Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by mrkoors on 12/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Peach and yellow apple, rich feel, herbs and minerals on the finish with delicate acidity. (1000 views)
Tasted by rjmp96 on 4/19/2020 & rated 90 points: Very nicely textured wine with notes of honeycomb, apple blossom, nectarine, melon and smoky butterscotch. Developed nicely, with a rich nose but balanced palate and a lot of savory tones to it. Good dry extract and grip on the finish. A bit rich but holding up well. Roussanne and Marsanne from mostly granitic soils. 1,000 cases made. (1065 views)
Tasted by Snoman on 4/8/2020 & rated 90 points: Drinking just a bit over the top at age 7, but the caramel-infused age of the Roussanne is interesting and complex. Would love to try this with a creme broulee pairing. (1092 views)
Tasted by Barry G on 5/26/2019 & rated 90 points: Creamy slightly honey almost toffee nose. Perfumed.

Softand juicy though quite a lot of full on textured fruit pithiness. Green edged even with a bit of acidity showi g.

Palate is quite juicy, orange with herbs and a spicy finish. Then lots of apple, pear and maybe melon. There is a bit of of tannic grip that adds really character and saves the wine from being flabby.

Not a great vintage but this is pretty bloody good. (1404 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 2/2/2019 & rated 92 points: Such stunning wine for the price. Quite viscous, massive fruit lushness and acidity. I suspect this will even better in a couple/few more years when the elements harmonise more. (436 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 11/16/2018 & rated 91 points: Absolutely gorgeous now. Maybe it has more life left in it, but I see no reason to wait. (1545 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 10/7/2018 & rated 91 points: I tasted from a bottle that had been opened and vaccuvined around a fortnight ago. It was still fresh and delicious. Amazing! This seems to have many years to go. (882 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 6/27/2018 & rated 92 points: We loved this. It is viscous and rich, full of fruit and complexity with enough acid to balance the richness. Not unlike a smaragd gruner. This bottle showed some development but seemed to have several years of life ahead. (452 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/28/2018 & rated 89 points: Rich but not blowsey. Delicious. Even a little finesse despite the weight. Well integrated musk/citrus/honeysuckle/wax notes. (947 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 4/28/2018 & rated 87 points: Deep golden yellow, looks and tastes older than it is. Heavy on the palate with ripe stone fruit, and very waxy. Decant for an hour--comes into better balance with time. Not a sipping wine, but will show well if paired well--a rosette of rich lox, for instance, nested in soft greens, or a French onion soup with rich cheese raft. (969 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 3/21/2018 & rated 85 points: Dinner with Jean Louis Chave (Heirloom cafe): Aromatic, waxy, lanolin, white fruit; palate is full bodied, waxy, limited fruit on the nose, dry, lacking acidic balance, medium-plus alcohol; short finish. Needs more lift. 85 (1374 views)
Tasted by alanr on 3/21/2018 & rated 87 points: Dinner with Jean-Louis Chave (Heirloom Cafe, San Francisco): Nice fruit, some typical waxy/nutty character, has a streak of sweetness I don't particularly care for. (1594 views)
Tasted by megropolis on 6/23/2017: A lot of good components that just not in a perfect balance. It makes me sad , cause it could be really great wine if acidity was in balance, but it is not. Waxy , mineral and creamy both on the nose and palate, I miss acidic uplift. (1134 views)
Tasted by Elycohn on 11/9/2016 & rated 89 points: Pale gold with some green hue. Almond and honey on the nose. Textured, both chewy and creamy, leading to a lingering bitter finish. (1128 views)
Tasted by drdan8 on 8/27/2016 & rated 90 points: Opened and let sit for one half hour in a chill sleeve. Served at about 55 degrees. The wine poured a golden - greenish hue to a stemless wine glass. Swirling coaxed nice aromas of pear, sweet honey, citrus oil, and ginger. Medium on the palate with nice but muted flavors of lemon, pear skin, and white cherry. Medium close with a nice finishing grip. Paired with pear / walnut salad and mussels in a white wine sauce at Oliver a Bistro. A more refined profile rather than big and bold.Tasty..... (1151 views)
Tasted by FransS on 8/12/2016 & rated 90 points: Serious wine, dry, but not too, firm body, good balance, good bitterness. (1124 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/11/2016 & rated 91 points: Golden colour yet vivacious on the nose. Waxy, nectarine and orange blossom. Rich yet refreshing palate. I thought Id ordered the St Joseph Celeste (a lovely wine in 2012) though I'm really happy with this. (1225 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 3/15/2016: Richard's St Joseph and Crozes Offline (RSJ Restaurant, Southwark): A touch closed, creamy, rich stone fruit, orangey notes, quite weighty, reasonable acidity, good length finish. OK **1/2 (1702 views)
Tasted by MarkR on 9/6/2015: Obviously young, and doesn't seem quite as approachable as the 2011 at the same age. This is probably getting more serious and I think has more sulphur. Very rich, concentrated and that slightly oily texture that you get with white rhone. I'm sure this will get better, and probably will leave for another year before approaching again. Good value. Northern Rhône

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###
"The first red wines already tasted in the Northern Rhône promise a beautiful vintage, with a quality close to the 2015 or even the 2009 vintage" - NEWRHÔNE MILLESIMES
