A nice, rather characteristic Barbaresco. Good structure, nice fruit with cherry flavors. Tannins are still very much present. (1703 views) | | Tasted by mpdonnel on 2/12/2016 & rated 89 points: Pale red and some bricking. Nose is leather and cherry. Red fruits on the palate with some earthy tones. Somewhat thin on the mid palate. Nice wine. (1651 views) | | Tasted by Jack11211 on 12/24/2014 & rated 88 points: dont get me wrong, I really enjoyed this wine, but its not what I expected.... its very fruity at first, not much of the earthy notes, or tobacco I would have expected from an Oddero Barbaresco, or barbaresco in general. The color in the glass was VERY ruby red in color, no signs on rusty or brown colors to be seen (shame) and was soft on the nose, not a ton there to be honest. Was a very drinkable wine, but again not what I was expecting, or maybe I should have adjusted my expectations. would I but it again? sure, but maybe not at this price point. I am going to try to hold onto a bottle or two and see what it does with time. (2062 views) | | Tasted by Tim Heaton on 4/16/2014: {Visit to Oddero} The nose is very fruity, near explosive, and not something I was expecting, but probably should have given the warmth in the vintage/zone. To its credit, underneath all the ripe fruit there is some interesting complexity. Again, to its credit, there is more structure than either the nose of 'generalized' view of the vintage might suggest is possible. Give this 3-4 more years, by then I think this obstreperous child will have learned some better manners. 14,5% abv.
From magnum; second day juice.

| Oddero Producer websiteNebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
