Tasted by no leashes on 4/18/2013 & rated 90 points: Delicious black cherry, berry, anise and sage flavors, nicely balanced and drinking well. (1275 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 8/22/2009 & rated 90 points: BLACK CHERRIES AND A TOUCH OF CHOCOLATE IN THE NOSE WITH BLACK CHERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES IN THE FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (698 views)
Tasted by tmbergmann on 2/3/2007 & rated 87 points: Somewhat surprised by the good state of the wine. Opened and drank immediately. Wine was starting to fade, but showed well. At first nose was faint, but developed over 30 minutes. Some floral notes, cherry more pronounced as wine opened. The power and chewiness that I expect in a first rate merlot was still present. I am sorry that this was the last bottle. My hats off to Fred, Sally, and Andy Schweiger. (1827 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 11/19/2005 & rated 90 points: BLACK CHERRIES, DEEP BERRIES, AND LICORICE IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM LENGTH FINISH. (704 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 10/1/2000: ($40) Sweet fruit nose with a touch of chocolate and cigar box adding interest. Not as concentrated as the Pride 97 Merlot but more complex. Just a hair lighter in body. Very impressive. 175 Cases. Thanks to the saleswoman at Dean and Deluca. (1857 views)

Merlot

Merlot is a dark blue–colored wine grape variety, that is used as both a blending grape and for varietal wines. The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and "fleshiness", combined with its earlier ripening, makes Merlot a popular grape for blending with the sterner, later-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon, which tends to be higher in tannin.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
