Tasted by ERU on 5/14/2024 & rated 93 points: Decanted 11 hours. Needed all of them. The tannins are still rather assertive, but the bottle did offer up pleasure. The nose is classic wet rock Cornas. Palate is a bowl of unripened red and black fruits, minerality, and black olives.

Solid bottle of wine that has tremendous potential. In another handful of years, we could be in a sweet spot.

You know, dear fellow CTers, it occurs to me that we have a decided advantage over the rest of the population. Consider: I am an adequate to enthusiastic parent, a spouse who’s partner still occasionally makes me weak in the knees, a fierce dog lover, and a best friend. Why do I primarily wish to remain as healthy and cognizant as possible? What makes me think, “You go another mile, damnit,” or, “You wanna smoke WHAT?” It is the wine. It is all the aging wine.

Tasted by Rockterroir on 8/12/2023 & rated 92 points: Iron, wet stone, inky, tart dark cherry, still tannin on long finish. (2559 views)
Tasted by SH Wu on 2/19/2023 & rated 90 points: Concentrated black fruits with a big handful of savory spices and a small sprinkle of baking spices. Darker flavors of licorice and creme de cassis build a brooding backdrop for the experience.

This is a nice wine that likely still has some time to go before it shows its true colors. (3355 views)
Tasted by Vladutz on 1/30/2023: In a odd place right now, i would hold this a few years. Good but not opened for business (3375 views)
Tasted by VAGenius on 10/16/2022 & rated 96 points: Nose of bright purple fruit, perfumed flowers, and some dusty notes. Plush palate of deep, dark fruit with a powerful forward drive bringing iron, dried herbs, thistle, and wet rocks across the tongue. Wild finish with layers of boysenberry, damson plum, tart unripe cherry, wet soil, and slate. What a sophisticated wine that's drinking well but will certainly last quite a bit longer - it's hard to describe the nuances. (3803 views)
Tasted by pilatus88 on 6/5/2022 & rated 91 points: Undoubtedly a very god wine. However not to my style. (4274 views)
Tasted by happy712 on 4/30/2022 & rated 93 points: Decanted 5 hours. Classic stink on the nose that gives way to hidden fruit profile of Syrah. This won’t reveal its complexity until after the 4th hour. If you like funk and mold, you’ll be in heaven. Perfect with stinky cheese. (3770 views)
Tasted by Collector1855 on 4/3/2022 & rated 92 points: During a 67PallMall tasting event. Also here too young to touch. Very compact still and not releasing much aromas. Some aromas of dark fruit and farmyard. Polished palate. I would not touch this before 2028. 92-95 (4155 views)
Tasted by beatles on 4/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Tasted the whole range here, and this is certainly a seamless, yet local wine, very open for the vintage,. Plenty of garrigue, black olives, oriental spice - great depth. Young, men quite open for business, popped and pured this day - and it worked.

Tasted by eadsaaron on 3/13/2021 & rated 91 points: Lots of potential, needs a few years (4776 views)
Tasted by geoffreychambertin on 10/23/2020 & rated 89 points: Needs time. At least 5 more years. 90+ potential. (4439 views)
Tasted by mye on 10/23/2020: Darker purple, dark fruit, olive, and gaminess on the nose. Palate is also dark fruited, but at this point it’s quite tight. Full of potential, but compared to the 2011 really could use a few more years to mellow out. (4951 views)
Tasted by Mtpisgah on 8/16/2020: Fabulous wine. Needs more time and a long decant. (4864 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 3/6/2020 & rated 92 points: Northern Rhone Tasting (Restaurant Brunnenstube, Beinstein): Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, youthful-developing nose. A bit kitschy cherry fruit, some brett, tar, oak, speck, spices. Complex and nice.
On the palate rather fresh with a good, medium acidity. Medium+ tannin. Nice cherry fruit, spiciness. Drinkable now, but I would wait at least 5-10 more years. Good length and potential. 92+ (4871 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 7/9/2019 & rated 91 points: this took a few hours to open up, but showed really nice primary dark fruits, some game/olive in the back ground, decent amount of acidity and well hidden structure, good length finish. Needs about a decade or so (5229 views)
Tasted by acyso on 6/20/2019 & rated 90 points: HDH auction at Spiaggia; 6/20/2019-6/22/2019 (Chicago, IL): Quintessential syrah nose with a generous hit of black pepper here. Nice ripeness and power on the palate, but also a slight hint of funk on the nose. At this point, a little angular, so I think it's time to put these to bed for a while. (5620 views)
Tasted by MikeATL on 12/22/2018 & rated 91 points: Pure blackberry with a nice savory finish. (5180 views)
Tasted by acyso on 12/14/2018 & rated 90 points: HDH December auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): Heaps of black fruit, and a slight hint of reduction on the nose. The palate is large-scaled, with heaps of ripe black fruit, and lots and lots of tannin. Obviously very young, there's no sort of modernist polish on this wine. Quite good, even if it's not necessarily the northern Rhone I would reach for. (4519 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/14/2018 & rated 89 points: Wines Tasted at HDH Auction; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018 (Spiaggia - Chicago IL): Rich black berries, borderline jammy with plenty of black pepper. Good weight and length, but not very complex yet. (4884 views)
Tasted by salil on 12/14/2018: HDH Dec auction trip/dinners at SKY and RPM Italian; 12/13/2018-12/15/2018: Very ripe with impressive depth to the fruit here, but also showing a distracting varnishy note on the nose and some reduction. One of those wines that perhaps I'd have enjoyed more with a lot more air, but in a big lineup at lunch I didn't give this a lot of attention. (5530 views)
Tasted by acyso on 10/27/2018 & rated 90 points: Most of the 2015 Northern Rhones worth a damn, blind (Chicago, IL): Served single blind. There's a lot of spicy character in this wine, and part of it came from the oak, and there's ample red fruit as well. It's clearly a bit of a modernist take on the region, but it's done in a fairly nice way. It's not necessarily the kind of wine I'd ever want to pull from my cellar, but it's pleasant enough. I thought it had a slight bit of carbonic character, and the fruit was definitely on the red end of the spectrum -- thought there was a chance this was a Souhaut, but couldn't square it with the oak. (4470 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 10/27/2018 & rated 88 points: 2015 Northern Rhones Blind: Single blind. I really liked the distinct pepper in the nose, but the fruit was a bit too confected for my tastes. Rich and powerful, but just a touch too sweet.

Night 2 update: Very consistent on night two. Still sweet and ripe, with the fruit drowning out the wines subtleties. Not bad, just in a sweeter style than I prefer. (4439 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/31/2018 & rated 93 points: Deep dark brilliant purple; notes of licorice, anise, light barnyard/brett, concentrated blackberry with blueberry; some crushed granite, lavender-garrigue--very classic, aromatic, primary; silky smooth entry, fine but ample tannins, moderate+ acidity, lacking just a little lift as are most 2015's. Very nice, strong, should age 10-20 no problem. Try again in 3 yrs. Potentially 92-94. (3439 views)
Tasted by kosinski on 8/23/2018: Aroma: eucalyptus, lavender and berry jam.
Palate: spicy blackberries and cream with meaty notes. Baking spice. Good structure and length. Moderate acidity and nicely integrated tannin. Drink now or hold. (3315 views)
Tasted by LWI on 11/4/2017 & rated 93 points: Blind. Very dark and tight, almost blue; Ink, blueberries, smoke, animal fur, violent; moderate plus acid; quite a bit of tannin, high extract, structured, blue/black fruit, smooth, wonderful quality. (5419 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

### 2017 vintage ###
"The first red wines already tasted in the Northern Rhône promise a beautiful vintage, with a quality close to the 2015 or even the 2009 vintage" - NEWRHÔNE MILLESIMES
