Tasted by wtianseter on 7/22/2016 & rated 89 points: Nice light golden color. Wine is at/near the its peak. Well balanced and nice mature fruit flavors. A bit bitter if too cold but at a bit higher than normal 65 degrees this wine shows. Medium body and nice light sweetness with no bitter edge and smooth and luscious but light butter.
This shows what saving a well made wine can be with cared cellaring (1324 views)
Tasted by WDSteers on 7/20/2011 & rated 86 points: pleasant but too fruit forward and oak. good aperitif chardonnay. (2839 views)

Tasted by akeenan on 10/12/2009 & rated 85 points: Not bad. Decent oak, which overpowers a little of the fruit - but a pretty good everyday white (1683 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/22/2009: Very true to Chalone grown fruit despite being owned by others. A little touch on the funky side and all in all not that well made. I wish someone who knows what they are doing would work with this fruit. (1726 views)
Tasted by gripNsip on 7/2/2009 & rated 83 points: Popped and poured for my mom. Standard 20$ Cali Chardonnay traits but with out of balance acids and some glaring imperfections in the finish. Not good, drinkable but I will never buy it again. There is better Cali Chardonnays out there for your twenty bones. (1416 views)

This Chardonnay is from the Chalone appellation in the Central Coast of California. This is a subtle fragrant estate grown Chardonnay. A very light sweet front end with a layers of oak and dry acidic finish. I like it this a lot and will make sure I pick up a couple of more bottles. 91, will be nice on a hot summer evening (962 views)
Tasted by mghomula on 1/27/2009: I did not take notes or score as I was leading a guided tasting comparing Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay for some wine newcomers. (1724 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
