Tasted by TannicBeast on 8/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Medium lemon in color with a gold /copper hue. Med + aromas of ripe apple, white peach, barely ripe pineapple, toasted almond and wet stone. No perceptible oak. Seems much more youthful than 9 years. Dry, yet fruit forward, with a fair amount of RS. Med + acidity and alcohol (14%). Full-bodied, with an intensely captivating palate, smooth round body and a lingering mineral finish. It changes considerably based upon the serving temperature and is quite versatile with food. Great QPR and very age worthy. (956 views)
Tasted by yerrbo on 12/9/2019 & rated 94 points: Smells of honeydew melon, peaches, and grass. Tastes of lemon, apples, cream, pineapple, grapefruit. Nice long finish. (1120 views)
Tasted by dangdad on 3/31/2017 & rated 88 points: Crisp and fresh. More like a Sauv Blanc than a Pinot Gris. Dry with hints of grass. Paired well with fish. (3284 views)
Tasted by christianminer on 11/5/2016 & rated 89 points: Pale gold full-bodied, with ripe smoky tropical fruit flavors and a long nutty finish. (3464 views)
Tasted by CondorKhan on 3/16/2016 & rated 90 points: Honey, melon, some nuttiness in the finish... fat, waxy texture. Very nice with smoked ham with cabbage and corn on the cob. (4261 views)
Tasted by Zap66 on 8/24/2015 & rated 91 points: Very good. Smooth. (4286 views)
Tasted by RajivAyyangar on 5/14/2015 & rated 85 points: Alsace Masterclass (The Progress, SF): Summary:
Varietally correct. Not complicated.
Score: Around 8.5
-------------
Visual:
Pale straw, light concentration.
Nose: Strong washed cheese-rind, maybe muenster. No botrytis, mostly neutral.
Palate: Feels nearly dry [4.5 g RS]. Weighty and nicely-textured, with elevated alcohol [13.5%]. Moderate acid, moderate minus phenolic bitterness. It’s balanced - more bitterness driven. Seems like a classic Pinot Gris.

Laterals:
-Pinot blanc: too extracted and weighty.
-Pinot Grigio: Too heavy alcohol, too aromatic.
-Albarino - not as aromatic as Albarino.
-Riesling: less aromatic than riesling, lower acid, and has phenolic bitterness.
-Smaragd Gruner? perhaps. No white pepper.
-Oregon Pinot Gris - Yes, you could confuse this, especially as this one isn’t that complex.

13.5% alc.
6.09 g/L TA
4.5 g/L RS
Fermented in stainless steel vats with no oak aging.
This is huge production - probably ~50k+ cases per year.

Tasted by Neras on 4/17/2015 & rated 89 points: Has developed nicely with mature notes. Quite enjoyable. (2257 views)
Tasted by Barolo Drunkard on 3/19/2015 & rated 88 points: Almost a nonexistent bouqet. A bit moldy, almost mossy aromas. Maybe a hint of honey. Huh, doesn`t look good. Really closed.
Thank god; on the palate this is still a wine:) And a good one also. Quite viscous and full-bodied. Loads of ripe fruit: mango, melon and just plain grapefruit juice. All covered with honey. Underneath is a decent acidic backbone, that keeps things alive. Quite long honeyd fruit aftertaste, with a hint of spice in the end.
I dunno, I mean this is delicious stuff, I cant`deny that (fruits are delicious:)). But this is also just a bit too straightforward for me. Einfach mittelmäßig… I´m strugling with this, because on the other hand this is a good wine. Actually this is kind of a textbook example of what good wine is supposed to be. But it`s at the same time kind of like a too good student can be; a bit boring and unoriginal.

Tasted by JonnyG on 2/16/2015 & rated 88 points: A bit one dimensional, and dare I say it, uninspiring? Smooth texture, balanced fruit, but nothing special going on. (1293 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 2/5/2015: Honey stone fruit with great mouth feel. (30 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 11/28/2014 & rated 81 points: Quite deep, but still surprisingly youthful, lime-green color. Very odd, unpleasant and dusty nose with aromas of milled malts, sawdust and something mealy, perhaps even a touch of grey rot in the background. The wine feels full-bodied and dry-ish to off-dry on the palate with waxy and unfocused flavors of some honeydew melon, a little bit of apricots, a hint of overripe pear and a touch of alcohol. The wine fels low-to-modest in acidity and thus pretty tired, lacking verve and energy. Finish is more mineral but still a bit flabby and tired with dull flavors of peach, ripe red apples and a little bit of vague spice. The alcohol lends a quite warming touch to the aftertaste.

Although Trimbach's PG Reserve is a wine I normally enjoy very much, this vintage was poor when it was released and it has obviously just developed into a direction even less impressive. Unpleasant, stuffy and lacking energy. Avoid this vintage. (453 views)
Tasted by aajder on 10/8/2014 & rated 87 points: The nose is a bit light, showing honeysuckle, spice and citrus fruits. This is fairly light bodied on the palate, especially for this wine. Seems a bit tight. Good concentration and decent class, but not really giving me the Alsatian Pinot Gris experience. Medium length on the finish. (1361 views)
Tasted by The years of the grape on 8/9/2014 & rated 88 points: Tasted while comparing it with a 2011 Domaine Roland Schmitt Pinot Blanc, to investigate the differences between Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, so I'll post the same review for both wines.

Aromas were similar, but after some time in the glass the peculiar scents of both grapes became clearer. Pinot Blanc was somewhat leaner, clearer on the nose with impressions of lemon, flowers and apple pulp, while Pinot Gris showed more substance and fragrances of apricots and pear with hints of honey and ginger spice.
On the palate I was a bit surprised: as I expected, the richer Pinot Gris showed sweetness on the tip of the tongue, while the Pinot Blanc was drier, but the former had a sharper acidity, while the latter fell a little bit flat. Above average body for the first, average for the second.

And the winner is...? Well I appreciate Trimbach, but I have a personal affection for Pinot Blanc, I like its fresh pulp aromas and flowery scents. If I had to be objective I would say Trimbach Pinot Gris, but personally I consider it a tie. I'll drink both bottles with much pleasure until the last drop :)) (1391 views)
Tasted by JustNathan on 6/4/2014 & rated 89 points: Quite pale lemon, noticeably viscous, with immediate spicy notes on the nose. Steely dry, rich body with spice, acidity and elegant earthiness. Quite long on the finish. Excellent at this level. (1659 views)
Tasted by sjhoffman on 5/16/2014 & rated 89 points: Paired with baked brie with homemade black pepper balsamic strawberry jam. Beautiful!!!! (1485 views)
Tasted by Neras on 3/19/2014 & rated 88 points: Pleasant and drinkable, but with no lasting impression (1385 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 6/22/2013 & rated 83 points: Youthful, pale green and even surprisingly neutral color for a Pinot Gris - this wine is lacking the golden yellow hue I've gotten used to with Pinot Gris Reserve. Sweet, but very restrained nose with surprisingly noticeable streak of alcohol; the intensity from the previous vintages is nowhere to be found. There are rather simple and nondescript aromas of honeydew melon, some spice and a little floral complexity. The wine is fresh, youthful and off-dry on the palate with flavors of ripe, somewhat sweet citrus fruits, peach, some minerality, a little pear and a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel is oily and heavy with rather modest acidity, making the wine come across a bit fat and flabby. The finish is rather short and a bit dull with surprisingly noticeable alcohol warmth and brief flavors of ripe citrus fruits and quite prominent stony minerality.

This vintage is lightyears away from those terrific Pinot Gris Reserve wines I've gotten used to. A very poor vintage, lacking complexity, freshness and oomph and marred by too pronounced alcohol. Probably the wine will develop balance and complexity with more age, but overall the wine performs rather poorly now. Surprisingly restrained, even mute, in its style, lacking the verve and focus Trimbach is renown for. Poor QPR at 16,99€. (459 views)

Pinot Gris

From Pinot Gris Wikipedia entry:
Wines made from the Pinot gris vary greatly and are dependent on the region and wine making style they are from. Alsatian Pinot gris are medium to full bodied wines with a rich, somewhat floral bouquet. They tend to be spicy in comparisons with other Pinot gris. While most Pinot gris are meant to be consumed early, Alsatian Pinot gris can age well. German Pinot gris are more full-bodied with a balance of acidity and slight sweetness. In Oregon the wines are medium bodied with a yellow to copper-pink color and aromas of pear, apple, and/or melon. In California, the Pinot gris are more light bodied with a crisp, refreshing taste with some pepper and arugula notes. The Pinot grigio style of Italy is a light-bodied, often lean wine that is light in color with sometimes spritzy flavors that can be crisp and acidic. Although this wine can be very sweet, it will begin to lose its acidity when it is nearly ripe.

Pinot gris is considered an "early to market wine" that can be bottled and out on the market within 4–12 weeks after fermentation.
