 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 9/24/2023 & rated 94 points: So good ! (1699 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 7/21/2023 & rated 95 points: PNP. Deep dark ruby color. Blackberry, dark raspberry, tangerine rind, entirely chocolate cookie, and lavender. Very smooth, tongue drying palate. Firm, full tannins on the long finish.

This kept improving over an hour of drinking. It’s beautifully built, but a bit too confectionery. I feel like this is built to drink young despite its price point. (2465 views)
Tasted by alexlb06 on 5/18/2023 & rated 95 points: So refined, smooth, well structured. Ripe red fruits, fine tannins, some minerality. So excellent (1823 views)
Tasted by mischwine on 5/17/2023 & rated 95 points: Stunning! (1822 views)
 Tasted by shaferguy91 on 5/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Terrific. (1741 views)
Tasted by Condrieu82 on 5/12/2023 & rated 94 points: Opened for a couple hours to let it breathe. The nose is nice with aromatic wood, black cherries, and sweet spice.
Medium acidity, the spalle is a beauty with some minerals, lots of blackcurrants and blackberries, tobacco notes - this is very layered and flavors keep changing as it coats your mouth. Still young and mostly primary, it shows chalky tannins and balanced oaky notes on the long ending.
An amazing wine that shows why Napa is so highly regarded. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec. (1008 views)
Tasted by Golfer70 on 10/21/2022: Unbelievably good. Outstanding wine!! (1956 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 9/4/2022 & rated 94 points: Consistent with recent notes. A great 2016 with plenty ahead. (2302 views)
Tasted by KTelaak_Buffalo on 7/10/2022 & rated 94 points: This wine is GORGEOUS! Give it about a 60-90 minute decant and it delivers smooth fruit forward power. (2449 views)
Tasted by RockinCabs on 6/28/2022 & rated 94 points: Silky and seamless cabernet blend that has a core of black fruit, and a fine oak influence of spice box, cedar, vanilla and mocha. Still a baby, but the polished tannin and layered palate make this hard to resist now. (2474 views)
Tasted by ralaspech on 6/20/2022 & rated 94 points: 1 hour decant. Nose of purple and black fruit. Tastes of dark cherry, plum, blackberry, and blueberry fruit. Accents of graphite and leather. Medium acidity. Medium tannins. Very long finish. Elements nicely integrated and balanced. Excellent! (2401 views)
Tasted by fdub on 3/6/2022 & rated 97 points: Decanted for 30 minutes. This is a stunning Prop Red. Seamless and as Parker would say "liquid Haute Couture". So balanced and pitch perfect great now but still so much to give and develop. (2260 views)
Tasted by SGates on 3/4/2022 & rated 94 points: Dark, teethstaining, blueberry, blackberry, and black cherry, and leather with a long finish (1874 views)
Tasted by KTelaak_Buffalo on 10/24/2021 & rated 91 points: This wine was a crowd pleaser but I firmly believe it will show better with some additional time. A couple years.. Drank from a Magnum and decanted 3-4 hours. (683 views)
Tasted by MC2 Wines on 10/21/2021: Wine Spectator 40th Anniversary; 10/21/2021-10/23/2021 (Marriott Marquis): Can tell this is new world coming off a few Bordeaux. Good fruit, some alc. It's good but a bit intense at this age. (3301 views)
Tasted by Blue Jay on 9/11/2021 & rated 95 points: Smooth taste of blackberries, mocha, with very silky tannins. (2557 views)
Tasted by markcic on 5/27/2021 & rated 94 points: At the Pahlmeyer wine dinner at my club. The nose is dark fruit and a touch of chocolate. The palate was dark berries, plums, figs, tobacco and a hint of chocolate A nice long finish made this an extremely enjoyable bottle of wine. Served with the filet mignon wrapped in bacon. (3102 views)
Tasted by Winning_Wines on 5/3/2021 & rated 95 points: This was a real treat to enjoy. Amazing balance and finesse at 5-years of age. Only a touch of candied red fruits, which is exactly what I look for in Napa reds. No fruit bomb here. I wish I kept detailed notes, but this beat out 3ea separate vintages of Quintessa by a mile. (2768 views)
Tasted by Policarpio Cellars on 3/26/2021: Liftu (2722 views)
Tasted by Bobcat 31 on 1/10/2021 & rated 94 points: really good would buy again (2852 views)
Tasted by EvanJB on 10/17/2020: Drank with ddsolomon2000, wonderful Bordeaux blend (3131 views)
Tasted by gpritsch on 10/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Modern napa wine. Oak is in background. very young of course. incredible freshness. acidity comes in stronger on back pallet after the sip. some graphite and tobacco notes which i personally like a lot. Less approachable than the 16 Merlot. But i think this will age another 15+ years. Tannins are there, and will build a backbone to age on, but they are not very much in the foreground. (2765 views)
 Tasted by Wfekeci@gmail.com on 9/14/2020 & rated 90 points: 4.7 (2694 views)
Tasted by Ilikadajuice on 8/27/2020 & rated 95 points: 1.5 hour decant and smoking good from the first sip. Continued to develop throughout the evening. Can be consumed early in life with good decant but also built for the long haul. (2585 views)
Tasted by lvepicure on 8/24/2020 & rated 96 points: A wonderfully complex, structured, and beautifully stalwart adversary to typical Napa fruit bombs, especially at this price!
A beast that deserves another 3-7 years to coalesce and soften. After 1.5 hours it shows dark tobacco, dusty tannins, trace mocha, and menthol... Glorious, but needs plenty of time to show full potential. 5 hours later and it just starts to present itself. Vivid dark brambly fruits with cassis, graphite, and tilled earth. Magnificent! Hints of licorice and lavender. The ripe tannins match to the firm grained fruit.
This needs plenty of time, possibly 7-12 years to fully mature and realize potential. An absolute star! (2169 views)

Pahlmeyer

Producer website

Jayson Pahlmeyer, recently joined by his daughter Cleo Pahlmeyer, have been producing highly sought-after, seductive, hedonistic wines since 1986. Pahlmeyer's flagship wine is the Proprietary Red, a Napa Valley Bordeaux blend. Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir round out this stunning portfolio. These wines are produced from exceptional mountain vineyards in the Napa Valley and Sonoma Coast, including the Pahlmeyer family’s Waters Ranch (Atlas Peak AVA) and Wayfarer Farm (Fort Ross/Seaview AVA). These vineyards, coupled with winemakers Kale Anderson and Bibiana Gonzalez Rave's passion and talent, turn out wines with power and finesse.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
