Tasted by amateur62 on 10/15/2018 & rated 91 points: Last and best bottle. Much more mature than two years ago. Decanted just before dinner. Superb nose with black currant, leather and forest floor, on the palate still quite tart, good freshness and concentration, long finish, requires food, fits perfectly to cheese (brebis). Never thought that this might develop so well, wish I had some more bottles left, there is still no hurry, this wine has its best still ahead. Incredible price to quality relation, 91+. (1879 views)
Tasted by Arraksboll on 4/6/2018 & rated 82 points: Djup, stram doft. Rökt köttkorv. Stringent stram smak med levande syra men livlös frukt. Har nog sett bättre dagar. (2215 views)
Tasted by KriLis on 7/30/2016 & rated 89 points: Still very tannic, should hold for many more years in the cellar. Excellent for its price (3850 views)
Tasted by amateur62 on 3/24/2016 & rated 90 points: Bottle 11 from 12, still improving. Very present tannin, some plum and remarkable acidity, needs a lot of air. More the classic Rioja Reserva style than Bordeaux, though the colour would more point to Bordeaux. Very good QPR. (4173 views)
Tasted by TashNYC on 12/15/2015 & rated 90 points: Tasty wine with some good red fruit. But still tannic, too. Best with food. Good QPR for $12.50 (4447 views)
Tasted by MatsRahm on 4/11/2015 & rated 90 points: Excellent maturity! (3543 views)
Tasted by Mickelintott on 10/12/2013 & rated 89 points: Dekanterad i 5 timmar. Time to drink! (3176 views)
Tasted by Antonius on 4/27/2013 & rated 89 points: Mooi op dronk nu. (3379 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 5/11/2012 & rated 88 points: Creamy and still youthful bouquet with lush ripe black berry fruits. On the palate the same fruits, creamy and round tannin with still a good bite and a touch of sweetness. Not extremely complex, but certainly an excellent wine with a future at least until 2015. (4328 views)
(4823 views)
Tasted by ecola on 9/8/2011 & rated 90 points: Drinking great right now. Dark dry berries, minerality, and even a little herbal component. Medium body and full of flavor. Great food wine. (4073 views)
Tasted by Billy Swan on 7/18/2011: Eight years has turned this rough vin rouge into something really nice. The fruit (plum, something close to black currant) is still alive, but the tannins have mellowed, secondary notes of earth, leather and stable are creeping in, acidity is fine and there's an interesting note of cloves. Together with some nice flank steak it's seriously good, but it's also a pleasure afterwards. Maybe not outstanding, but excellent at least. (4097 views)
Tasted by Finare Vinare on 6/24/2011 & rated 88 points: The warmth of 2003 gets more and more apparent with time. This was much better in 2009. (3789 views)
Tasted by wirelesswine on 6/18/2011 & rated 90 points: Amazing value, and a wine I'm really enjoying - probably not for everyone because the tannin seems to be outweighing the fruit, but I like it. The nose is very rich and fruity, but it's drinking fairly austere and would be a great food wine (I popped and vinturi'd after dinner). Finishes with some bitter tannins and berry fruit, I find this to be an honest representation of the region and a great value. (2982 views)
Tasted by ecola on 5/14/2011 & rated 88 points: First drank this over 3 years ago. Let's see how it's doing now. Aromas of dark berries with a smokey background. Very dry on the palate. Minerality and a little black fruit come through. There is a hint of cocoa on the finish. Tannins have calmed down a bit. Drink now because I don't think this will open up any more. Old school old world wine. (3090 views)
Tasted by ecola on 2/3/2011 & rated 89 points: Aromas of ripe raspberries, earthiness and spice. Big flavors of berries earth, and herbs. Huge tannins on the finish. Definetly a food wine, would like to try another one in five years. ($14) (3296 views)
(3974 views)
Tasted by bccdavid on 4/17/2010 & rated 84 points: Nose has dark fruit. A little strong although I decanted it first.
Taste has a little too much oak for me. Long finish especially on the back palate. OK for $12.50 but I'm glad I didn't pay any more. (4080 views)
Tasted by Mats_L on 8/5/2009 & rated 89 points: Deep red hue, with a hint of blue still. almost opaque. Meaty and gamey scent mixed with some blackberries and a bit of mint. Flavour is full, with chewey tannins and long aftertaste. We are drinking it with some cheese after dinner, but it would go better with meat and a creamy or rich sauce or side dishes. Will still evolve for the next 5 years and no feeling of overripeness despite the hot year. A good buy! (4838 views)
Tasted by EaglesWin on 3/19/2009 & rated 86 points: Good solid bottle of wine and representative of the appelation. Just not my cup of tea. Tannic to the n'th. Even after 3 days, it didn't mellow. (5002 views)
Tasted by pgm on 3/11/2009 & rated 89 points: Not a ton of dimension, but this was an excellent wine and a great value. Integrated black fruit and earth on the nose, with dense flavors of blackberry and bitter chocolate in the mouth. (5028 views)
(5458 views)
Tasted by marksharky on 3/2/2008 & rated 88 points: This was a pop and pour through a Vinturi wine aerator. Big and dry, some muted fruits, barnyard and alchahol notes on the nose very closed., I think this could use a few more years. Old world style on the palate very dry and dusty with some muted backround dark berry flavors , I am going to pour another glass and wait a few hours. (5472 views)
Tasted by jahlove on 11/27/2007 & rated 90 points: Big wine. Hugely tannic. Even after decanting the first night, it was still difficult for me to enjoy. I could tell that there was something there but the tannins just completely overwhelmed my palette at first. So I reserved judgement for the second night. Good thing to, because it did open up nicely. Tannins mellowed a bit but still a very firm and powerful wine. The Cab in the blend really seems to assert itself in this wine's profile. The nose smells more like a Cali Cab to me more than a French wine. The wine is full of purple and black berry flavors that really fill out the mid and back end of the wine. A good dose of chocalate and earthiness add complexity. Still just a baby, I can see this aging extremely well. If you must drink now, decant well in advance. (5713 views)

Professional 'Channels'
By Fred Dexheimer, MS
Sommelier Journal, July 2008
(Château Bouscassé Madiran) Alain Brumont, one of the leading growers in the Madiran region of southwest France, is uniquely adept at bringing out the charm and fruit flavor of the massive Tannat variety. This great red-wine value certainly delivers the goods if you are looking for something with a little muscle behind it. The 2003 vintage is bountiful, offering dark-cherry and blackberry notes. Rich and chewy, with a rhythm section of sweet vanillin in the background. Hot Picks

Madiran

Vin de Madiran (l'ESAT de Madiran)

The Madiran appellation is where red wines were born to go with magret and confit de canard. Alain Brumont is a master of this deep, dark-fruited, powerfully grippy style, the tannins melding satisfyingly with the fat of the meat. HT:
