, 600 indigenous varietals of which Tempranillo is their most well known. Other popular varietals include [Garnacha], Bobal and Monastrell for reds and for whites; the infamous [sic] Palomino Fino grape which is used in the production of sherry wine, Pedro Ximenez in Montilla Morilles, Albarino used in the creation of the bright, effervescent wines of Galicia, and Verdejo in Rueda. - Source: - Catavino.net

Spain is not in the forefront of winemaking for its dessert wines, other than for its sweet wines from Sherry country including the highly revered Olorosos (when sweetened). But apart from Sherry Spain has a range of styles of dessert wines, ranging from the those made from the Pedro Ximenez grape primarily in Jerez and Montilla-Moriles) to luscious, red dessert wines made in the Mediterranean from the Garnacha (Grenache) grape. Some good Moscatels are made in Mallorca, Alicante and Navarre. The northwest corner of Spain, Galicia, with its bitter Atlantic climate, is even making dessert wines, called “Tostadillos” in the village of Ribadivia (similar to France’s “Vin de Paille”). The Canary Islands have made interesting dessert wines for centuries (they are mentioned by Shakespeare, for example) and in recent years the quality of winemaking has been improved and the Canary Islands wines are being better marketed now. The winemaking styles for “Vinos Dulces” are also diverse, from “Late Harvest” (Vendimia Tardía) to “Fortified Wines” (Fermentación Parcial). Based on in-spain.info.
