Tasted by GregB57 on 8/26/2016 & rated 89 points: Excellent value at $12. Minerally nose. Dry and lovely. Drink more good Riesling! (2325 views)
Tasted by macaujames on 10/24/2015 & rated 86 points: Straw, lemons, orange peel, minerals and petrol in the aromas. Light to medium bodied palate with nice acidity, freshness and fine structure. Ends mediumish and zesty. Will improve with age. (2887 views)
Tasted by larseman on 11/28/2014 & rated 90 points: Apelsinzest, mandarin, fudge i doften.
Tropisk frukt och grape i munnen, massor med syra, helt torr, fyllig och lång (3355 views)
Tasted by depechemoroder on 7/11/2014 & rated 89 points: What a wonderful transformation this has had in a year. Beautiful nose of lime, lemon, passionfruit, white flowers, and the early whiffs of petrol. Palate is similar with citrus and some more acidic tropical fruit along with green apple and other white fruits, with floral notes on the background. Acidity, fruit, and mouthfeel perfectly in balance and the finish is lingering much longer too. It does seem riesling doesn't shine until a few years, even if it's on the lower end of the price spectrum. (3498 views)
Tasted by Wineio on 2/4/2014 & rated 88 points: Touch of apple fruit. Nice spicy finish. Good acidity. Somewhat simple. (3814 views)
Tasted by familiepatel on 11/9/2013 & rated 90 points: A little nose. some slight petrol. Flat start, sharper ending. Fills mouth. More complex. Apple tones. Big ending of sharpness. V lemony end. Will be great with food (1937 views)
Tasted by Wineio on 11/1/2013 & rated 75 points: No fruit, very simple. A bit of spice and wood, oak? Finishes with the woody flavor. (1074 views)
Tasted by Wineio on 11/1/2013 & rated 80 points: Upped the rating. It is better with food. Still very simple. (1506 views)
Tasted by depechemoroder on 10/20/2013 & rated 86 points: This has improved since I last tasted it. Wonderfully clean citrus nose with a white floral background. Some gravelly minerals on the nose as well. Palate is very fresh, lime, peach, and white stone fruits, lots of minerality. Wonderful acidity. Finish is just a little short for me, but the palate has more depth than before. One of my favourite aperitifs. (904 views)
Tasted by depechemoroder on 8/19/2013 & rated 86 points: Such a good simple aperitif Riesling, also delicious with seafood starters. Clean and mineral-y in that Alsatian style I love so much. Lemon drop, white florals, hints of apple and quince. Good value for money. (900 views)
Tasted by Champagneinhand on 4/16/2013 & rated 86 points: This was so different than Mosel Riesling. Hugels basic food friendly Riesling that had muted, but spiced orchard fruit with some citrus acids that made the mouth water and the saline helped quench the thirst. Such a clean, crisp riesling, I would think this would make an excellent pairing with many sauced foods. We tried it with Indian buttered chicken, which was a mild curry. Made a very nice palate cleanser and left a smile on your face ready for the next bite of food. Good QPR. (1425 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/10/2013: Half bottle. Tart, lean lemon at first. Fleshes out to more peach fruit and typical black tea. Soil finish. Very satisfying little bottle for a mere $22 off a wine list. (1409 views)
Tasted by pernety on 3/4/2013 & rated 80 points: Drink this so many times. Typical Alsace wine. (1064 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/18/2013: Half bottle. Full yellow. Piquant, lower pitched citrus and faint scent of black tea. Medium weight with good density and some glycerine giving texture. Orange fruit then transitions to a more lemony finish with saliva-inducing acidity and a bit of salinity. By my recollection, drier and possessing more cut than the '09. Very good. (1215 views)
Tasted by dssmith on 1/15/2013 & rated 88 points: The wine has the typical character of an Alsatian Riesling. However it does not have the fruit intensity of some of the other wines I have drunk from this region. It is adequate but not great. (949 views)
Tasted by fredmarc on 11/25/2012: 4 stars (1508 views)
Tasted by thor_orsby on 8/17/2012 & rated 89 points: Medium intensity aromas of peach, apple and apricot with hints of petrol; developing. Dry Alsatian style, medium body, medium alcohol (12.5%), high acid, medium intensity flavors of peach, pear, apple and apricot with medium length; nice balance of lush fruit with mouth-watering acidity. High priced but very good quality, can drink now but has potential for aging. (1212 views)
Tasted by Blauweiss on 1/6/2012 & rated 85 points: Citrus-fruit on the nose. Dry with medium body and good acidity. Good fruit with and decent lenght. Good weekday riesling. (1450 views)
Tasted by rikipedia on 10/8/2011 & rated 88 points: Field Trip to Alsace - Hugel (Alsace): Lovely floral aromas of lemon blossom, Gala apple and Alpine meadows. Dry, juicy with vibrant acidity this is light-bodied and slips down a treat. (207 views)

Citation from a comment by John H. Trombley on Hugel wines labeled "Grossi Laüi":

These wines come from lieu-dit(s) located within [a] Grand Cru vineyard(s), but were not labeled with their respective vineyard names (a requirement for Alsace Grand Cru AOC.) As a matter of fact, this seems to have been deliberately avoided, purportedly for reasons given below.

IT MUST BE EMPHASIZED THAT NOT EVERY WINE MADE IN A GRAND CRU VINEYARD IS ENTITLED TO THE AOC ALSACE GRAND CRU BECAUSE THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER REQUIREMENTS, NOT LEAST YIELD AND permitted VARIETIES.

NOTE THAT what is claimed by Robert Parker as an Alsatian-dialect trivalent for the Burgundian 'Grand Cru' or the German 'Grosses Gwächs', that is, Grossi Laüi, seems to have no official standing in the wine law that I could find as of this date. The Hugels are knows to be among a handful of powerful estates who, for various reasons, have strongly resisted participation in the Alsace Grand Cru system, and its efforts at promoting a separate system probably should be seen as self-promotional, in the view of some. In 2017, those resisters were beginning to work with the system, and it is expected that this will influence the labeling identity of subsequent vintages. I expect this may cause some confusion as to wine identities.

In Cellar Tracker, it is strongly suggested that wines not be listed as Grand Cru unless the maker has chosen to make that label claim, and is prepared to defend it to the Appellation authorities. However, exceptions may arise, and will undoubtedly be structured into the CT infomatics.
