Tasted by nywine68 on 10/25/2016 & rated 95 points: 1978 California with John Gilman (Craft): Lots of saturated fruit. Intense and smokey. (2873 views)
Tasted by prof b on 3/31/2015 & rated 92 points: The cork was stained on all sides all the way up but was removed without trouble. I decanted this one largely to remove a significant amount of sediment. The wine has improved both in aroma and on the palate throughout the evening, including this final glass now four hours after the initial decant. This ruby colored wine with minimal signs of bricking still emits a lovely fragrance of cassis, blackberries, and plums along with typical aged cabernet elements. The palate is equally interesting and consists of similar components. If the finish were longer, this would be a truly outstanding bottle of wine. It is still lovely for what it is though.  Tasted by AllRed on 3/1/2015 & rated 88 points: Perfumed florals and black currants. Balanced. Integrated. Red currant, dust and worn leather. (2674 views)
Tasted by jdabrowski1027 on 11/23/2014: drinking really nice right now, this bottle must have had gentle storage. (3435 views)
Tasted by mplsbruin on 12/30/2012 & rated 81 points: Fruit is gone, bouquet initially un-remarkable started to open up a bit as evening progressed. But never really improved on the palate. From my cellar originally; gift to Sandy for 30 B-Day. (4170 views)
Tasted by prof b on 8/24/2012 & rated 93 points: Immediately upon opening, this wine gave off sandy earth, dry tobacco and hints of black raspberry. After about thirty minutes, the wine started singing - hot tar came to the palate followed by the tobacco and an almost peppery, moderate finish. By sixty minutes, the wine was falling apart though, glad we had pretty much finished it off by then. (2949 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 5/19/2011: I thought this a little less fresh than a bottle a couple years ago, with a little ashtray on finish, but still a nice bottle. (2919 views)
Tasted by KC Bloodlines on 10/22/2010: Drank this on July 16th. Delicious. Everyone was blown away by the freshness of this wine. Thanks to Phil. (4323 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 11/8/2009: very bdx nose but CA on the palate (3005 views)
Tasted by granny smith on 12/31/2008: Nose was almost empty - very gone (a hint of bug spray, depending on which glass we had).

Taste was watery. Definitely long dead. An adventure with sad, but not surprising results. (4663 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 6/13/2008 & rated 88 points: Aged CA Cabs, Armory: Color goes back to med. drk purple-black; low aromas--some sweet blk frt in there; mth is med., some grainy t’s, not quite the a’s as the Jordan, some prune, nice, simple, rather coarse wine--still alive and kicking, but lacks refinement. Fun wine. My guess is the alc. stayed w/it and gave it slite sweet impression in mth. (1265 views)
Tasted by MicklethePickle on 6/5/1991 & rated 89 points: With the gang at London Wine Bar, including Murph, Kathyrn and David. (David contributed this wine.) rich, ruby robe. Excellent. Good nose. Rich fruit. Fine fruit. Rich, good. Excellent wine. 5-11-16-7: 89/100. (1812 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
