Tasted by PMJak11 on 8/19/2023 & rated 96 points: 1hr+ decant. Very dark red color. Dark cherries and subtle baking spice on the nose. Classic Napa sweetness on the palate and super deep wine. Medium plus finish. Really enjoyed this! (467 views)
Tasted by PMJak11 on 3/19/2022 & rated 96 points: 1hr+ decant. Lovely dark red color. This is like Candy. A mix of Amarone and Napa Cab. Cherries and blackberries with a creaminess to it in an appealing way. Very deep. Medium plus finish. Give lots of air as it’s still young. Probably not that most enticing QPR, but enjoyed it. (932 views)
Tasted by msuwine on 9/22/2021 & rated 93 points: This bright and layered Cabernet is drinking fine right now, with a red-fruit driven precision that is somewhat rare for the generous 2012 vintage. Dark purple in color; full in body; aromas of blackberry, black cherry, graphite, and burnt toast. Flavors of boysenberry, spice cake, dried leather, and thyme, with a lifted finish with crunchy tannins.

This is more tight and (truth be told) tart than many 2012s, but it is tasty all the same. Made by Tony Biagi in his first vintage at Hourglass, after taking over for Bob Foley. 14.8% alcohol. I'd give this a few more years, since it might gain fullness with time. 93+ at the moment. (2429 views)
Tasted by picassosfist on 4/15/2020: Yum (1574 views)
Tasted by sigmapi66848 on 6/15/2019 & rated 91 points: Showing well now but can easily sit another 5+ years. (1485 views)
Tasted by Rick 4 Wine on 1/5/2019 & rated 92 points: Nice wine. Drinking well here. I am losing interest in the Hourglass style, but if that’s what you’re looking for, hen this wine delivers (1810 views)
Tasted by Siebs Cellar on 12/25/2018 & rated 93 points: Almost yummy. Fruit was good and lively. Structure was good to very good. Much better than my most recent tasting of this wine. (1390 views)
Tasted by Siebs Cellar on 11/23/2018 & rated 89 points: Consistent with my prior post on this wine. (1438 views)
Tasted by Siebs Cellar on 7/31/2018 & rated 89 points: While smooth, the flavor profile was flat and lacked vibrancy and structure. Also, there was little detectable finish. (1183 views)
Tasted by kkoshkin on 3/10/2018 & rated 96 points: Decanted for two hours or so (not enough time); have been drinking it slowly over the next 2+ hours, with a glass or so left to go.

Deep purple color (but not inky) almost to the edge. Nose of graphite, blackberry, and some kind of spice--maybe five-spice. Black fruit dominant on the palate with a long (30 seconds +) finish. Grippy tannins.

This is excellent now but will be even better for many years to come. (1421 views)
Tasted by Millennial Drinkers on 4/18/2015 & rated 93 points: 30th Addy Bassin's California Barrel Tasting (The Mandarin Oriental Hotel): 93+

Smells like more alcohol than the blueline cabernet, straight cabernet (3625 views)
Tasted by austinbeeman- austinbeeman.com on 2/2/2015 & rated 95 points: Smooth and complex. The classic Napa Cabernet story. This is chocolate cherry with a bloody meaty red fruit character with even more milk chocolate. Very culty. Lush and classic. Probably will improve with a couple years, but very few will let it get there.

Tasted by awinestory on 11/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Very dense, powerful wine with black cherry notes, rhubarb, and spice. Some bright notes of acidity and chocolate from oak. Suggest at least 2 more years in bottle to bring it to best. (2640 views)
Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 11/12/2014 & rated 94 points: Hourglass (My Place - Washington, DC): Nose shows a deep core of black and red currants and plums, some fruit skins and jam as well. Granite, cocoa powder, milk chocolate, some sweet oregano, green olive and pipe tobacco, so complex and lovely stuff on the nose and it opens up a ton with air. Deep and complex with fine-grained but sturdy tannins and medium+ acid. Flavors of black cherries and black currants with notes of red fruits mixed in, it’s zesty and juicy but showing lots of depth. More graphite and pencil shavings here, along with granite and river rocks. I also get some dark roast coffee, cedar, hints of dark chocolate and root beer. Deep, complex but finishes clean and long. All Cabernet aged 22 months in new French oak. Takes a while to fully express itself, so decant now or cellar for a handful of years. (2804 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
