Tasted by brigcampbell on 2/19/2024: Falltacular 2024 (FMIII in the OC): This is always excellent. This vintage is no different. There’s more pear driving the flavor then remember in previous years. There’s a hint of white peach and a really good chalky note. (2042 views)
Tasted by ziavino on 2/12/2024 & rated 97 points: Seriously good. Notes of Bosc pear and Meyer lemon commingle, with perfectly integrated oak and hints of peach and sea salt weaving in. Acidity and minerality are both on point, and an innate roundness to the body never feels dull or heavy. One of the most harmonious bottles of Chardonnay I've had in a very long time and an absolute pleasure to drink. Considerable length too. More complexity would've had this flirting with perfection.  Tasted by Maphill01 on 2/10/2024: PNP. Ripe tree fruit, pear, apple, lemon. Just a hint of honey. Medium+ body, mouthwatering acidity, this is the first SVD Chardonnay I’ve had from R-M and I really like the increased tension and focused flavors. 13.8% ABV. Definitely a cut above the Sonoma county in quality, but also in price. (1412 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 2/2/2024 & rated 93 points: Red delicious apple, pear, tropical fruit, lemon zest and vanilla bean. Ripe and creamy with a very long, layered finish. Well balanced. Served with fettuccine alfredo. (1860 views)
Tasted by Sonoma-W on 12/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Excellent! More coastal than prior vintages in its taste. (1950 views)
Tasted by rrasmuss on 11/17/2023 & rated 93 points: A very nice, easy to drink wine.

White peach is by far the predominant aroma, with some salinity, seashell, almond and applesauce. There is a fair amount of acid and a little citrus in there as well, but, I just feel like it is missing something.

I can’t put my finger on it.

Good wine, I think there are better whites out there at this price point or less. (1815 views)
Tasted by Franken Berry on 8/23/2023 & rated 95 points: In general, my wife and I avoid napa chardonnay at all costs (and this one is north of $80!), but this wine just about blew our minds and changed our religion, and served as the opener to our tasting at Rivers Marie. Personally, I prefer to drink the french stuff in all things white (with or without bubbles), but this wine has amazing focus, length, texture and suppleness (if I can use that term to describe the mouthfeel). An absolute explosion of fruit flavors that change from pear to apple to orange with an amazing lemony acidity that brings freshness, balance. Just an amazing ride, sip after sip, like a Willy Wonka everlasting gobstopper

This underwent long malolactic fermentation prior to barrel aging in 100% french oak, a third of which is new. Robert Young clone exclusively (2714 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 8/22/2023 & rated 93 points: California 2023; 8/13/2023-8/22/2023: Stone, orchard fruit, pear and honey (2265 views)
Tasted by reiter on 4/2/2023 & rated 94 points: One of my favorite Chardonnay. Great nose! Complex and refreshing mid palate. Oaky and long slightly sweetish finish. (2697 views)
Tasted by Alexander Smith on 2/24/2023 & rated 95 points: Premiere Napa Valley; 2/22/2023-3/25/2023 (Napa, California): First time tasting Rivers-Marie wines, I was impressed by all wines that were poured. The Chardonnays had both energy and tension wrapped around a core of fruit, the Pinot Noirs showed refinement and more Burgundian in style, the Cabernets again nicely refined and focused.

The Chardonnay of the trip! This vineyard is located next to the Occidental and only goes to Littoral, Failla and Rivers-Marie. This is like 1er Cru Chablis in terms of style and I loved it. Notes of white peach, citrus peel, oyster shells, sea salt, fennel and crushed stones. The palate showed great energy, tension and minerality along with a core of white orchard fruit, wet rocks and sea salt. The mid-palate showed depth and concentration yet with a great freshness. The finish was saline textured driven. (3314 views)
Tasted by Geaux Tigers on 2/7/2023: 2023 Napa; 2/5/2023-2/9/2023 (Napa with a connection in Houston): 2021 Theriot- from a non-Chardonnay aficionado who leans towards Chablis this actually pleased my palate. More ‘sophisticated’ on the palate than the Sonoma Coast, I found this quite good, a bit more texture and glycerin feel, more lemon curd, slightly less crisp. Buoyed my decision to buy RM Chardonnay at release for first time ever. (3089 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
