Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 28 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ShadowIII on 3/20/2023 & rated 93 points: yellow gold, very forward aromatics, orange zest, lychee, apricots, honey, people really liked this wine, but not readily identifiable as Viognier, but if you have had Lia multiple times before, definitely identifiable (287 views)
Tasted by Bwalter17 on 9/2/2019 & rated 89 points: Rather tart initially, but fruit cake through more as it warmed up and it smoothed out. But never really overcame the tart edge. Decent, but peobably was better 2-3 years ago. (750 views)
Tasted by lvjohn on 7/11/2016 & rated 92 points: Delicious with wonderful mouth feel and integrity. This is the longest held bottle of Lia we've had. It was worth the wait. Initially it tasted of a very pleasant white with hints of pears and a bit of pineapple, bit once it opened there were all sorts of magic in the glass with honey and a rich vanilla leading the way. I would guess there are are more years ahead for properly cellared bottles. (1742 views)
Tasted by jbro on 8/17/2015 & rated 92 points: I am with Tanzer on this wine. Very creditable effort with Viognier. Genuinely Rhone-like, though not as sharp or deep as really fine Rhones. QPR is excellent-quantity is an issue. I wish I had more. (2455 views)
Tasted by jaumealaska on 2/7/2015 & rated 89 points: served too cold initially-my fault; once it warmed up had peach and flowers to the nose, better acidity than many viogniers, and nice round mouth feel. good finish. (2474 views)
Tasted by Bob in NC on 8/24/2014 & rated 91 points: Peach and honey on the nose. Full mouth feel that coats the tongue. Stewed peaches and pears, lemon rind and ground stone on the palate. White grapefruit flavors come out on the finish that lingers nicely. (2561 views)
Tasted by budh on 7/24/2014 & rated 90 points: Color is a deep lemon/medium gold. Bouquet is medium intensity, with pear, peach, very ripe pineapple, floral, petrol/oily/perfume, butter, vanilla. Palate is the same, along with butterscotch, a stoney minerality and some salinity. Full body, medium+ acidity, high (14.3%) alcohol. Medium+ finish with the fruit, perfume and minerality lingering. I'm still a Viognier newbie, but this seems quite nice. The minerality and acidity give it some pizzazz. (2222 views)
Tasted by Amerique on 7/14/2014 & rated 91 points: Citrus fruit, higher than expected acidity, tight, slightly buttery (1578 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 7/12/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous tasting note. (1148 views)
Tasted by TastesGoodToMe on 3/1/2014 & rated 88 points: Blind Tasting at the Lake - South Charlotte Wine Lovers (Bob and Anita's Place on Lake Wylie): Served Blind. I had no idea what varietal this was as I have never had a 100% Viognier. Pale golden luminescent in color. Dry. Crisp and acidic. There was something I can only describe as being a little kerosene-like lurking in the background to me. Near the end was starting to come around with more flavors of butterscotch and caramel. Interesting wine. Not sure if I would put on my list of favorite white wines though. (1915 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 1/5/2014 & rated 92 points: this was delicious. very floral, thick and unctuous in the mouthful, nice balance of acidity with the finish. so good it made the dumol 09 chloe we had afterward taste too monolithic. (1060 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 1/2/2014 & rated 90 points: Pop and pour. In the glass, pale clear gold-white. On the nose, peaches dominate, with a background note of wood. On the palate, a smooth texture, with a blend of peaches, wet stone, and crisp minerality, almost more of a Chablis than a viognier. This would be nice if you wanted something slightly more fruity to go with raw seafood. (944 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 12/15/2013 & rated 91 points: pretty, nice acidity, petrol, great thick mouthful..delicious (971 views)
Tasted by winelover1808 on 11/15/2013 & rated 91 points: this is lovely. its very condrieu like to me. diesel and apricot in the nose. beautiful golden hue. full fruit and great acidity to balance it. first dumol viognier with some mineral notes on the finish. I really like this wine. (1018 views)
Tasted by ettalovesgoodwine on 11/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Seriously underrated-delicious! (837 views)
Tasted by Deb293 on 11/2/2013 & rated 86 points: Very lemony, without the spice I would associate with a Viognier. Rather nondescript and one-dimensional; a disappointment from one of my favorite white wine producers. (816 views)

Viognier

Viogner is wrong wine

This is nonsense.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
