| Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 24 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by David J Cooper on 9/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Bright medium red. Lots of red berry, cherry and plum fruit with some developing herbal earthiness. Delicious dry red berry and thyme flavours and a long dry textured finish. (1262 views) | | Tasted by David J Cooper on 9/12/2021 & rated 90 points: Very good young traditional Southern Rhone wine. Showing red berry, thyme and warm earth notes. It did shut down a wee bit after an hour or so. (1053 views) | | Tasted by Nyrican on 3/21/2021 & rated 91 points: Very nice left it in decanter approx 45 min before began drinking (1074 views) | | Tasted by ziavino on 3/9/2020 & rated 91 points: PnP, with initial notes of raspberry, red currant, smoked meat, and spice on the nose. Palate shows raspberry and red currant, with mixed herbs and hints of tar. Tannins are more robust on the finish than I'd expected, further poof that this is a year or two away from really singing. But it's elegant now, sporting a satiny mouthfeel and ample acidity to keep it fresh. (1788 views) | | Tasted by Stephen Rash on 1/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Purple to dark garnet in color and clear in the glass; Aromas of cherry, herbs, vanilla, and violets on the nose; fasted of cherry on the palate; medium(+) body, medium(+) acidity, medium(+) tannins; long finish. Harmonious and distinctive with acidity driving the wine into the finish. Great Gigondas from an incredible vintage. (1816 views) | | Tasted by Stephen Rash on 6/22/2019 flawed bottle: Corked (1620 views) | | Tasted by La Cave d'Argent on 6/6/2019 & rated 90 points: This opaque crimson wine (an unspecified blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault) is loaded with dark bramble fruits, blueberries, pickling spice, violets and Provençal herbs. Full-bodied, freshly acidic, seamlessly alcoholic (13.5%) and softly oaked, it wraps its flavors with medium-weight tannins that gain traction on the mid-palate and medium-length finish. This is a delicious, albeit rustic wine that will require a bit of time to tame its rough-edged tannins. Drink 2021-2028. (1787 views) | | Tasted by BuaidhNoBas on 2/2/2019 & rated 83 points: Light to medium body, needs more time in the bottle (1839 views) | | Tasted by df1962 on 2/1/2019 & rated 93 points: PnD let air for 2hrs.
Blueberry pie and tar (in a good way) on the nose and palate. Big and racy. Very primary at this stage. (1392 views) | | Tasted by Nyrican on 12/26/2018: LIKE A LOT VERY NICE GRANACHE WELL BALANCED NICE TANINS & FINISH (1161 views) | | Tasted by David J Cooper on 10/13/2018 & rated 91 points: Deep red. Ripe, rich smoky BlackBerry fruit. Very primary needs time . Delicious berry fruit and a very tannic dry finish.
Excellent with a great future. (1175 views) | | Tasted by Eric Guido on 8/23/2018 & rated 93 points: Here i found a deep, rich bouquet, loaded with blueberry, blackberry and baked plum, as smoky mineral tones began to mix in along with wild herbs and lavender. On the palate, I found silky textures, verging on full-bodied, as a mix of cherry, cranberry and blueberry fruits perfectly glided across the senses, aided by brisk acidity. Youthful tannin, minerals and spice seemed to saturate the palate, with an herbal, purple floral (or violet candy) airiness that hinted at many years of future development here. The finish was clenching and structured, drying the senses while resonating on a mix of tart red and black fruits. This wine needs time to relax but I'm very excited to see what it may become with a few years in the cellar. (1662 views) |
| Domaine Brusset Producer website On this family estate established in 1947, the Brusset family has managed to combine the "savoir faire" of traditional winemaking with the new techniques introduced by each generation. The founder, André Brusset (1910-1999), his son Daniel, and his grand-son Laurent : three wine-growers and wine-makers with a variety of experiences have all contributed to the distinctive character of the Domaine Brusset, where three complementary generations together have achieved the best results.
Domaine Brusset is one of the leading estates in Gigondas, an ancient wine region known for sometimes out-performing its close neighbour Chateaneuf du Pape. The family-run estate has terraced vineyards at the foot of the rugged "Dentelles de Montmirail" in Gigondas, with a south-southeast exposure at an average altitude of 250m. The vineyard is planted out with noble varieties and is capable of producing wonderfully rich wines. Laurent Brusset is a perfectionist winemaker and owner of the domaine. Founded by his grandfather, André Brusset, in 1947 with vineyards in Cairanne, Cotes de Ventoux, Mondragon (Cotes-du-Rhone), Cairanne and the crown jewel, 20 hectares in Gigondas consisting of 68 individual terraces on an incredibly steep slope. This is one of the most spectacular vineyards in Gigondas - the vines face due south and emerge straight from the stone: they can only be cultivated in terraces. Rich and intense with the precision only found in fine wine. Flavours are full and dark with incredible depth, yet the detail in it, the mineral frame, the dried herb character and the fine acidity is what put the wines of Domaine Brusset in the top echelon of Southern Rhone reds.Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
