Community Tasting Notes (average 88.8 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 33 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by GregBates on 3/10/2024: This was very tasty, perhaps my cellar is better at aging, compared to others comments, but this was delicious. Acid, fat mouth feel, a bit buttery. Wonderful… I hope I can find the others that CellarTracker says I have!!! (98 views)
Tasted by AlphaL on 10/2/2021 & rated 86 points: It was probably passed time to drink. I poured it out. Jan thought it was actually back of the palate while I thought it tasted like high viscosity water. (1057 views)
Tasted by M.Batard on 9/8/2019 & rated 90 points: White peach and citrus on a creamy palate. Didn’t find the smokiness or the piney notes that others had. Seems to have aged very nicely. Paired beautifully with lobster, and (coincidentally) with fresh, ripe NJ white peaches. (1477 views)
Tasted by chefdilletante on 10/31/2015: Remarkably different from my last tasting note of '14. At that point, the piney, resinous notes prominent at release were already receding. Now they're gone. Has matured into a really classy Burgundy, with gold hue, nice nuttiness and no premox to be found. Bit of honey emerging. Just a nice middleweight. Not sure if it will continue to age this gracefully but this is sipping nicely, especially for the price. (4107 views)
Tasted by FarmerKeith LA/VA on 11/30/2014 & rated 89 points: As Claire mentioned, this is a little low on the acid we expect from pretty much all white burgundies(and far less than Chablis). I still think it is very nice, surprising oak for the price point. That could also be a lot of lees stirring, masquerading as oak. Nice body, moderate complexity , and moderate finish. Great value. (4761 views)
Tasted by clairenclarence on 11/26/2014 & rated 87 points: not getting enuff acidity here.rather mineral.though it stil has slight sign of oak,but it seems tat the oak show some integration here.my gues, tis bttl is goin downhill. (5025 views)
Tasted by nicefish on 8/23/2014 & rated 88 points: Paired very well with simple roast chicken. (4644 views)
Tasted by anstruletz on 8/5/2014 & rated 90 points: Gold with nice structure and minerality. Should drink well for another 2-3 years. (4478 views)
Tasted by chefdilletante on 2/1/2014: Rounded, not angular, with mouthfeel balanced with some citrus zest. The assertive pine notes prominent in earlier tastings and in DrWine's note below have been subsumed. Not a heavyweight but lively and pleasant at this price point. (2307 views)
Tasted by djdaqm on 1/13/2014 & rated 90 points: Always a delicious wine. This time paired with crab cakes. Good concentration. Floral notes on the nose. Really good QPR. Not an intellectual wine, but one that is solid and delicious. (2200 views)
Tasted by melzar on 12/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Ditto my last bottle. Still holding up well, and delivering the goods. (1990 views)
Tasted by djdaqm on 11/23/2013 & rated 90 points: As remembered, this wine is bright and fresh with lots of acidity. Lemon butter on the nose and tart although slightly coarse on the palate. Good QPR and a great everyday food wine. (2031 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/5/2013 & rated 87 points: Saturday Afternoon at Weygandt (Washington, DC): Nose shows green apple, cinnamon and some honey. That fresh 2010 acid complements the richer guava fruit. Round, with some almond-toast notes, but tangy all the way through. (2321 views)
Tasted by melzar on 9/10/2013 & rated 91 points: White Burgundy at this price point doesn't get much better than this juice. Just the right touch of oak doesn't overpower the chardonnay fruit. Wonderful balance, and complexity usually associated with high end white burgs. This could age, if you can resist drinking it now! (2237 views)
Tasted by melzar on 7/15/2013 & rated 90 points: A step up from most Macons. Can compete with many high end white burgs. Just the right touch of oak adds complexity and lets the chardonnay fruit shine through. Lip smacking acidity and a great finish (2005 views)
Tasted by Sundesertcactus on 7/4/2013 & rated 91 points: Very interesting wine, slight Malo present which I have not tasted much of in my limited white Burg experience. The crisp minerality I expect and love is still very present, as is lemon notes. Really enjoyed the wine and nice QPR. (2423 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 5/17/2013: I am really liking - it treads a nice line between plump, full fruit and allowing the terroir to express itself. Clarified butter, mushrooms, minerals. Peaches, whiteflowers and firm acidity. Nice stuff for £18. (2120 views)
Tasted by StefanAkiko on 3/4/2013 & rated 83 points: London off-line w Pjaines (http://www.tufnellparktavern.com): Nose of peach and tropical fruits. In the mouth it's a velvet, oily, clean wine finishing with oak. Sprightly acids carry the wine from complete boredom to better than good. (2919 views)
Tasted by christyler on 1/16/2013 & rated 90 points: I was quite impressed with this - really exceeded expectations. Very nutty, nice medium weight, and good acidity / great finish. Will pick up a few more half bottles ($12!) and suspect the drinking window here is better than anticipated. (2180 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/5/2013: 2010 White Burgundy from North to South (Beltramo's, Menlo Park): Lemon and wood toast aromatics. Fatter style, subdued, underripe pineapple fruit and lower acidity in the context of the other wines tasted. Woody, resiny finish gives it a slightly gritty, inelegant feel. There is a lot to it for a wine at this level, but the oak is bothersome. (3107 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 10/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Burgundy 2012 Day 4: Visit to Faiveley (Nuits St-Georges, Burgundy): A well-made Mercurey blanc. I like the nose here, with its exuberant expressive notes of green apples and limes touched by a nice minerally lilt. Really decent on the palate too. Creamily textued in a Meursault-like fashion, it showed fresh flavours of green apples and sweet lemons leading into a solid finish lined with more lime and mineral notes and a little flowery hint hovering around the egdes. A bit on the simple side, but very pleasant. (4045 views)
Tasted by dcwino on 9/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Faiveley Wine Dinner at Donna’s (Donna’s Baltimore): Sulfur quickly blows off, showing some malo that doesn’t mask the purity, strong mineral presence, honeydew, a ripe apple slice and a hint of saline. Refreshing palate, a hint of spritz, stony, mouth puckering acidity and long finish. Excellent concentration and balance. Highly recommend for the Burgundy purist, all the elements that you find in a $50 meursault. (4225 views)
Tasted by godx on 7/19/2012 & rated 84 points: France 2012 - Côte d'Or; 7/16/2012-7/21/2012 (Beaune): Tasted at the Domaine. From 375ml. Was surprised to hear that this wine only sees 20% oak (the remaining 80% in stainless steel) as there seemed to be quite a bit of oak and smoky notes on the nose and palate. Either way, this is a simple, ripe and rich wine that’s weighty in the mouth with decent acidity and a medium length finish. Doesn’t have the freshness I would hope for in a 2010. Average. (3640 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/13/2012: Frederick Wildman Burgundy Portfolio Tasting (Hotel Monaco, San Francisco): Simple, ripe, pleasant and easy to drink even now. (3259 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 2/13/2012 & rated 87 points: 2010 Burgundies - Frederick Wildman Portfolio (Hotel Monaco, San Francisco, California): Cask sample - very light yellow color; tart fresh pear, citrus nose; ripe pear, mineral, ripe citrus palate; medium finish 87-89 points (2724 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
