Tasted by rwpalmer on 4/7/2024 & rated 89 points: Agree largely with seeyouintee though I didn't get quite such a rich and varied palate. I wondered whether cab franc might be showing through. It feels like the product of a cooler year. There's lots of sinew and structure, but I wonder whether there is quite enough fruit to bring even a madiran notion of balance with age. Bring out the confit de canard! (583 views)
Tasted by seeyouintee on 4/6/2024 & rated 89 points: Deep purple core, going red-clear at the rim. Smells mostly like Cabernet Sauvignon - Black cherry, clove, light aromas of leather, and a hint of herbs. Palate is a completely different beast - black tea, bay leaf, bell pepper, sage, and a touch of dried cherry. Chewy, mouth-coating tannins, and an herbal, somewhat bitter finish. I like it now, but I can easily see how it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Contrary to previous reviews, I'm pretty sure this will improve for at least a decade. (521 views)
Tasted by Rossodio on 3/1/2024 & rated 89 points: The tannat must have softened up here. This is drinking quite well. Has an almost young mourvedre-like note, softened but still very present tannic structure, and a nice backbone bringing this wine out nicely as a hybrid between Southern France and bordeaux. Very enjoyable especially at the price, though I believe it was not so much a couple of years ago. Drink now + up to 3-4 years, though I am unsure whether it will improve during that span simply due to my inexperience with this type of blend.

I had half.

Tasted by Larsrar on 2/22/2024 & rated 88 points: Medium ruby.
Medium black fruit, liquorice & marcipan in nose & mouth, developing.
Dry, medium acidity, medium(+) tannin, medium alcohol, medium body, medium(+) finish.
Very good, can drink now but potential for short term aging.
Structure not unlike a good Haut-Medôc, although no pencil scrapings in the nose/mouth.
Quite accessable, elegant and balanced, would make me expect a mediocre year.
Tertiary notes only starting to develop, but I would not keep this waiting too long as I don´t find the structure sufficiently robust.
Day 2: Fading - confirming yesterday's conclusion. (889 views)
Tasted by NavyVet6874 on 1/21/2024 & rated 92 points: Absolutely wonderful. Three years in my cellar mellowed what was undoubtedly an extremely bold wine. A blend, 60% Tannat, and 20% each Cabernet and Cab Franc. Even with a chicken dish it was compatible. Bold fruit, but overall soft tannins and light acid. Quite enjoyable. (1156 views)
Tasted by roasted hill on 12/9/2023: Deep garnet. Moderate legs. Dark berry, particularly blueberry, with rustic dark chocolate notes. Has grip but still pretty primary though tannins are resolving. Great QPR. (1362 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 10/30/2023 & rated 92 points: I was wrong. This is very good wine. (1697 views)
Tasted by cono_sur on 9/25/2023 & rated 90 points: This blend of 50% Tannat, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 24% Cabernet Franc has a delicate and shy nose of dark berry, blackberry, and some oak spice aromas. On the dry, full-bodied, crunchy palate it has dark berry, black cherry, blackberry and spice flavours supported by juicy acidity. It has ripe, well-structured tannins, with spicy notes coming to the fore on the mid-palate. Finish is long and structured. Score: 90+ pts (1620 views)
Tasted by chozajab4 on 9/7/2023 & rated 85 points: too sweet for my taste. (1643 views)
Tasted by Dan & Patti on 8/29/2023 & rated 86 points: Drink now (1566 views)
Tasted by wmhjr1 on 8/28/2023 & rated 88 points: Nose: oak, strawberry, black fruit

Palate: strawberry , currant , blackberry , campfire , leather (1249 views)
Tasted by Dozhdbog on 8/19/2023 & rated 92 points: Dusty yet potent notes of lilac, blue & black berry, cherry, and forest on the nose, which carry over to the palate with lucid vigor and extend to a moderate finish of mild tobacco and spice. This vintage is hitting its stride quite nicely with a balanced structure and well developed tannins. As far as my less than ideal cellar temps go, this should do quite well for the next 4 years.  Tasted by stamperb on 7/31/2023 & rated 91 points: 91: Nose: Dark mixed berries and dank earth. Palate: Mildly tart dark cherry, rich black raspberry, and some blackberry, peppery spice without the flavor. Warming tannins that wash over like a viscous wave; good acidity. (1188 views)
Tasted by DBdeParis on 7/6/2023: Finished a 2018 Peyros and switched to this while watching Tour de France in the Pyrenees. This wine is more approachable than the Peyros - tannins rounder and palate seems riper, missing the nice vegetal edge of the Peyros. Great value. Had with roast pork - redder meat would have been better. (1242 views)
Tasted by Rhuby on 6/29/2023 & rated 89 points: Deep red purple with still youthful edges. This drank well over several days. Lots of berry fruit, cherry, and red currant. Medium-bodied without alcoholic heat. The supple tannins and present acidity balance the wine. Good value. (1221 views)
Tasted by JaynPam on 6/19/2023 & rated 88 points: This was a lovely blend. While you could not pick out a specific varietal, the sum of the parts added up well. (1199 views)
Tasted by Daltond333 on 6/4/2023: Deep purple. Plum, black cherry, black raspberry, baking spices, cedar, anise. Dry, high acidity, tannins, and alcohol, full body. (1231 views)
(1081 views)
Tasted by arvidpalmqvist on 2/5/2023: Chocolate, tobacco, tea leaves, dark berries. This bottle was gifted to me, and I gave it about a year of cellaring before popping. I thought this was going to be a boring wine and/or very tannic (due to the Tannat) but this was actually better than expected in every aspect. Not claiming this is a big wine or anything, but works fine as an everyday red. (1562 views)
Tasted by GiorgosD on 11/25/2022 & rated 88 points: sec, fruits rouges. Sucre 1,8g/L (1869 views)
Tasted by rmalloy on 10/15/2022 & rated 88 points: This wine has soft plum and cherry flavors with light spices The tannins are in check for drinking now. It’s too light and boring for my tastes. (2006 views)
Tasted by Ozric on 9/3/2022 & rated 88 points: Nose: Dense, leather, mineral, paper towels, subdued dark fruit.

Palate: Quite dry entry with good acidity and a fresher cherry and raspberry type fruit compared to the nose. A hint of licorice. Tannins are soft but it's a tiny bit hot. (1988 views)
Tasted by Dan & Patti on 8/29/2022 & rated 88 points: Still some fruit, drink soon (2088 views)
Tasted by Dozhdbog on 7/22/2022 & rated 88 points: Plum and cherry aromas with a touch of earthy funk shifting to cacao dusted tobacco and assertive tannins. Could use a longer decant than the 15 minutes I gave it, but still quite enjoyable. (1761 views)
Tasted by Snäppekällan on 6/19/2022 & rated 90 points: Great wine. Drank on itself (1831 views)

Madiran

Vin de Madiran (l'ESAT de Madiran)

The Madiran appellation is where red wines were born to go with magret and confit de canard. Alain Brumont is a master of this deep, dark-fruited, powerfully grippy style, the tannins melding satisfyingly with the fat of the meat. HT:
