Tasted by pyrat40 on 5/29/2022 & rated 89 points: First thing noticed when opening the bottle was a strong vegetal or herbaceous nose. Subsided in the glass. Still red with no apparent browning. Still has a lot of dark fruit on the palate; mellow tannins. Seemed a bit thin. Starting to go downhill so drink up now .. (822 views)
Tasted by caroleandjay on 7/20/2021 & rated 93 points: Clear and deep garnet at this point with significant meniscus.
N is powerful and has a herbaceous funk with smells of the forest, bell pepper. Fruit of raspberry and black currant on both nose and palate. Still well balanced with a long finish. Med+ Complexity.
Just saw the Turley Cellar Guide come out. Thoughts? (1193 views)

Tasted by jrobs7777 on 11/10/2019: Nice brambly berry core. A touch of heat creeps in. Overall this is very good. Drink now or hold for a few more years. (1654 views)

Tasted by Mtnmd1 on 6/10/2018 & rated 91 points: Aging well. Brambly jammy profile mellowing but balanced. A little bit of heat but not anything you’d expect for a 16+% (1655 views)
Tasted by dalipton on 6/3/2018 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly balanced for 16+%. Found this buried under some others - impressed that it held up so well for 09 vintage. Would drink now - not likely to get better. (1367 views)
Tasted by Naplesgolfer on 4/1/2018 & rated 90 points: sweet cherry fruit with a soft acid tartness. pleasant . Drink up (1225 views)
Tasted by Naplesgolfer on 3/31/2018 flawed bottle: flawed (1197 views)
Tasted by Mgonza on 2/3/2018 & rated 91 points: The nose is very layered. Tons of flavors ranging from fruit compote to sandalwood, pastry dough, baking spices and an herbaceousness that just hints at being there. Fantastic nose, but everything was very muted. Would have scored higher with an uplifted nose.

Palate was less interesting. Great balance for being labeled 16.2%. Very concentrated, with tons of fruit being present.

Finish was a little unappealing, as the alcohol came out a bit much.

Overall a great wine. Very fun to drink. Would recommend. (1193 views)
Tasted by deetz on 2/3/2018 & rated 94 points: Off the list at Cibo 7. Floral, raspberry, mushroom, cinnamon, dried meat, olive tapenade, garrigue, cayanne. Gorgeous nose right now. Palate is still fresh and lively with distinctive bramble and darker fruit flavors and very good balance...doesn’t feel like the 16.2% alcohol listed (thank god), especially when drinking at cellar temperature. This still has at least 5 years ahead of it, although I wouldn’t anticipate too much improvement beyond its current stage. No sediment to speak of in this bottle, contrary to other reviews. The restaurant had good climate control for their wine collection, so great provenance may be critical for this wine continuing to show its youthfulness.

Very good wine Zinfandel. Favorite Turley in a long time, possibly ever. Great job! (977 views)
Tasted by yatchisin on 1/7/2018 & rated 88 points: Ueberroth is usually one of my favorite Turley's but this bottle might be a bit past its prime--some sediment, and that richness that usually holds in balance despite the high ABV was turning very port-like. (702 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 12/24/2017 & rated 92 points: In a great place right now. Very rich, great fruit on the front and back. Truly a Christmas treat. (901 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 10/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Splash decanted thru strainer and drank. No detailed notes, but was just excellent. In a good place now. (947 views)
Tasted by Minnesota on 10/3/2017 & rated 78 points: Cough syrup. Undrinkable. Not even worth using as braising wine. (923 views)
Tasted by btock on 9/29/2017 & rated 91 points: A big zin. Tons of juicy fruit, not the intricacy I look for in the Ueberroth but still a fun drink. Bold purple fruit, some heat on the edges. Starting to throw a bit of sediment. Would saw drink soon to take advantage of the fruit. (899 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 7/7/2017 & rated 95 points: First tasted several years ago at the Wine Vault in San Diego; a 3 course dinner paired with 3 Turley Zins. At that time, the Ueberroth was the star. Was able to buy one bottle at the time. Opened last night and it was as magnificent as I remembered. Deep purple in color, not particularly aromatic, but the polished dark cherry and plum flavors with a touch of oak evolved on the palate. Wine continued to improve over the next 45 minutes showing more notes of bramble and spice, until (sadly) it was gone. Was very surprised to see a 16.2% ABV, no sense of heat at this alcohol level. (1182 views)
Tasted by tcosgriff on 3/27/2017 & rated 93 points: Deep purple color with a classic bouquet and flavor of a fine Zinfandel, mixing plum and brambles. Very good nuance, depth, and balance, with a fairly long finish. One of the better Zinfandels that I have recently drunk and showing no signs of age. (1372 views)
Tasted by Craig Allen Panner on 3/25/2017 & rated 92 points: Outstanding! I was uncertain when first opened as it smelled very fruit forward of only cherry. But after decanting for hours, it really started to open up, smooth out, and the hints of pepper and spice came to the fore. (1262 views)
Tasted by cstir on 12/29/2016 & rated 88 points: Uncertain about this wine; hot and alcoholic on opening; improved after an hour but never to a level typical Turley smoothness or flavor. If I were drinking again, I would decant but uncertain if that would help. (1226 views)
Tasted by JOJ on 11/27/2016 & rated 94 points: Smelled awesome on popping the cork, even from feet away. Blackberry and raspberry, with a hint of cocoa, lavendar, and underbrush. On the palate, more blackberry and raspberry, with notes of black pepper and graphite. Super spicy. Still young and vibrant. Great. (1611 views)
Tasted by gwkozar on 11/9/2016: very nice, but need more aeration (2004 Hartford dina's vineyard RRV, Fiore di vigna Primitiva, 2009 Turley Ueberroth, 2011 Bedrock Saiton Ranch, 2012 Stuhlmuller). (922 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 9/23/2016 & rated 88 points: Ueberroth to me often over promises and underdelivers. This was not outside that fence. Berry, pepper and a bit of brambles. Just kind of there and could use more acid to balance the fruit. (1206 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 9/18/2016: PnP at restaurant. Bottle beginning to go bad. No rating. (1176 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 7/10/2016 & rated 92 points: Fantastic. Had it with smoked beef ribs with a cherry BBQ sauce. This paired wonderfully. Nice fruit, pepper with great acidity. (1297 views)

2009 Turley Zinfandel Ueberroth Vineyard

Winemaker: Ehren Jordan

Winemaker's Notes: The 2009 Ueberroth is very much in keeping with the vintage overall and shows rich texture and weight. Given the vineyard site, this wine should be lean and mean; however, the low yielding, ancient vines produce concentrated wines with restraint. The mid-palate is weighty with blue and black fruits, a hint of spice, and garrigue. This is a cellar-worthy wine that will go the distance.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
