Tasted by joseph120 on 6/21/2018: Meh. Very drinkable ... because it is not offensive! Restrained mid-palate, lightish for a Syrah, smooth finish, kinda one-note monotonous wine. Did not note any pepper in this as others did, maybe because I opened later than others? I drink very little shiraz, and would pick up a Mollydooker the Boxer before this one in the future.  Tasted by diggydan on 12/28/2017 & rated 90 points: Peppery and black olive nose. Savory and black berry palate. Light and lean body - would be better with a fuller mid-palate. (2243 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 11/19/2017 & rated 89 points: Pepper, dark fruit, anise, meat and tobacco flavor with ample fine tannins. (2293 views)
Tasted by finewinebuff57 on 7/14/2016 & rated 89 points: Young, full, unready. Plenty of ripeness and structure. I think this could turn out to be pretty good given time. (3537 views)
Tasted by jrick on 6/30/2016 & rated 89 points: Very Rhone-like with quite elegant fine tannins and a fruit forward palate with blackberries and pepper. Not that much of meatiness of the bacon or salami type. Perhaps most reminiscent of a good Crozes or a Saint-Jo. Not sure I have enough experience to make that judgement but at least something from France over something from California. Could probably keep on being good and even becoming more balanced and drinkable in the future. (3466 views)
Tasted by CWilliam on 4/10/2016 & rated 84 points: Disappointing.

Decanted for 1 hours and paired with grilled salmon steaks. Wine completely overpowered the food & very grapey/simple.

Maybe this wine will improve with time but I did not get a chance to try on night 2. Lost my notes but would not re-buy. Very big / flabby for Syrah. (2578 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/26/2016: Lean style, works for me in the Pinots maybe not as convienced here. (2607 views)
Tasted by bin905 on 2/24/2016 & rated 89 points: Rose, pepper, dried herb scent. Lean, currant and mineral flavor and ample fine tannins. (2439 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 2/17/2016: Black fruit, like fruit that has been made into a jam yet the wine is not jammy. And then grippy on the palate, restrictive, needing some time. All shist soils, cool climate, high elevation. (1636 views)
Tasted by smphelps on 2/10/2016 & rated 88 points: Round and juicy. Maroon with purple. Spicy aromas show pepper, plum, black raspberry and some excess alcohol. Mouth filling but not overly big particularly for syrah. Medium long. Likes food. (1463 views)
Tasted by Omar Khayyam on 12/3/2015: Same as previous note. We had this with a leg of lamb and it was even Steven with the yang Chave le rouvre 2012 (but the opposite in terms of style, this being more forward and sweet and oaky), yet did not beat the AA Badenhorst red blend 2012. (1707 views)
Tasted by LCHammer on 11/16/2015 & rated 87 points: Thin for my taste. Started ok but went nowhere. This syrah isn't to my taste profile but I'm still interested in trying their high end stuff since I hear so many good things about the winery. Any suggestions? (1450 views)
Tasted by Vince_chip on 9/27/2015 & rated 90 points: Bon vin dans l'ensemble.

Tasted by Lavan79 on 9/13/2015 & rated 88 points: cherries, cola & herbs on the nose
palate is medium, a bit earthy & with refreshing acidity
new world syrah with southern France elements (1590 views)
Tasted by denisontb on 9/13/2015 & rated 89 points: very nice Syrah - smooth, fairly long finish, medium complexity. Very enjoyable. (1584 views)
Tasted by Omar Khayyam on 9/12/2015: Sortimentsprovning Johan Lidby Vinhandel; 9/10/2015-9/12/2015 (at their office.): Ok, this mystery wine which I now have tasted several times and have yet to make up my mind about. Clearly, there's dark sweet fruit, but also very good freshness, I feel more of the oak this time. It's very good, and has surprising balance for being copain's entry level Syrah, but clearly it is more forward than I remembered from the first time I tried this. Maybe put it to rest for another couple of years and consume within 2017-2020? (2357 views)
Tasted by yofog on 8/22/2015: I could probably be fooled into thinking this was a warm vintage Crozes-Hermitage, with that solidity and that distinct black pepper. (1524 views)
Tasted by denisontb on 8/5/2015 & rated 88 points: JONAHPE described it perfectly in the June 12th review. Very enjoyable, medium bodied & juicy. Very enjoyable. (1283 views)
Tasted by JPH104 on 8/5/2015: Solid bottle, as always. Restrained dark fruit. Soft feel. Drinking well. (1427 views)
Tasted by JohanPe on 6/12/2015 & rated 90 points: Dark berries, liquorice, vanilla, cola, bacon. Juicy and drinkable, soft acidity and medium long aftertaste. Not a big wine but very enjoyable and perfect to grilled meat. Lightly textured Syrah, for more serious expression with more aging potential look for the Les Voisins or the single vineyard bottlings, this is for unpretentious drinking the coming years. (1714 views)
Tasted by bu11itt on 6/3/2015 & rated 91 points: Nose: Darker fruit with (very) subtle hints of cola and some spice / earth / meat on the backend.

Palate: Light and lively. Smooth with a wonderful fresh red (cherry) fruit character. Very accessible, the acidity is delicate and slightly soft (but still with a decent bite) with fine, silky tannins.

Finish: Slightly astringent with a much stronger meat/herb character. There is still some fruit on the end that adds a nice pop to the finish.

Thoughts: Damn, the QPR here is outstanding! It's got a new world, "easily enjoyable by all" style that is neither hot, jammy or a fruit bomb, but dips its little toe in the old world waters. Superbly easy to drink, I can't recommend this enough. (1915 views)
Tasted by missionpk on 5/14/2015: Pretty much what I expect from the Tous Ensemble lineup (though it sometimes overdelivers). A workhorse. Good. Easy drinking. Light. Enjoyable. Some hint of curiosity about aging potential. Solid. (1561 views)
Tasted by mmh on 5/3/2015 & rated 90 points: A bit austere, but very good with black pepper, meat and flowers. Dry, restrained, serious, quite light and balanced on the palate. Good tannins and good acidity. Blackberries and black pepper on the palate. This is discreet and powerful at the same time. I liked it a lot! Drinking very well right now, I doubt it will improve much. (1581 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 4/29/2015: A touch juicier, more "southern Rhone" in style of Syrah. (1739 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 3/3/2015 & rated 90 points: Blackberries, licorice, and dark berries on the nose. High tannins with medium+ acidity. Young, but very nice wine with medium finish. (1637 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
