This is what most of the other wines are potentially heading towards but just in a really lovely spot. Dark cranberry and cracked pepper and everything is very well balanced and the elegance is there but it’s a bit more expressive and the age has softened some edges and just all playing together quite well. Not going anywhere but drinking nicely at the moment. (398 views) | | Tasted by fadincvaros on 10/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Stupendo. Super (481 views) | | Tasted by Robmcl920 on 4/28/2022 & rated 96 points: The '02 Crichet Paje is a magical wine for this vintage that was a treat to taste. The nose was nicely perfumed with dark red cherry fruit, dried red roses, savory herbs and spices, anise, and tar. It is a classic Nebbiolo with dark fruit and roses, yet with an extra layer of savory, cool tones. On the palate, the wine was medium to light in body for a Nebbiolo of this age, and beautifully refined and elegant in terms of texture with minimal perceptible tannin, and an above average level of acidity. I found savory dark red fruit, dried roses, herbs, and spices.
Compared to the '02 Monfortino, the Crichet Paje has some similarities in the expression (leaning savory but with a core of cherry fruit and rose that is classic Nebbiolo), but is a bit of a lighter wine that I found more texturally finessed. Uncorked 17 hours prior to serving into Zalto Burgundy glass (“Fruit” day): Bright pale ruby with purplish hues to the eyes.
Ultra primary fruits on the nose.
Very refine palate though again very primary.
93-94 points.
20 hours upon opening: Remained to be quite primary. Nicer integration. (908 views) | | Tasted by fcxj on 3/27/2019 & rated 94 points: Serious complexity and polish. Floral very slight rubber notes. Won't mistake tannins for anywhere else. (1051 views) | | Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/21/2018 & rated 94 points: The nose was a model of purity and elegance, with a seductive mix of dried roses, fresh strawberry, orange zest, dusty earth, minerals, hints of rosemary, and floral undergrowth. On the palate, I found silky, feminine textures, ethereal comes to mind, with dried red fruits, florals and exotic spices cascading across the senses, leaving a coating of savory minerals and botanicals in their wake. The finish was long and almost spicy, with still-youthful tannins settling in and floral rose, dried strawberries and minerals tones lingering long. Perhaps it will turn into something amazing with a lot of time, but I am not seeing it at this point. (2385 views) |

NebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
