Tasted by rustyRudy on 2/25/2022 & rated 91 points: Nice depth of color, pencil lead herbs and tea on the nose. Crisp, clean, balanced, moderate depth and pretty finish. (1075 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 8/18/2020: One day one this was the prettiest of the set. On day two unfortunately its not going strong and has rather fallen apart. So probably time to drink up! (1723 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/1/2020: Not corked. (1728 views)
Tasted by Lyubomir Lefterov on 4/1/2020 & rated 91 points: Well, I did enjoy this one very much. From a vintage someone described as a total wash out, here we have a little gem. Crisp and focused, medium to light bodied, flowers and cherries, mouthwatering, with that Burgundy elegance to round thing up. Enjoyed over 2 days, slightly better on day 1.
It just proves the quality producer can be recognised in off vintages ;) (1394 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 11/27/2019 & rated 91 points: Good, solid, medium intensity of red fruits, hint of leather, savory and balanced with crisp acidity. Did well with ravioli. (1890 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 9/13/2019 & rated 91 points: Nice depth, combination or fruit, tobacco, leather and acidity. Excellent with the ravioli (1607 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 7/17/2019 & rated 90 points: Needed 30 minutes for the sulfur to blow off. Decent Chianti, moderate intensity of the nose and palate. (1449 views)
Tasted by TannicBeast on 7/3/2019 & rated 90 points: This is the winery's entry-level Chianti Classico, made with 96% Sangiovese, 4% Merlot from younger vines. Medium to medium (+) ruby with a garnet rim. The nose is clean, medium (+) in intensity, with aromas of tart red cherries, cranberries, red flowers, dried herbs, balsamic and earth. The nose is developing, with just a hint of oak spice from approximately one year of aging in second use barrels. The palate is very dry, consistent with the nose, with medium (+) acidity, medium, polished tannins and medium alcohol (12.5%). This is a very well-balanced, medium bodied wine, which is developing very nicely and is very food-friendly. It is fully in its optimal drinking window, but has several years of development left. (1062 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/19/2019: Finally! Two not corked bottles in a row.

Fresh, light on the mid, shows the vintage. Drink or hold. (1260 views)
Tasted by F_&_M on 4/27/2019 & rated 88 points: Lovely, soft and enjoyable. Great value. Certainly not complicated but always hits the spot. (928 views)
Tasted by F_&_M on 11/6/2018 & rated 87 points: It's ok. Not super interesting, but fine everyday wine. (1289 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 9/22/2018: It's come around and in really nice ship-shape right now. Delicious. Will go longer. I don't really get the sense of '14. Meaning it's not light or anything. (1330 views)
Tasted by Doc90 on 9/19/2018 & rated 90 points: The nose is brimming with dark chocolate-covered cherries and camphor. Cherry-driven fruit with mouth-watering acidity. This is bright and open. Paired with homemade fettucine alfredo. (1103 views)
Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 7/14/2018: Just opened. Not much depth. Maybe sour cherry. To bad I went long? (1452 views)
Tasted by Joe Kane on 7/14/2018: classic style, softer vintage than '13, floral,/dried stems, cherry, savory. (1299 views)
Tasted by Axelpeter on 3/24/2018 & rated 87 points: Strenger, säurebetonter Sangiovese, zum Essen o.K. (G-)..... (1419 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 3/5/2018 & rated 91 points: Dark red with purple tinges. Candy apple and spice nose. In addition to the spiced fruit, tart cherry, cinnamon, medium body and intensity with a short tart red apple finish. Drank with a eggplant parmigiana with goat cheese. Good pairing. (1627 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 11/4/2017: Tomato, potpourri, floral. Raspberry. Good stuff. (2014 views)
Tasted by OmiyaDrinker on 10/28/2017 & rated 90 points: A good buy. Complimented the pizza well but drank after dinner also and went down nicely. Classic Chianti ref fruits and bright acidity with some nice chocolate and coffee complexity. (1741 views)
Tasted by DorisES on 8/20/2017 & rated 98 points: Fruit forward. Very nice mouth feel. (2070 views)
Tasted by paul canet on 7/25/2017 & rated 87 points: Ok sans plus. Pas vraiment dans ma palette, un peu trop acide, petits fruits en bouche. Pas mon style. (2109 views)
 Tasted by JerM on 7/22/2017: JM's wset2; 7/15/2017-7/22/2017 (wine-company): medium-deep ruby-purple. flabby sappy nose, ashy black.
chewy stewed fruit, ashy, hot, flabby, sappy.

Tasted by rustyRudy on 7/20/2017 & rated 92 points: This continued to drink well even after 48 hours of being stoppered. Similar tasting note otherwise to PNP note, slightly more licorice and tobacco from the additional air exposure. Need to find more. (1557 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 7/16/2017 & rated 91 points: Very nicely done Chianti Classico with good fruit, some nice tobacco and cedar character all offered at a nice price. (1582 views)
Tasted by Yagil on 6/2/2017 & rated 87 points: dark translucent red-purple-brown
pleasant fresh red fruits (cherries) nose with earthy & leather notes
fresh juicy, firm tannins, good balance, lean structure, basic complexity, enjoyable finish & aftertaste, good daily wine for food (1431 views)

Castello di Ama

Producer website
Location on Google Map

Castello di Ama’s 65.38 hectares of specialised vineyards, officially enrolled in the Chianti Classico Register, are located at elevations between 390 and 530 metres in calcareous-clay, pebble-rich soils.
Part of the vineyards were planted between 1974 and 1978, at an average density of 3,000 vines per hectare, while newer plantings at a density of 5,300 vines per hectare, starting in 1996 and continuing to the present date, replace the outdated vineyards.
The vines are vertically trained, to the open lyre pruned to the Guyot system, and to spurred cordon.
The varieties, grafted onto rootstock 420, are 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
