Tasted by Bolognese Diner on 4/15/2024 & rated 93 points: One of the many highlights of this range, the Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is exceptional. A great enveloping wine, the Montestefano wraps the palate with surprising depth. Today, the Montestefano is completely embryonic, yet it exudes depth, resonance, and pure class. The Montestefano is one of the most complete wines in the selection for the way it skillfully balances intensity and fruit structure. However, readers will need to be patient.

(1421 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 3/11/2024 & rated 95 points: Decanted and drank over 2 hours w smoked chicken. Red cherry, medium body, hints of orange and rose. Terrific! (1896 views)
Tasted by NostraBacchus on 2/29/2024 & rated 93 points: Deep and youthful color, very primary, but very classic too. Notes of deep dark berries, some red berries too, tar, graphite, some violets, there is also some deep mineral note and some leather. Medium-full bodied, with medium-high tannin that is excellent quality and high acidity. Very good length. This still feels pretty young, but super classic, with very good potential. Something for purists. (93+) (1887 views)
Tasted by NickA on 10/10/2023 & rated 92 points: 2014 Barolo and Barbaresco (Terra Rossa): Musky, dark-toned nose, the fruit having a cassis quality rather than the more typical Nebbiolo cherry or strawberry. Again pretty dark on the palate, and also round and ripe, the tannins being well-integrated into and concealed by the fruit. A touch of something savoury too. Although quite approachable already, this weighty wine will almost certainly benefit from 5-10 more years in bottle. (2837 views)
Tasted by fussyeater on 10/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Barolo and Barbaresco 2014s at Terra Rossa (Terra Rossa, London N1): Pot pourri and forest floor on the nose. Fine boned yet with weight and energy. Really lovely balance and v classy and seems to speak of its place. My #2 WOTN. (2899 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 8/21/2023 & rated 91 points: From a magnum that had been slow-oxed for several hours. Surprisingly approachable with structure that is well-integrated and showing more silky than gritty. Classic and enjoyable. (3037 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 6/20/2023 & rated 88 points: 9 bottle box set - all blind

Medicinal. Disappointing (3417 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 3/17/2023: Decanted and drank over two hours. Was tight and a touch bitter until last glass. Last glass was red fruits w hints of cranberry. Drink w long decant o hold. 92+ (3388 views)
Tasted by Martin_G on 3/26/2022 & rated 90 points: Decanted 1hr before dinner, drank over 1hr. Great perfume, only lacking some intensity. Oak pronounced, but felt integrated after decanting. Palate had great entry, very full and high concentration. It was the mid-palate and finish that were this bottles' weak points, sadly. A bit dull/generic, the fruit wasnt expressive and detailed enough for me. Body med+, acid med+, tannin med. This feels almost ready now, not sure there is much improvement from here on. Drink, or hold. (CT window seems way off, based on this bottle) (4143 views)
Tasted by acyso on 2/6/2022 & rated 90 points: Vinetasters: 2013 Produttori horizontal et al. (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. The nose seems to imply this is a going to be a very chewy wine. Sweet black cherry on the palate, and while the there are plenty of tannins, this also feels fairly resolved. Given that I had thought that this was an older wine, perhaps something from 2007 or 2009? This certainly had more weight and concentration than the normale. (5338 views)
Tasted by Shloly on 11/23/2021 & rated 91 points: The wine is clear, with medium garnet color, and thick legs.
On the nose the wine is clean, with medium aromas of ripe red fruits, cherries, plums, mineral notes, earthiness notes, olives.
On the palate the wine is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium plus ripe integral tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium plus flavors of sour cherry, plums, olives, mushrooms, figs.
The wine is of a very good quality, due to its complexity, depth, and weight. It is a big, wide wine, which was very appealing and enjoyable at time of tasting, but can also benefit from more aging, which will soft down a bit the tannins, and will bring more of the secondary aromas and flavors profiles.  Tasted by kostaslonis on 11/16/2021: Tasting Ground official tasting, 2014 Produtorri del Barbaresco Riserva cru (Oinoscent): Deeper and different to Montefico, heautiful fresh red cherries, showing tar and a more violet character, a touch smoke, herbal notes, extrovert, big and beautiful
More elegant than feared, ripe red cherries, high acidity, loads of tannins, big body, closer to Barolo than all the others, long finish (3347 views)
Tasted by Lanzelot on 10/8/2021 & rated 94 points: medium ruby-garnet colored / nose: intense, strawberry, leather, tobacco, smoked meat / palate: high acidity, high and very silky tannins, medium bodied, very good length, red fruits, red currant, dry leaves / used glass: Riedel Veritas New World Pinot / overall: A great Barbaresco at the very beginning of the drinking window. It's still pretty closed. I will open the next bottle in 2 years at the earliest, 9/10 (special plus for balance and intensity) (4384 views)
Tasted by PVJC on 7/25/2021 & rated 93 points: Decanted 3 hours. Initially tight and very dry. Tannins mellowed a bit with decanting, still somewhat dry esp. on the finish, but good rustic Italian with pizza on an usually cool summer evening. (4181 views)
Tasted by Central Coast Sharon on 7/19/2021: Very dark ruby in the glass. Dark cherry on the nose. Cherry and leather on the palate with a very dry finish. (3118 views)
Tasted by brigcampbell on 2/16/2021: Blind: thought is was Nebbiolo and it ended there other than in a traditional style. The nose was kicking off cherry, it's a touch candied, but very enjoyable. (4199 views)
Tasted by Frank Murray III on 2/16/2021: Tasted blind. Perfumey, with red apple and spice (I had put this initially on Pinot Noir). Good density, along with a similar good complexity that shows spicy red fruits, brown spice, iron and an intense, long finish with a good dollop of tannin. With more air, this increased the structure and tannin, along with more richness and flesh. (4979 views)
Tasted by Satoshi Nakamoto on 2/15/2021: Served blind by Viet. The most approachable wine of the flight, so much so that I immediately pegged it as a Pinot. It wasn't until the reveal that I became a Monday morning quarterback, noting the structure, fleshiness, and tannic profile. Would love to taste this again! (3712 views)
Tasted by PVJC on 1/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Starts off promising with serious mature fruit on front palate, thinner more burgundy like mid-palate, then a short dry finish. (3716 views)
Tasted by hfc on 11/17/2019 & rated 91 points: Nearly as forward as the 2014 ovello. This one is more structured and complex. Take a 3-4 hours breath is good for the wine to open up. Age-worthy but very drinkable now. (6187 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 9/1/2019 & rated 90 points: Aromas of fresh red fruits. Fruity also in the mouth, with loads of fine tannins. Needs time. (5246 views)
Tasted by AB16 on 5/2/2019 & rated 93 points: Pretty wine with depth, lots of grape tannin and structure. 20 year wine. Great acid. Love it (5719 views)
Tasted by FjordogFjell on 3/28/2019 & rated 94 points: Smakt på middag med Produttori Del Barbaresco på Gaffel og karaffel. Fantastisk åpen og tilgjengelig frukt, rognebær (5088 views)
Tasted by HowardNZ on 9/8/2018: 2018 Visit to Produttori del Barbaresco with Aldo and David: As is typical for this most Barolo-like of Barbaresco sites, a precise, mineral bouquet of black currants, black cherries and some lifted dark florals. In the mouth, quite tight and closed, with large scale, but fine grained, tannins. Austere with a steely core. Very mineral with a “slight saltiness” Thierry detected. This Cru will need 8-10 years to fully uncoil, I’d imagine. (4436 views)

O ok just

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
