Tasted by Domr1855 on 5/4/2024 & rated 95 points: Shimmering golden color
Exuberant nose of white fruits, mango, pineapple, apricot, vanilla, habanero pepper, touches of ginger
Bright, powerful palate with an enveloping fatty side while maintaining impressive acidity. A great fresh, powerful and structured Sauterne with lots of fat.

(602 views)
Tasted by Pete Moss on 4/29/2024 & rated 94 points: PnP'd the first half. The wine was good from the get go but really came to life after a few hours of air allowing it to open out and express itself. Sweet, luscious and long. Pineapple, apricot, orange marmalade peel & honey - just delicious.
The second half of the bottle sat in the fridge for a week with the cork put back in. It was still vibrant and full of life and dare I say it was even better.. This hits all the right notes for me. I was singing in the rain. (806 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 2/21/2024 & rated 95 points: Porzana (Porzana, Mpls): Light medium gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes-Yes!. Wonderful; gorgeous texture, bright, pineapple, Mandarin orange, really tangy, apricot, very tart, young and vibrant - Yes! This was really showing well. In that sweet spot of early drinking now at 10 years. (1759 views)
Tasted by redz on 11/4/2023 & rated 92 points: Good, not great. consistent with last yrs tasting (2267 views)
Tasted by JimHow on 9/23/2023 & rated 95 points: Still throwing out bottles from last weekend and that raucous group from Florida and Teyxxasss.
I had ordered six bottles of 2014 Coutet after we tasted it at the estate during our visit in 2015.
It must have been a barrel sample, I'm guessing?
I remember we had a very pleasant visit there, the people were very nice.
In any event, this was the first occasion to uncork one, with the lobsters on Friday night.
It was one of my favorite Sauternes experiences in some time. Or I guess this is Barsac.
The wine was still youthful, fresh and pure, adolescent, a gorgeous rich golden color.
The fruit was mouth-filling with apricots and peaches, but it was the fresh acidity that stood out for me.
Just absolutely lovely with the apple tart dessert cooked up by Jan.
Mmmmm.
95+ points.

Tasted by kampa on 7/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Dark golden colour. High sweetness with taste of apricots, pineapple, caramel and pleasant smokiness. Balanced with fine acidity. (2577 views)
Tasted by RoelD on 7/19/2023 & rated 93 points: A very good sweetie with a beautiful golden color and quite a lot of botrytis, honey, pineapple and ginger in smell and taste. The sweetness is well kept in check by bracing acidity. It is a pity that these wonderful sweet wines are no longer broadly appreciated as a result of the slimness obsession and the sermons of the health ayatollahs. (3143 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 4/20/2023 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured at a restaurant. Drinking well at the moment. (3013 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 4/7/2023 & rated 94 points: with a wine like this, apricot and honey are a given...and a spine of acidity to keep things lively. What this wine also brings are notes of pineapple and marzipan, seamlessly integrated. Very nice finish to the evening. (2644 views)
Tasted by ChristopherB on 12/29/2022 & rated 91 points: Brief note - wine I brought to Bouaye Christmas party served with foie gras goose and duck with kampot pepper.

This was really good. Fine, sweet without being cloying, and a good acidity to keep everything in balance. Pineapple, citrus, apricot type aromas dominate. This was appreciated for its finesse and complexity. That being said, to me, this is behind the 1997 and at best equivalent to the 2005, though less spicy than both of those. This is ready to go and likely good for another 15 years, though so good today, no point in not taking advantage of it. 91 or so. (3099 views)
Tasted by Mike G on 7/2/2022 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine, drinking well right now though early in its window; lively bouquet of white flowers and roasted pineapple; supple mouthfeel with tropical fruits and more pineapple; bright acidity ensures it is not too cloyingly sweet. Paired very well with Roquefort. (3784 views)
Tasted by fussyeater on 4/7/2022 & rated 94 points: Golden yellow with an absolutley gorgeous nose showing orange pith, cantaloupe melons. It came over as quite full bodied, with plenty of mid palate weight yet freshness in spades whilst acidity not overdone and so well balanced. Young and with a great future ahead, yet even now really captivating and memorable. (4320 views)
Tasted by redz on 3/17/2022 & rated 93 points: nicely balanced sauternes. (3723 views)
Tasted by bucktooth22 on 6/22/2021 & rated 95 points: Yellow, weak legs, sweet aroma. Very sweet, light, acidic (watery), Korean pear, tangerine flavors. Apple cider finish. (5118 views)
Tasted by HWG99 on 4/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Nice one. (4468 views)
Tasted by ipp on 3/12/2021 & rated 93 points: thick and sweet, but great acidity brings into balance. VERY age worthy. (4215 views)

Tasted by PMJak11 on 2/11/2021 & rated 94 points: Half bottle. Lovely! Thick and concentrated flavors of peach, marmalade, and melons. Glad I have another full size one a home. (4150 views)
Tasted by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy on 11/30/2020 & rated 91 points: Palate was fried after drinking several bottles. Still de-lish and accompanied the pumpkin pie well. (3688 views)
Tasted by rocknroller on 10/8/2020 & rated 93 points: Truffles and Such with Barolo & Barbaresco (David's Place, Mpls): Don;t know it if was that dang fruit tart of Candie's or what, but this puppy was singing tonight. reminds me of how good these are young. Peach, tangerine, honey, full bodied, great acid and cut, citrus - excellent. (4271 views)
Tasted by Tannatastic on 6/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Still young, with concentrated honey sweetness.

Lovely candied ginger botrytis, with a whisper of saffron coming through over time (I'm hoping this becomes more pronounced over the years, as I love this aspect of Coutet). Slight citrus/lemon peel edge and great acidic cut.

Only getting better from here! (4041 views)
Tasted by marcus_francois on 6/12/2020: This paired so brilliantly with a fried pork belly. I am no sauternes expert, but I really liked the ‘17 coutet at UGC. So when I saw this ‘14 at a decent price I pulled the trigger to follow up. In comparison the ‘14 is much denser, more intense; the fruit is slightly darker. At first I was getting intense candied mandarin flavors but with air (~1 hr in bottle), the denseness fleshed out, and it became more apricot-driven. Hints of almonds, vanilla towards the end of the palate. What I love about Coutet is the freshness. Not cloying but inviting. I drank easily half of the bottle myself. At times the finish seemed a little disjointed (sometimes tasted a little alcohol hotness) but usually it was nicely laced with dark minerals. I imagine this will be stunning in time but still good now.

Second day it became much more expansive on the palate, not as delineated and layered. Still candied apricots but also banana custard. The minerality has died down a bit but it is still there. Still fresh. Great QPR. (3902 views)
Tasted by WineScoundrel on 3/14/2020: Coronavirus lockdown TN #2: Overripe apricots drizzled with grapeseed oil with a drop or 2 of moonshine. Right up my alley. Should be fandunktic in 5 years. Drink now for aforementioned TNs or hold for 5 yrs for perfection. (4221 views)
Tasted by jmcmchi on 1/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Light, luscious (3659 views)
Tasted by Jchen01854 on 12/28/2019 & rated 93 points: Can't resist the temptation to try again. It may not have the complexity of a mature Sauternes, but the balance and refreshing syrup taste certainly worth it. Good that it's not super sweet as well. (4337 views)

Château Coutet

Producer website - Read more about Chateau Coutet

A prestigious 1er Cru Classé estate, Château Coutet is the oldest and largest property in Barsac. The estate has been owned by the Baly family since 1977. The name ‘Coutet’ is derived from the Gascon’s word for knife and the estate’s wines are renowned for their fresh ‘cutting’ acidity and crisp lively palate. Château Coutet has 35 hectares of vineyards planted to Sémillon (75%), Sauvignon Blanc (23%) and Muscadelle (2%). In their youth the wines show beguiling aromas of citrus, tropical fruits, white flowers, honey and ginger, revealing more candied fruit, gingerbread notes with age. The wine is matured in oak barriques for 18 months.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
