| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.6 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by @sebastienwine on 1/1/2023 & rated 93 points: Aromas are a mix of old leather and stewed plums with blackberry and cloves. Charred oak notes add great complexity Delicious wine drinking nicely now and could cellar 5+ more years. (313 views) | | Tasted by DRK III on 2/17/2019 & rated 88 points: Pretty mediocre, though might have waited too long. One dimensional, thin, and short. Nice nose - kind of old school. But palate leaves a lot to be desired. (1181 views) | | Tasted by wconnolly on 5/27/2017 & rated 86 points: May have waited a bit too long on this. Not much fruit on the palate. Mostly vegetal notes but frankly a bit flat and one dimensional. (1996 views) | | Tasted by linkswinelover6549 on 9/5/2016 & rated 90 points: Delicious. Glad I waited to allow the fruit to integrate. (2292 views) | | Tasted by wconnolly on 12/19/2015 & rated 88 points: This was an interesting comparison side by side with a 1997 Trefethen Reserve. The '09 was full of bright fruit, raspberry, black cherry with a touch of oak on the finish. Tannins were present but not overwhelming. A medium finish. A nice bottle of wine but pricey at $110 from the winery. The '97 while fading was more complex and layered. (2586 views) | | Tasted by monvieux neuf on 3/24/2015 & rated 90 points: Very smooth taste with lighter than expected dark fruit flavors. A little hint of oak and some tannins but a bit smaller finish than I was expecting. Good wine but seems a little pricey. To me, this is very comparable to another California vintner, 2010 "The Paring GS" but there is no similarity in price. I am hoping the next bottle knocks my socks off. (2749 views) | | Tasted by jdesimone4 on 7/23/2014 & rated 92 points: Fruity and complex (2635 views) | | Tasted by Blauweiss on 6/17/2013 & rated 92 points: Young, showing a massive cassis-attack. Oak is evident but in balance with the big fruit. Tannin structure needs time so settle. Let this baby rest a couple of years, than pair it with a couple of nice T-bone steaks and youre in for a treat! (2558 views) | | Tasted by acyso on 4/7/2013 & rated 90 points: Trefethen Tasting (Napa, CA): 74% Hill Spring, 26% Main Ranch. 92% CS, 4% Malbec, 4% PV. Black peppercorn on the nose, but very lithe and light. Some sizeable tannins at the same time. Mineral, and not too fruity or rich. (2843 views) | | Tasted by 82Latour on 3/23/2013 & rated 91 points: Awesome Saturday (Paul's house): Menthol, eucalyptus, blackberry nose; cran palate; mid finish. (2168 views) | | Tasted by JonGray on 1/20/2013 & rated 93 points: smooth - big - berries / licorice. Drank with Pixie (gift from Pix and Lee for Christmas 2012) (1224 views) | | Tasted by gkjrs on 1/20/2013 & rated 91 points: Elegant but a little thinner than I expected. Excellent (1726 views) |

A visit to Trefethen winery estate in Oak Knoll District, Napa Valley - https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2013/05/trefethen-family-napa-valley-estate.htmlCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonReserve The Wine News | Wine Country This Week | Wine Lover's PageUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners) |
