| Community Tasting Notes (average 90.8 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 8 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by nigelb on 7/27/2022 & rated 91 points: Has matured beautifully but still needs decanting a number of hours early (326 views) | | Tasted by nigelb on 8/2/2021 & rated 89 points: Tannins still rather tough. you sense fruit but it is densely packed underneath. Will it age further? only one bottle left so try it in 2023 and see. (525 views) | | Tasted by DFBW on 2/12/2020 & rated 91 points: Delicious wine. Suffered a little as we drank a 2010 Brunello Riserva before it that was so delicious that most wines would suffer in comparison but this wine is still holding up despite it's age and has plenty of black fruit left. My last one. (836 views) | | Tasted by nigelb on 8/16/2019 & rated 90 points: definitely a food wine. Without food it dispays great fruit on initial impact, veering shortly to savoury and tannic. With food it somehow keeps the fruit character alive. doing better than the 2007. (861 views) | | Tasted by DFBW on 8/7/2017 & rated 93 points: Excellent this. Three hour decant to let the age soften out and amazing dark cherry nose with a beautiful fruit driven taste and a finish that just kept on going. Worth the wait - one more of these but no hurry... (1391 views) | | Tasted by nigelb on 7/7/2016 & rated 90 points: Distinctly aged character in sight (brick red, begi.to brown), nose (beyond fruit into tea and savoury) and flavour (ripe fruit there but in background, fronted by earthy meaty tones). Soft fine tannins in background. Fresh acidity. Long, finish. Try again late 2016/early 2017. (1273 views) | | Tasted by DFBW on 3/11/2016 & rated 92 points: Lovely aroma and ruby colour after an hour of decanting. Great fruit structure, lovely depth and finish. (1127 views) |
| Castello di Ama Producer website Location on Google Map
Castello di Ama’s 65.38 hectares of specialised vineyards, officially enrolled in the Chianti Classico Register, are located at elevations between 390 and 530 metres in calcareous-clay, pebble-rich soils. Part of the vineyards were planted between 1974 and 1978, at an average density of 3,000 vines per hectare, while newer plantings at a density of 5,300 vines per hectare, starting in 1996 and continuing to the present date, replace the outdated vineyards. The vines are vertically trained, to the open lyre pruned to the Guyot system, and to spurred cordon. The varieties, grafted onto rootstock 420, are 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.
Sangiovese BlendSangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytChianti Consorzio Vino Chianti | Chianti (wikipedia) |
