Similar note to 2018. A little less malo (or whatever) than before.
My last bottle.
Drink 'em if you got 'erm. (412 views) | | Tasted by vincemcd61 on 7/3/2018 & rated 93 points: Very nice wine. Wonderful aroma. Had with shrimp stacks (925 views) | | Tasted by John Nezlek on 5/26/2018 & rated 87 points: Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.
To me, Chalone makes a very reliable Chardonnay -- not necessarily spectacular, but never not good. This bottle was in the pattern. (1020 views) | | Tasted by TK Mastres on 12/21/2017 & rated 89 points: Honey and caramel on the nose but those notes belie a solid acid backbone that runs though the full palate of this wine. All the better to carry the butterscotch and oak flavors. Yes, this one is a bigger “California” style chard, but for us it’s not over the top and a solid effort that we enjoy. Bit disjointed on the finish, but still much richer in style that one usually finds in this general (Monterey)region. (1006 views) | | Tasted by COWineLover on 12/15/2017 & rated 82 points: Aromatically challenged, no finish, no flavor diversity. Flabby, dull, boring. Just shy of the magical 90. I found this bottle to be a bit more Burgundian that the previous two (last spring). Still a Calif chard, but it reminded a little of a decent w. Burgundy. mpsocal wrote the rest of my TN. (1087 views) | | Tasted by mpsocal on 9/29/2017 & rated 88 points: Typical tasty Cali Chardonnay. Nice acidity with some oak and butter. (1018 views) | | Tasted by COWineLover on 5/28/2017 & rated 87 points: First bottle of a half case, and my first Chalone since the 2008 vintage. Overall this has expected California typicity with buttery flavors along with nuts, a bit of lemon zest, and a modest level of acidity. This wine doesn't have a wow factor, but performs well for the price point. (1109 views) | | Tasted by SMChateau on 5/27/2017 & rated 91 points: Well balanced, oak, mineral, fruit, but not the Cali style where any are overpowering, especially the vanilla/oak. Surprised by a review in 2014 that suggested staying away from this one. One of the more enjoyable CA Chards we've had in a while. Profile evolved while in the glass and when not too cold. (659 views) | | Tasted by kevinws on 5/21/2017 & rated 90 points: Vanilla, minerals citrus biscuit on palate. Nice well rounded medium finish More the buttery fruit forward style but well balanced by the backbone of minerals. Great with Cod. For whatever reasons, slightly better than the last bottle I had a few days ago. Still all- California, but still all-good. (1096 views) | | Tasted by John Nezlek on 3/30/2017 & rated 87 points: Note: I use a scale on which 85 represents a very good wine.
I have been drinking a lot of white wine lately, particularly white Burgundy. So, this bottle screamed California when I drank it -- not a bad thing, but you would not mistake if for a Chardonnay from anywhere else. Rich and full flavored, but with enough acidity to cut the fullness. Smoothed out a bit during the course of the bottle. (1035 views) | | Tasted by mpsocal on 3/22/2017 & rated 89 points: No doubt this is a Cali Chardonnay. It's got a little sweetness and nice acidity with a hint of butter on the finish. I'm very pleased with this wine. (770 views) | | Tasted by BVal on 9/4/2016 & rated 93 points: Color: medium straw yellow. Nose of grapefruit, a touch of lime, honey, marzipan and butterscotch. Wonderful, full-bodied palate of lemon and lime, grapefruit, hazelnut/almond nuttiness and a bit of caramel. Big, complex, smooth; 14.5% Etoh well contained to my mind. Very much in the mold of Chalones of old . . . . I usually gravitate toward the Chalone Pinot Blancs (actually Melon but . . . ) but this really pushes all my white wine 'like' buttons. Adequate acidity so I would think this will go a few years and if it holds a candle to the PB probably more. (1193 views) | | Tasted by RayOB on 5/24/2016 & rated 93 points: The Judgement of Paris (67 Pall Mall): Rich deep complex with a smooth complete palate. (1532 views) | | Tasted by BCharlieG on 2/19/2014 & rated 86 points: It doesn't get much more classic "old school California chardonnay" than this one. Not my style - use of toasted oak and big malo conversion. buttery and sweet mess with too much vanilla, toasted buttered popcorn. over manipulated and not well integrated. I'd stay away from this one (1819 views) |
| Chalone Vineyard Producer websiteChardonnay The Chardonnay GrapeUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
