Tasted by Kwiksilvr on 4/8/2022 & rated 92 points: Light gold in the glass. Notable legs.
Faint tropical aromas give way to assertive tropical flavors of citrus, pineapple. Structure and alcohol still apparent. This could probably keep for another 6-8 years but happy to drink now. (742 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 12/28/2020 & rated 91 points: Golden amber yellow; rich, honey, hint of vanilla; powerful and rich, a tiny hint of oxidation (so probably good to drink it now before further ageing), rich sweet aftertaste with a slightly flat finish (1310 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 6/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Similar to the 4/20/20 bottle. (1332 views)
Tasted by BuzzzzOff on 5/31/2020 & rated 93 points: 2009 Kistler Chardonnay Wine Tasting with Coravin. Three different vineyards. All room temperature. Light, translucent, yellow, slightly golden, touch of straw. The legs fairly pronounced making us feel like the audience at a hula dance with those Polynesian, subtle yellow/brown hips gyrating. Luvly nose of Corton-Charlemagne, which reminds us of early mornings jogging along Bangkok Klongs as the earthy, burnt brioche, caramel candy, seafood and leathery aromas greet the bustling crowds. Similar to walking through a department store with luvly Barbie Dolls doling out overwhelming drops of the world’s best and worst perfumes. Smooth, subtle peach, orange, apple nectar. Salacious siren calling us to her lair…to which we answer without trepidation. (1756 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 4/20/2020 & rated 92 points: Golden color. Somewhat exotic aromas of pears, tropical fruit, ginger and minerals. Ripe, fully-integrated fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length. Nicely full and complex on the palate. At very end of its prime drinking period. (1292 views)
Tasted by wine4lux on 12/20/2019 & rated 96 points: What a stunning wine! Rich deep gold in color and the taste mirrors the color- rich, luxurious, and deep. Very smooth with a long consistent finish. Best news is that I still have one bottle left. (1060 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 10/7/2018 & rated 94 points: Similar notes as ten months ago. Still a very impressive Chardonnay drinking very well right now. (1513 views)
Tasted by UpfromtheCellar on 7/7/2018 & rated 91 points: By contrast to the Dumol-Chloe 2010, this Kistler bottling had much less acid and while it was cetainly enjoyable, it came across as "soft" and even a little "flabby". Tropicals that didn't overwhelm for sure but nothing driving it onward so it just sort of sat and lingered on the palate without making the same kind of serious impression.

Very nice to drink but for the 700+ bottles still remaining out there in cellars all I can say is time to drink up. This wine just doesn't have the stuffing to get much better imho. (1734 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 4/20/2018 & rated 91 points: Nice nose. Light to medium golden. Structure still intact. Delicious mid palate of peach, flower, minerals and vanilla. Not quite as focused and integrated as the best kistler but a pretty good drink. (1664 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 4/1/2018 & rated 93 points: Fully mature and delicious. Golden colour, medium to full bodied. Modest nose of flowers and mineral. Fleshy, nicely integrated mid palate that comes in waves of pear, dragonfruit, toasted bread and minerals. Finish is a little lacking but overall impressive. (1651 views)
Tasted by jgreco on 2/10/2018 & rated 87 points: Rich golden color. A wonderful bouquet on the nose including tangerines, apples, melon, and a bit of oak. The fruit flavors continue onto the palate with a punch of acidity. The middle is a bit too mineral for my taste though. A long finish. (1651 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 12/26/2017 & rated 95 points: At eight years old, there's a lot going on in this wine. Tons of fruit, peaches, apples, pears, citrus, and melons along with honey, floral, and hints of minerality. This wine showed nice acidity, full body, and a long finish. Impressive! (1287 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 11/2/2017 & rated 95 points: After about thirty minutes of being open this was really singing. Peach, minerals, flowers. Great concentration with great balance and Body. Lovely, developing complexity in nose and mid palate. (1233 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 6/13/2016 & rated 94 points: Lush, rich wine that is peaking right now, drink in the next 12 months. Apple and pineapple, touches of citrus and ginger. Lovely. (2967 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/20/2016 & rated 91 points: Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 2/19/2016-2/20/2016 (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Orchard fruit throughout, ripe but with the structure to retain balance and energy. Good now. (3323 views)
Tasted by oncocyte on 1/28/2016 & rated 96 points: This is one fine wine. Aroma travelled halfway across the table. (Served at 58-60F) Potently flavorful, with all that good stuff, lemon, stones, lychee and so much more I couldn't verbalize. Mostly it's the intensity, balance and elegance that moved me. Wife looked over and said "This is the best Kistler I've ever had." (2548 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 10/22/2015 & rated 96 points: Mid yellow; quite neutral slightly acidic nose; incredibly intense, exotic fruit, pineapple, full-bodied with good acidity; nice long aftertaste and very rich (3095 views)
Tasted by Mistress of Wine on 7/4/2015: A little too much oak on the nose for us. Too bad as nice underlying minerality. (3084 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 1/19/2015 & rated 94 points: Delicious. (2172 views)
Tasted by Two Winos on 12/7/2014 & rated 91 points: Nice bottle. A little fatter than we usually like. Benefited from being open for about 45 minutes. I probably should have decanted to start with. (1892 views)
Tasted by Dvogt on 9/22/2014 & rated 91 points: Modest fruit, honeysuckle. Oak. (2044 views)
Tasted by WoodieBayArea on 6/4/2014: my note from 9/12 hits the mark, folks liked this a lot but it was bested by 2011 B Moreau Chass Montr "Maltroie", pear side of spectrum for sure with some slight sweetness (this after two hours of air, it was more acidic and tight upon opening so make sure to decant) (2373 views)
Tasted by BernieMSY on 5/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Nice wine. A bit heavy on the oak. Doesn't compare to Peter Michael from same year. (2005 views)
Tasted by agnorger on 1/27/2014 & rated 92 points: Very elegant and well made as one would expect. It has a slight bitterness on the mid palate that requires matching with the right food to resolve. its a big wine so suggest pairing with a richer dish. All good but wish it were better for the price. (2276 views)
Tasted by allfalkedup on 3/23/2013 & rated 93 points: Lovely bottle of wine with a perfect balance of citrus, honeysuckle, apple. Great food wine. Terrific finish (3304 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

Durell Vineyard

Originally planted in 1979 by Ed Durell, this famous vineyard is located in the southwestern foothills of the Sonoma Valley, north of the San Pablo Bay and east of the Petaluma Wind Gap. The site is characterized partly by its Region II climate, where conditions are moderated by the Bay and the Pacific Ocean effects, making it ideal for cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The rocky, volcanic soils at Durell Vineyard create a challenging environment for the vines’ root system, yielding very small grape clusters that have tremendous concentration and power.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
