Tasted by eschuldt on 7/2/2020 & rated 93 points: Holding up great! (1902 views)
Tasted by lmbagley on 12/25/2019 & rated 92 points: Wonderful; mellow fruit, honeysuckle nose, and moderate acidity (1922 views)
Tasted by yaki on 9/15/2018 & rated 91 points: Not decanted. Wonderful bouquet of mature, tropical fruit flavors. The palate brings lemongrass, apple, and kirsch. There's still a core of medium acidity running through the wine, which helps balance the medium-plus finish. Well-made, but definitely best to drink over the next few years. (2359 views)
Tasted by Goldstone on 8/20/2017 & rated 90 points: Three Bordeaux 1985s (Friends' House, Hong Kong): Light straw-gold colour that looks brightly fresh. Nose is light, lifted, fresh-peeled young hazelnuts, canteloupe melon that is not fully ripe and then raw lemon skins on the back end. Palate is immediately gorgeous - fresh, bright hazelnutty and melon acidity followed by greater richer depth of ripe but still light melon. Very rounded and mellow in the mouth with minimal oak. That said, with extended time in the glass it does get headier, oakier and with growing reverberance inside the head on the finish. A lovely wine. 90+ (3689 views)
Tasted by cliffkol on 4/9/2016 flawed bottle: Corked. forgot this was in my cellar. A shame! (4491 views)
Tasted by jre327 on 10/4/2015: Good (2475 views)
Tasted by MIA Wine Snob on 9/27/2015 & rated 84 points: Lots still going on but color darkened quickly. It is past.... (3754 views)
Tasted by mgolub55 on 8/24/2015 & rated 88 points: A bit pale, has lost some luster but still tasty. Pear and green apple. (3317 views)
Tasted by konadog on 8/3/2015 & rated 88 points: seemed a little lean, some pear and apple notes but not giving up a whole lot. maybe a little over the hill and losing fruit? (2546 views)
Tasted by DGR on 12/5/2014 & rated 91 points: Properly stored, still drinking well. No flaws. Melon and a little honey on the palate. Paired beautifully with poached sea bass. (3449 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 6/25/2014 & rated 85 points: Consistent with prior notes, slightly better than last bottle from memory. Palate was green apples, pineapple, melon, oak and mild butter. Little to no secondary flavors.

Average Chardonnay at best. (2925 views)
Tasted by walkerjfw on 5/11/2014 & rated 84 points: First bottle was corked...this one seemed off as well, let it sit for about 30 minutes and it came around. Decent, not great.

Rich yellow/gold color. nose still a bit alcoholic, some oak and citrus under it. Palate was pineapple, melon, oak and mild butter. Still too astringent on the palate.

Prior bottles of this have been good - maybe just hitting a rough patch. My experience with Far Niente has generally been better than this (2608 views)
Tasted by SonnyChiba on 4/15/2014 & rated 87 points: Far Niente Dinner with Larry & Bruce. No detailed notes taken, but thought this was just ok. the nose had me interested, but ovrall a bit dull and lacked the energy that I liked in the 2012. (2601 views)
Tasted by RickyT12 on 4/15/2014 & rated 88 points: Honey yellow color
A bit stringent nose, hint of pickled taste and almost a hint of sulfur on the nose. medium-high acid on the nose. A bit awkward. A little of a bubbly feel on the mouth. Not a big fan of this. A little honey and oak, but just does not come together that well. (3127 views)
Tasted by ragtop on 1/28/2014 & rated 93 points: - Light gold color with fast forming legs. It's balanced with a full body. Fleshy texture with a long finish. (2365 views)
Tasted by bjamesclark on 1/2/2014 & rated 89 points: Aromas of spiced apples and poached pears with lemon zest, vanilla and toasty oak nuances.
On the palate crisp moderate acidity from start to finish. Flavors of lemon, apples, Asian pear, golden tobacco, spice and vanilla. Creamy on the mid-palate. The finish is moderate in intensity and length that has a bite of acid. (1937 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 12/11/2013 & rated 90 points: Opened by Ram at Anvil. Citrus notes with a generous dollop of oak. (1966 views)
Tasted by Dskoorb on 7/13/2013 & rated 92 points: - Yellow gold color with fast forming legs and aromas of lemon, pineapple, melon and strawberry. It's balanced with a medium body. Round texture with a long finish - Popped and decanted for 45 minutes. Nice golden color with a nose that jumps out of the glass. Tropical flavors dominate this wine with a nice expression of oak and butter on the pallet to give the fruit body. Would buy again. (2295 views)
Tasted by Shrages on 5/24/2013 & rated 78 points: Very disappointing. Alcoholic, turpentine nose. Hot, unbalanced. Fruit overwhelmed by alcohol and oak. One of the least enjoyable Chardonnays I've had in months. Really sad at this price point. If it cost $11 I might give it an 84. (2477 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 4/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Notes consistent with 7/15/12. (2478 views)
Tasted by paulst on 4/7/2013 & rated 84 points: Linear; over oaked and boring. (2406 views)
Tasted by cliffkol on 1/29/2013 & rated 92 points: this wine is definitely not on the way down. It has improved since last tasted several months ago. Deeper flavors, more complex and more balance acidity. Strong nose of grapefruit, tropical fruits, mineral and bramble. (Doris: grapefruit, rich, luscious, becoming more creamy, flavorful with time. 94) (2621 views)
Tasted by bradsamuel on 11/3/2012 & rated 93 points: Great, as usual. (2768 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 7/30/2012 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Cork intact. Wine not decanted. Poured into glass. Light yellow color. Coated the glass nicely. The initial smell is tropical with a hint of lemon. On the entry is a full malolactic wine although not a butter bomb. On the front was a nice sharp acidity. This turned to lemon, then creme brulee, then honey. As the wine aired, the mid palate started to show up - mango, peach, kiwi. The finish is very complex, very buttery, full bodied but not pretentious. It complemented a parmesan grilled chicken dish very very well without competing. Someone told me this wine was "on the way out" but considering it didn't show for 30 minutes, I think that's inaccurate. This wine is certainly ready to go now about 30 minutes after you pop the cork (and heck, you could even DECANT this white). But you could also keep it for a few years no doubt. (2657 views)
Tasted by vine20 on 7/15/2012 & rated 92 points: Pale yellow color with a citrus nose. Rich and creamy baked apple and pear with melon, lemon and honey. Moderate acidity and a bit of stone minerality. More impressive as it warms up over 20 minutes. (2772 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
