Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 34 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by dagij on 1/6/2024 & rated 90 points: Still quite young color, only hints of amber at the rim. Bordeaux-like nose dominated by blackcurrant, but also with tones of cherries. On top there is spicy tones of black pepper, and fine notes of wood and warm earth. Full bodied attack, quite dry tannins on the mid palate, making the wine dry and a bit "hostile". The dryness mellows somewhat on the finish, a finish that is very fresh and almost citrusy (!). Cherry and black pepper tones emerge on the fresh aftertaste. Good length. This is a bit unbalanced, with somewhat too high acidity relative to the fruit. Still, it is a wonderful wine with hearty food. We had it with grilled lambchops, and it was delicious. (576 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 6/30/2023 & rated 93 points: Pronounced nose intensity with notes of vanilla, black fruits, spics, black currant. Still youthful. Full bodied and medium+ finish. Medium+ acidity and medium+ tannin. Tannin is not harsh. Did not decant. Will improve with ageing. (1072 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 5/24/2023 & rated 92 points: Red fruit and herbal elements to the nose. Delightful but I would not have spotted the varieties in the mix. Some power but not at all heavy. Long. Fine. Will keep. (1090 views)
Tasted by Montesquieu on 5/13/2023 & rated 91 points: Lighter and more on the red berry (raspberry) side than other vintages that I recall drinking. Tight out of the bottle. I suspect another 5-10 years would present its best. (1133 views)
Tasted by Larslatour on 12/3/2022 & rated 93 points: Great balanced wine (1458 views)
Tasted by rawdealbuffy on 6/30/2022: Not even close to being ready. Super super tight after about 12 hours of slow ox. Super concentrated, loads of black pepper, cassis, and thyme. Black raspberry and stewed cherry. Moderate acidity. A bit austere at the moment. Needs more time. (1649 views)
Tasted by Nojomoschwa on 2/21/2022 & rated 94 points: I had been hanging on to this bottle for a while and was excited to try as it's my first experience with this fabled estate. It did not disappoint, and gave all that lovely Rhône funk alongside some beautifully ripe red fruits. Lovely purity of expression and balance overall, and a wine that will only continue to improve with age. (1779 views)
Tasted by rwpalmer on 11/15/2021 & rated 93 points: One the most unique and enjoyable bottles that I have encountered in a while. As other people stated, the colour is not especially dark or bright. The nose has primary raspberry elements, but strong herbal (not herbacious) ones as well. Nothing on the nose to indicate the cepage. This is light and long and seems to float across the palate. There is some sweetness on the finish. Others have found this to be rather firm or austere, but I found it comparatively soft. It continued to show increasing interest across two nights. (1856 views)
Tasted by dagij on 11/1/2021 & rated 89 points: Deep ruby color with an opaque, almost black core. You know it already from the start: this is just too young. A bit muted nose (served directly without airing), but underneath lurks an almost inky tone with lots of dark forest berries (blueberries and blackberries). Not much complexity, and a dry, almost woody tone. Full bodied, "hard" and tannic attack on the palate, fine fruit, but the whole package is just too closed and tight. Dry tannins close the finish. First in the aftertaste there is some hints of what is to come: a steely/inky tone, some black pepper and lots of sweet black forest berries. This will be terrific in 5-10 years time, but now it is just a bit unwelcoming. (1905 views)
Tasted by vinkeger on 6/18/2021 & rated 92 points: Luftet i en time. Aromatisk åpen, men tett. Oliven, solbær, jern, varm murstein. Overraskende kjølig vin. Tett og fyldig i munn. Solrik sommer med krisp syre som balanserer. God vekt, men ingen unødvendig tyngde. Småkornete tanniner som fester seg godt i finish. Gi den 5-10 år til. (1786 views)
Tasted by Renevin on 2/25/2021 & rated 93 points: Très beau nez expressif et évolutif. Au départ tabac , réglisse, puis floral, médicament. En bouche, bonne présence tanniques, mais sans rudesse. Corsé et ample. Devrait profiter encore de quelques années pour se développer. (1967 views)
Tasted by dagij on 2/7/2021 & rated 90 points: An extremely compact wine at this moment. Almost black color. Nice nose dominated by blackcurrant with hints of thyme and warm earth. Still a bit closed. Full bodied, very fresh attack, compact in the mouth, almost chewy. Long and fresh aftertaste with lots of fruit, but also quite hard tannins. Drunk with friend and good food, so tasting note not very serious, but this is a somewhat less than what I experienced last time I tasted this wine just some months ago. Lay down for at least five years. (1717 views)
Tasted by dagij on 1/2/2021 & rated 91 points: This is probably much too young, but what a wine. Deep ruby colour, almost black at the core. Complex nose dominated by black cherries and warm earth at first. After a while in carafe and glass, provencal notes evolve, and it becomes a bit more sweet (prunes) and spicy (thyme, pepper). Full bodied, high acidity in the first attack, an acidity that follows through the whole tasting curve. Lots of sweet fruit on the mid palate, but the fruit is a bit overshadowed by the acidity in the finish and aftertaste. A bit monolithic at the moment, but the sweet fruit struggling its way through the tannins and acidity gives high promises for a wine to open in 2026 or so. Still one of the best red wines to come from the south of France if you disregard the best Bandols. (1643 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 10/14/2020 & rated 92 points: Classic and appealing aromas with a nice fruit profile of red concentrated berries, dark fruit edges, earth, leather and light spices. Medium to medium + full-bodied wine with forward-looking, yet fresh and appealing mouthfeel. Nice juicy raspberry fruit, fresh sour fruit peel and salts. Very nice acidity and tannin structure. Excellent wine! 92 points. (2328 views)
Tasted by Cote d'Or on 8/22/2020: Tasted over 3 hrs
-dark red purple no bricking
-low key cassis black pepper plum
-med acidity, med weight med concentration tightly knit low key dark fruit black pepper, med tannins
-interesting that the cab and syrah components are both noticeable on the nose, fairly closed down though not particularly dense, curious to see what this does in 10 years (1782 views)
Tasted by Larslatour on 6/27/2020 & rated 92 points: A favorit wine, price/quality. Look forward to get 2016. (1707 views)
Tasted by Larslatour on 4/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Love this wine, itts getting better and better, rich and balansed. (1939 views)
Tasted by JHSP on 2/9/2020 & rated 91 points: Still a bit tight on the tanins however as usual beautiful - medium body multi faceteted - amazing herbal / dark fruit nose! Drinking happiness now and should improve over the next 5-8 years (1945 views)
Tasted by TexasBob on 1/29/2020 & rated 92 points: Dull medium garnet. Soft wild strawberries and a Little spice on the nose. Soft with raspberries and very tasty tannins. Really delicious. (1903 views)
Tasted by R Z on 4/18/2019 & rated 94 points: High-end Provencal blend of 50/50 Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, this has fine length, lighter body, and real elegance. alc. 13%. Definitely built to age, but delicious for the present and as a portent of things to come. (2522 views)
Tasted by SMHalps on 3/6/2019 & rated 89 points: Opened, but not decanted, for about 45 minutes before pouring this with my wine group, in a restaurant. High quality wine glasses. Medium+ length finish. A few of the group had it as their favorite, but for me, it was my least favorite of the 4 reds we had. It is just too young, at this point, for my tastes. (2366 views)
Tasted by MrOctoberfest on 12/14/2017: Tasted the individual components from vats at the Domaine this summer. The Cabernet was solid with good structure and excellent in it's own right, but the Syrah was, for lack of a better word, dreamy. That I was drinking it in the cellar of Trevallon certainly added to the experience, but this barrel sample was the best young Syrah I've ever had. The tannins were silky, the aromas were perfumed and spicy, and I couldn't believe that Syrah from this far south could have the elegance of a wine from the Cote de Nuits. I'm not sure what it will taste like once it is assembled, but the raw materials are fantastic. (3478 views)

Up until 1993 the Trevallon Rouge was Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence, Les Baux. However, starting in 1994 this was 'declassified' when the AOC Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence was revised (in 1993) and the maximum amount of Cabernet Sauvignon was reduced to a measly 20% (it was to be complemented with Grenache). Eloï Dürrbach did not want to give in and decided to market his wines under the Vin de Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône.
