Community Tasting Notes (average 93.9 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by liber on 3/16/2024 & rated 94 points: 3rd of 6, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, deeper yellow, hint of pox on nose, but fresh enough on palate, flavours broader than more exciting bottle in December, proper weight and drive of a GC, if pox avoided should regain focus, upside, 10 years. F+ (18). (155 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/16/2023 & rated 96 points: 2nd of 6, decanted 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, flavours as described in last December's note, starting to unfurl and put on proper GC weight, impressive length and persistence, upside yet, 10+ years. VF (18.5). (307 views)
Tasted by liber on 12/2/2022 & rated 95 points: 1st of 6, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level - pale straw, unctuous, youthful; orchard fruit, white peach, citric twist, hint of spearmint (I think), flint, fresh, complex and pure; medium, long, outstanding persistence, more concentrated than initially thought, complex but quite tight and more linear than on nose, no hint of pox, coiled spring energy, in style of excellent Ruchottes with more to it, substantial upside, 15 years. VF (18.5).......worth decanting for a couple of hours! (761 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 7/4/2022 & rated 92 points: The 2011 shows the white peach profile of the 1992 and 1999 beside and there's a bit of mint, but it misses on the depth and resonance of those wines. A bit of Ramonet junior. Hm. (1586 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 6/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Bâtard-Montrachet and Cathiard Malconsorts Dinner with Acker (Brindille - Chicago IL): Alongside the 2010, both opened 15 minutes before serving. Much like the profile of the 201, with floral and spice nicely supporting lots of orchard fruit. Just not as layered, long or complex as the stunning 2010. (1496 views)
Tasted by Mag357 on 4/18/2022: Intense yellow. Aromas of williams pear and lemon burst out of the glass, with the nuttyness of staves, the wood is present but quite subtle and already integrated, on the palate, the wine is complex, with a quiet assurance, ending on a spicy, long and complex finish. (944 views)
Tasted by Bobby Burgundy on 5/21/2021 & rated 94 points: Good not re-bye (1058 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 11/12/2018 & rated 94 points: Very fun to drink this now. Flinty and nutty on the nose with good power and finesse. Good balance between fruit and acidity. Love the minerality and ramonet spearmint. Drinking beautifully. (1997 views)
Tasted by Barry Rothof on 8/27/2017 & rated 94 points: Steak House Terroir (Leiden , NL): Very rich but not dense, with ripe, toasted, nutty fruit and underlying acid tension, very long and powerful. (2338 views)
Tasted by Burgaddict on 8/25/2017: Leiden dinner at Terroir: Nose a bit restricted, later on citrus and the typical mint come through. Taste full of lemon, lemon zest, spice, big acidic backbone which unfolds in your mouth in many different directions in a way I have never experienced before. Continues with a long finish. Superbly fine. Unfortunately there was no time to look at further development of the wine (bottle was emptied quickly), because I think this wine has a lot of potential for that. Superbly fine. (2113 views)
Tasted by kelvchua on 7/16/2017 & rated 95 points: Appearance was clear, pale intensity, lemon colour.
On the nose, clean, intensity pronounced (it was rather muted on the initial pour). Aromas of pineapple, mango, lemon, red apples, light toast, spice, ginger, honeysuckle and white flowers.
On the palate, dry, with flavours of lemon zest, lime, spice, honeysuckle and tropical fruits. Intensity pronounced. Acidity high, body full, long finish. Clearly outstanding quality, rich concentration, refined and elegant.
It took 2 hours to get the wine to open up. Give it a good decant and drink it with patience. It was with much regret that this bottle was downed too quickly. (1884 views)
Tasted by dansamsoe on 3/6/2017: Minty yellow fruit, grand cru quality. Some toasty oak. Delicious. (1801 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 11/6/2016 & rated 94 points: Jero. Excellent, already drinking well. Elegant floral nose. Concentrated and balanced on palate. (1578 views)
Tasted by dansamsoe on 3/7/2016: Great wine. When first poured just a whiff of oak that dissapears quickly. A lot of white fruit, spearmint. A big wine but also in total harmony. Very well balanced on the palate. Everything is in the right place. (1242 views)
Tasted by fcxj on 1/20/2016 & rated 94 points: Ficofi. Excellent, but preferred the 2013 better alongside. Just a bit more structure and balance. (1524 views)
Tasted by Pacalet on 12/21/2015 & rated 93 points: Drank with the 11 Ramonet BBM, different pedigree the BM certainly got more of everything and also slightly more restrained. Slightly more fruit forward than other great vintages but will be excellent for the short to medium term. Will be even better in a few more years. (1430 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 12/16/2015 & rated 95 points: The nose yellow fruit, popcorn, toasted nut, breadcrumb and cream soda. The palate was so intense with a lot of layers and popcorns along with sharp acidity, high minerals and precise yellow and nutty fruit. This will improve with more time. Side by side with ramonet bbm 11, this wine was clearly better. (1779 views)
Tasted by William Kelley on 1/20/2015 & rated 93 points: The 2011 Ramonet Batard is very attractive, opening up in the decanter to offer a classic young Ramonet bouquet of lemon oil, honeyed pear, white flowers and a framing of new oak. This is bright and fresh, with broad and glossy Batard texture, but this ranks as a comparatively open-knit Ramonet Batard, without the depth or complexity of the very best vintages. Nonetheless great fun to drink! (2914 views)
Tasted by dchain on 10/18/2014 & rated 93 points: Beautiful light gold, floral, jasmine, white nectarine. Really fresh, quite light but very well balanced. Wonderful mouthfeel, so energetic and fresh. A real generous treat from Lee and Ava. (1588 views)
Tasted by johannes.c on 6/8/2014 & rated 93 points: Dinner @ Librije: Very lean & pure. Drinking perfect right now, don't think it will make old bones. Not necessarily very complex (due to the year, definitely not the producer) but it impresses with its pure, fresh and very floral nose of white fruits. Definitely a wine that I will seek for my own cellar... (1685 views)
Tasted by Burgaddict on 6/6/2014 & rated 94 points: Leiden visits Librije tasting: Nose at first a bit young and restricted, mint and citrus. Nose opens up later on. Taste rich, lots of extract with great tension, fine acids, very balanced, slight bitterness. Long finish, just lingers on. Will probably get much better in time, however drinks already beautiful now. (2034 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 5/17/2014: Open-knit and generous with some Ramonet mint on the nose. The fruit is ripe and tinged with honeysuckle floral notes. It is rich and broad shouldered with dense fruit and a creamy mouthfeel. It finishes with good mineral cut. (1713 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 3/27/2014 & rated 94 points: Sydney Burgundy Celebration Gala Dinner: Pepper and mint with candied lemon and peach - aromatics are very much open and singing. Delicious palate with superb acidity assisting the rich but precise fruit. Loved it! (2132 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
