Community Tasting Notes (average 92.4 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Mortgage92 on 6/19/2023 & rated 93 points: Asking myself "what would it take to move the score of this wine up?" Answer: A little more fruit forward (still very good - see previous notes), a little more mellow with a slightly longer finish. No, this is a very nice wine that I enjoy drinking (getting near the bottom of my supply), so will wait another 2 years, at least, for another bottle. (329 views)
Tasted by empierce on 1/1/2023: From magnum - soft and smooth - very nice. Compared favorably to a 2010 Burnellol with sugo of rigatoni and turkey meatballs. (406 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 9/9/2022 & rated 93 points: Had as a pop and pour. The first sips were Jolly Rancher cherry! Then it mellowed out to a smooth collection of black and red fruits. This remains very smooth and easy drinking, with soft tannins. (446 views)
Tasted by Coachron13 on 3/19/2022 & rated 93 points: This is in a great place. Smooth, lush mouthfeel, excellent balance. (552 views)
Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 12/12/2021 & rated 92 points: Comprised entirely of Cabernet Franc that saw lots of new French oak during élevage, this wine has understandably required a few years to sort itself out. Vinturi-decanted and consumed over three hours, it unfurls a beautiful aromatic profile of black currants, dark plums, roasted herbs, licorice, allspice and dill. Full-bodied and impressively fresh, it delivers flavors in line with the aromas and throws no heat from its 14.8% alcohol when served at 60-65°F. At this stage in the wine's evolution, the tannins (although still quite plentiful) have softened and the oak has assimilated, making the dense mid-palate and lengthy finish fairly smooth in texture. Early in its drinking window, this is a terrific red that has the structure to age gracefully. Decantation for aeration is advisable at this point, allowing a couple of hours in decanter if possible. Drink now-2038. (864 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 10/8/2021 & rated 92 points: Ready to drink...finally! Dark colors, heavy black fruit aromas, slightly elevated acidity with a strong body. Yes, I enjoyed this wine and will drink some more of my bottles! (441 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 6/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Sorry, I am just a little higher in my score for this wine. Drinking fine now, but still has 5 more years, if not a little more. (481 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 6/26/2020 & rated 94 points: Sublime. Just a smooth soft easy drinking wine. While I like big reds that are intense and blow me away, this was a nice relaxing red wine that didn’t overpower the salmon I paired it with. (733 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 12/14/2018 & rated 90 points: With lamb chops. Yummy wine and consistent with previous note. Great fruit and balance. Decent length and very elegant. I really should stay away 3 or 4 years from my last bottle. (972 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 9/14/2018 & rated 93 points: Not much to add from my previous note. (956 views)
Tasted by Mortgage92 on 4/28/2018 & rated 93 points: Very, very nice! Good now, better in another year (1039 views)
Tasted by MichielV on 3/4/2018: At 540 MH with Jenny & Rudy. Power outage on MH. After dinner wine. This is a wait wine or make sure you dont open this until 2020. It is big (inelegant) on its own, prob a lot better with food. lamb?

Yummy, very good! (936 views)
Tasted by sonodoc on 11/19/2017 & rated 93 points: Very nice - smooth, muted dark red fruits, mocha, with soft tannins. (968 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
