Fruit is starting to soften a bit. Med acid. Drink now. (1110 views) | | Tasted by James Kim on 1/18/2020 & rated 88 points: Wine Tasting Group - Napa and Sonoma - Jan 18, 2020 (Classic Wine Storage, Dallas, TX): Aromas of cassis, currants, herbs, and a hint of earth. Flavors on the palate reflects the aromas without any over-ripeness of the fruit. Good acids but a hot finish. Full bodied. Varietally correct - instantly recognizable as cabernet sauvignon from first sniff and taste. Enjoyable but lacks distinctiveness. 14.6% abv. (1344 views) | | Tasted by Joel Suskin on 7/6/2019 & rated 90 points: thumbs up (1351 views) | | Tasted by damaw6 on 8/25/2017 & rated 88 points: This is a very enjoyable Cab. I know the 2014 is the "star" performer since I have had that (and have a few in the cellar). However, the 2013 is an very good Cabernet with that classic Alexander Valley tartness. I like the blend of black and red fruits with a nice long finish. If you can find this for $20 or less, grab it! (2392 views) | | Tasted by Sagarrette on 8/4/2017 & rated 78 points: 2017 full and good (2187 views) | | Tasted by bigowl on 8/30/2016: Bottle corked (2925 views) | | Tasted by Christine Havens on 6/1/2016 & rated 88 points: Classic Louis Martini, the 2013 Alexander Valley Cabernet is rife with steeped blackberries, plums, and black fruit in general. I've lingered over this glass trying to tease out which ones. A top note of cedar and dried thyme re-emerges on the back palate along with firm tannins and medium + acidity. As with all Louis Martini wines, they have the stuffing to last, and are well-priced for what they deliver. I haven't have a chance to age any of these, because I have have no cellar. If I did, well... Sample (2731 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 5/28/2016 flawed bottle: Unfortunately, this wine was shipped during a heat wave, so it was definitely damaged, but I tasted just to check. Muted, harsh but low energy, weak but sharp. Sucks because this is generally a solid wine for the money. (2355 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 2/13/2016 & rated 87 points: Similar notes to 10/28/2015. A reliably tasty, juicy, dark-fruited wine with some fun secondary elements. The whole family were fans. (1615 views) | | Tasted by tklock16 on 11/28/2015 & rated 90 points: Medium bodied, black currant, cherry and spice. Smooth. Would buy again. (1661 views) | | Tasted by Lefty71362 on 11/15/2015 & rated 68 points: Flat, no taste that stays with you (959 views) | | Tasted by isaacjamesbaker on 10/28/2015 & rated 88 points: A Day at Louis Martini (Napa, CA): Medium purple color. The liveliest aromas of the trio, with juicy black cherries, blackberries, some cedar and cherry wood, cola, loam and eucalyptus. Fleshy palate with dusty tannins, a velvety textyre. The black cherry and blueberry fruit is laced with notes of rocks, gravel, sweet pipe tobacco and spiced coffee. Well-structured and could benefit from two or three years, but it’s very enjoyable now. Includes 11% Merlot. | Louis M. Martini Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sonoma CountyMendocino CountyAlexander Valley Alexander Valley Winegrowers Association | Wikipedia
