Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 17 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Rich S on 5/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Opened as a replacement for a corked bottle, this showed quite nicely on a pop and pour. Dark red berried fruit with really dark cherry flavor, almost cherry liquor, with some vanilla and a bit of toasty oak and some sweet pipe tobacco. Very nice. Similar flavors on the palate with a smooth mouthfeel and finish. Medium acid and sweet tannins. Not usually a fan of straight PV wines but when done right and with some age on it, these can be quite enjoyable. (394 views)
Tasted by Dhotchki on 5/20/2019 & rated 91 points: Well developed. Ready to be consumed. PnP. (472 views)
Tasted by NickHBailey on 5/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Intense and concentrated with the standard Ehler's silkiness. Reminds me of a refined version of the syrup Luxardo cherries come in. Luxardo cherries, ripe sweet blueberries, savory herbs, and an old leather chair - sounds weird but it isn't. Not an everyday wine but a nice change of pace. Very drinkable. Agree with others, I think this needs time to reveal more complexity. (1399 views)
Tasted by catlady on 3/17/2013: Incredible dark cherry with a long finish. Unusual find to have 100% of this varietal. Interesting and enjoyable. Open for at least an hour before drinking. (2158 views)
Tasted by K28226 on 12/12/2012 & rated 90 points: Dark cherry, plum, medicine, a little heat and astringency. Lots of potential. I think folks who know the varietal and flavor profiles will be happy. I have had limited exposure to 100% petit Verdot (2100 views)
Tasted by The Wine Write on 8/29/2012 & rated 90 points: Popped, aerated and drank over 2 nights. Black fruit with a green streak which was intriguing. Think this would improve with more bottle time. (2231 views)
Tasted by Fateful Destiny on 5/17/2012 & rated 91 points: Quite good. Don't have detailed notes, but enjoyable and exceeded expectations. Good concentration and mouthfeel. (2202 views)

Petit Verdot

Varietal character (Appellation America)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
