Tasted by prasm on 2/11/2023 flawed bottle: Heavily oxidized. (671 views)
Tasted by Chrisinroch on 3/15/2020: Age has been very good to this wine. The alcohol has receded, the oak is integrated and it’s just knit itself together. Very nice (1476 views)
Tasted by bobdobilina on 1/14/2020 flawed bottle: Heavily oxidized.

Must be some bottle variation here. My one and only bottle so no opportunity to check. (1617 views)
Tasted by cartime on 7/10/2019: Drink now. (1566 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 3/13/2019 & rated 94 points: Wonderful nose with citrus, mineral, and a hint of oak which carries to a delectable palate and finish with refreshing acidity. Drinking beautifully now! (1857 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 2/27/2019 & rated 95 points: The old axiom that there are no great wines, only great bottles was on display here. Always my favorite RM Chard, this was shining last night. Consistent with prior notes, but the showcased a creamy mouthfeel that I can't properly describe - almost like a liquid butter, but not in that typical California buttery popcorn way. Just an amazing showing. (1632 views)
Tasted by meatman on 12/21/2018 flawed bottle: Oxidized. Too bad. (1414 views)
Tasted by bobpsi on 7/31/2018: Found an orphan in my wine fridge Sunday, opened with steamed lobsters. Lemon, almond butter and a slight oxidized note on the nose. The palate shows no sign of the oxidized note and is moderately viscous with lemon curd, ripe stone fruits, and a nutty finish with just enough acidity to balance the richness. (1439 views)
Tasted by Brian Love on 6/18/2018: Always top notch. (1481 views)
Tasted by 1964vintage on 5/28/2018 & rated 93 points: Drinking beautifully right now. Tasty. (1197 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 2/23/2018 & rated 92 points: Open nose with citrus, mineral, and a hint of oak which carries to a delicious palate and finish with refreshing acidity. (1204 views)
Tasted by gutt22 on 9/19/2017: 13.4% alcohol. This has improved since our first bottle in 2013. Now? A medium yellow color, with a somewhat viscous look in the glass that translated to a lush palate presence. Pretty nose of spiced apple, lemon curd, and minerals. In the mouth, this is smooth and quite viscous palate. The fruit smacks you in the face, but it's precise and not too ripe. There's a linear quality to the wine despite the fat palate presence, with a bright pop of acidity that leads to a very tight-knit finish. This is superb and aging well. This is peak for my taste. A-/A (1474 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 8/26/2017 & rated 88 points: Cellar diminishment party - brief note. Courtesy of tlv. Coconut and tropical fruit notes. Banana qualities. Good finish. (1068 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 7/17/2017 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured with grilled tilapia. Nose has a bit of a butter/vanilla aspect to it (moreso butter). Taste is not nearly that way, and has a good deal of mineral to it, but I'd prefer this to have a bit more of a citrus/lemon quality to it. Still has a bit of a richness to it on the palate and then a bit of a lemon on the finish...I'd just like that to come in a bit sooner or be more prominent. I imagine I'd like this bottle more if I drank more of this style and got my palate used to it, as I haven't had many CA chards in awhile. (1505 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 12/26/2016: I got very little but others really seemed to like this one (1642 views)
Tasted by mkmast on 11/14/2016 & rated 91 points: A little more oak than I typically want, but this was really nice. (1611 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 11/9/2016 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour, we drank most of the bottle over about 2 hours. Lemon and oak, also on the lighter side. This showed well for the vintage, it was consistent with the 2010's. A great chardonnay. (1482 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 10/7/2016 & rated 92 points: Crisp lemon, light vanilla and tropical notes of pineapple (1349 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 7/17/2016: Well made CA chard with a mix of lemon, grapefruit, bits of tropical flavors. Acids are a pleasant surprise. The oak is there but it is not overbearing and only really noticeable as temps get up. Near peak, good time to drink. (1468 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 7/5/2016 & rated 93 points: 4th of July Weekend Wines - A nice selection; 7/1/2016-7/5/2016 (Out and about over the weekend): Drank at a friends cottage over looking Lake Erie which I am sure helped improve this wine. Seemed about perfect. Light golden in color. The nose has some grapefruit and vanilla. On the palate, slightly oily texture. Good acidity. Lemons and vanilla. Very tasty. Nice clean finish. Drinking well now. There is some oak showing, but I think if that is an issue, then it was last a few more years to integrate. For me, it comes of as a pastry sort of vanilla and a nice match with the minerals and grapefruit notes. (1908 views)
Tasted by pakabear on 5/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Starting to age a bit, great citrus, cream, butterscotch, and salty blue stone. Great balance, and very smooth. Drink now. (1329 views)
Tasted by ChrisGiggles on 5/14/2016 & rated 95 points: This might be one of my Top Five favorite chards. Phenomenal aromas and spectacular flavors...delicious! (1278 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 4/30/2016 & rated 93 points: This was gorgeous over two days. Full, expressive nose of lemon cream, white fruits, mineral with a kiss of toast. Palate is mid-to-full weight with round, polished fruit and energetic acids. Definitely a meatier, lusher style of Chard but with great balance and depth. (1272 views)
Tasted by Bellissimo on 2/18/2016: Don't drink a lot of CA Chards but liked where this was at. Lanolin, lemon pith, almond, weight is not creamy but not crisp either...somewhere in between. Mark A recently said it reminded him of a white Rhone; I get that too. (1340 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 12/3/2015: This was a crowd favorite. Loads of yellow fruit with a medium streak of oak that does not feel like it belongs and which is a lot less noticeable than a year ago. I think thisnis going places. My friends loved it. (1495 views)

2011 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard

Winery note:

2011 Rivers-Marie Chardonnay B. Thieriot Vineyard Sonoma Coast - 185 cases, 14.2% alcohol, 25% new oak
This once again was the last thing we harvested for the vintage. Given the weather it required more sorting than we had ever done before. We probably culled out 15% of the pick for botrytis concerns. The palate though shows that we couldn't get it all out. There's a honeyed character to the wine that we've tasted in some higher end white Burgundies that we like. It's a nice balance to the 3.2 finished pH the wine possesses. This is the only 2011 that is actually denser than its 2010 version. That wine needs a ton of time still where the '11 seems pretty open knit now. It is citrus fruit focused as always but with a little more brioche and hazelnut than years past. We cut back once again on the new wood component to allow more vineyard expression in this wine.

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
