Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 86.5 pts. and median of 87 pts. in 18 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by mdkraft99 on 11/13/2020 & rated 86 points: Consistent with other notes - some tropical fruit,, oak, and a little buttery, but definitely lacking crisp acidity that is needed, falls a bit flat and almost tastes "watery" at the end. Wasn't sure if it was the age, but seems other notes from several years ago are similar. (760 views)
Tasted by eluebchow on 7/3/2014 & rated 85 points: Loads of sweet tropical fruits, citrus and an excessive amount of oak; A rich and buttery wine that needs more balancing acidity (2780 views)
Tasted by AlphaL on 6/12/2014 & rated 86 points: It was a little fruit forward with green tree fruit, full of oak with very little butter. it was mostly all oak as reached it's mid length finish. It was not completely balanced and was good, but not great. (2640 views)
Tasted by davewr on 12/8/2013 & rated 87 points: Agree with previous comments. Good middle ground chard. (3074 views)
Tasted by greaterthank on 8/19/2012 & rated 84 points: As mentioned below, neither New nor Old World, and as a cross of the two, it falls disappointingly short. A wine with an identity crisis, it displayed crisp green apple notes, hints of minerality, and more rounded pineapple expression with substantial vanilla end notes. Disjointed and slightly out of balance. For the jump in price to the Miner Wild Yeast, I see a worthwhile jump in quality. (4146 views)
Tasted by krhaugh on 7/6/2012 & rated 88 points: A nice Chardonnay that is neoither crisp (New World) or buttery (Old World). For the price point, acceptable, but not the style I prefer. Melon and pineapple with some toasted oak but not deep enough. A good summer wine. (3516 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/8/2012: 10 months in 40% new french with barrel ferementation as well. 50% malo. Toasty creamy instead of oaky buttery is the idea. Big yet restrained. For the style, very tasty indeed. Wow, am I having a fruit day or what? Not bad at $30. Not bad at all. (2052 views)
Tasted by chuckreece on 4/14/2012 & rated 87 points: I like neither hugely oaky chards nor the ones aged only in stainless. This is a nice middle ground. Stone fruit on the nose, lovely mouthfeel without being overly buttery. (2146 views)
Tasted by 3daywinereview.com on 10/29/2011 & rated 85 points: Hennepin Lake's Annual Tasting (Tons of Napa Cabs) (Minneapolis, MN): Average Chardonnay and over priced. Oak and some more oak along with vanilla and some fruit. Time for a new style here. (4198 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/31/2011 & rated 85 points: Joseph George 71st Anniversary Tasting (Montalvo Arts Center, Saratoga, California): Light golden color; rich, ripe pineapple, oak nose; oak, pineapple, ripe apple palate with low acidity; medium finish (2138 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
