(1266 views) | | Tasted by Nature Boy on 1/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Still a bit youthful, but coming along nicely. In ten to fifteen years it ought to be at it's peak. Color is still purple and almost opaque, nose is fragrant with cabernet franc, plums, pepper, slight blueberry and boysenberry, taste is smoothing out with distinct cabernet franc and blueberry with a taste I can't quite put my finger on; slightly metallic tasting with pronounced mixed berry flavor.
It's coming together but isn't there quite yet. The metallic taste is actually not off putting, but it is curious. I think this is going to be a real treat in a few years. I have one bottle left. I think I will wait ten years to taste it again. I fully expect to be amply rewarded for my wait. These Pritchard Hill Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon take time to age, but they seem to be well worth the time it takes. My old age is going to be filled with good wines worth having kept. Rich and concentrated with flavors of blackberry and cherry. Nice tannins and lingering finish. Too bad this was my last one. (3019 views) | | Tasted by EricBe on 1/18/2008 & rated 93 points: In great shape - wonderful balance of fruit, alcohol, and acid. (3491 views) | | Tasted by EricBe on 4/3/2005 & rated 90 points: Nice flavor, even a bit of the "green olive" that they talk about with Cab Franc; but it complemented the spicy cowboy-rubbed steak very nicely. | Chappellet Producer websiteCabernet Franc Varietal character (Appellation America) | Wines & Vines articleUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Napa ValleySt. Helena |
