Community Tasting Notes (average 90.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 22 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by wgmccallum on 12/13/2023 & rated 92 points: Medium dark ruby. Shy nose of dark fruit, roses, a hint of sweet manure, a touch of vanillin oak. Fresh red and dark fruit on the palate, fine grip, medium to high acids, medium fine-grained tannins, aromatic back note on the long finish. Excellent with salmon burgers. (203 views)
Tasted by Beerzebub on 2/9/2023: P&p; ready to go right out of the bottle, pungent and expressive. Aromas of dark red fruit, smoke, black pepper, oil cured olives and leaves/sap. Nice depth, with a sense of substance and layered complexity. The fruit is richer and darker than it was a few years ago, lifted by ample acidity and working really well. Sappy, delicious, terrific wine, really scratching the Loire Cab Franc itch, wish this wasn't my last bottle. (613 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 9/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby. Aromas of chocolate, moist earth with ha int of boggy funk, red plums, lilacs, and roses. All encompassing fruit on the palate with dancing acids, shy tannins gaining crispness at the back, light to medium body, 13% alcohol. Fragrant aromatics at the back that give a glow to the short to medium finish. Lovely balance of light and dark. (578 views)
Tasted by pclin on 9/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Coravined. Expressive nose, flowers with smidgen of dark soils. Appeared to have added weight over the last one year. Full-bodied and dense, plenty of grainy tannins on mid-palate, mostly yet to resolve. A tad spicy at finish. Good length and concentration, didn’t taste like an entry level Loire wine, very good vintage of this bottling. Ideally should wait for few more years, should be very good when mature. (1239 views)
Tasted by penguinoid on 4/10/2021: Colour: clear medium ruby
Nose: clean, medium(-) intensity, secondary, youthful. Blackcurrant, bramble, strawberry. Tobacco leaf, green bell pepper, tomato leaf, blackcurrant leaf. Bergamot. Perfumed. Cedar, nutmeg.
Palate: dry, medium(+) acidity, medium(-) tannins, medium alcohol (13%). Medium intensity, medium length finish. Blackcurrant, bramble, strawberry. Tobacco leaf, green bell pepper, tomato leaf, blackcurrant leaf. Bergamot. Perfumed. Cedar, nutmeg.
Conclusions: very good. Can drink now, but suitable for ageing or further ageing.
Might’ve be a good idea to decant it in advance! Lacks a little intensity/concentrate, but very good nonetheless. (1249 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 3/26/2021 & rated 85 points: Deep ruby in the glass. Green bell pepper, plum, blackberry, blueberry on the nose. Tight on the palate, doesn't have the levels of acid expected which makes everything else quite weak. Fails in concentrations as well. More was expected to be honest. (1348 views)
Tasted by Swaggering Beaunie on 2/6/2021: We tasted this last night alongside three other Loire Cab Francs (2015 Olga Raffault Les Picasses, 2018 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Les Grézeaux, and the 2018 Domaine Bernard Baudry Chinon Le Domaine). Each bottle had a 3-hour decant followed by rebottling, and they were served at the 4 1/2 hour mark. When I first opened the Amirault, it was noticeably Bretty, but the Brett aromas disappeared during the spell in the decanter. The wine was good but not particularly remarkable at the 4 1/2 hour stage. It was only at the end of the evening, some 7 1/2 hours after first opening, that it lengthened considerably, and yielded those lovely boxwood/coffee/pyrazine/hazelnut flavors I so enjoy in Loire Cab Francs, which leads me to believe that this wine needs quite a bit more aging to show itself properly. If you have this one, try it in 2025. (1112 views)
Tasted by Bearbus on 1/4/2021: Great, classic (892 views)
Tasted by winchester-xi on 12/18/2020 flawed bottle: Corked (750 views)
Tasted by wgmccallum on 11/3/2020 & rated 93 points: Soft sweet aromas of forest floor, flowers, espresso, and red fruit. Sweet clarity of fruit on the palate with clean spread of acid on a tight tannic base. Perfect with sausages and pan-fried brussel sprouts. (703 views)
Tasted by Beerzebub on 9/8/2020: P&p. Very much like it was one year ago but more open and expressive (by chance I wrote a note exactly one year ago). Drinking well; in a good place right now. (701 views)
Tasted by Alycat14 on 6/30/2020 & rated 81 points: Tobacco, cherry, wood chips, crisp acidity (853 views)
Tasted by Bearbus on 6/13/2020: Lovely dark earthen caverns, some green pepper/capsicum, great drive, grip, acidity. Nice vintage! (679 views)
Tasted by pclin on 5/23/2020 & rated 93 points: ESDD#20. PnP. ABV 13%.

Clean floral nose, no brett, thank God, that’s a good start. Sweet and smooth on the entry, fine tannins, good concentration and length. Ripe fruits and bright acidity. Medium-bodied. Just hints of oaks, also comes with some tobaccos at the end. Excellent balance, already a delight to drink. Amirault is so underrated, WS Pro shows average price of £14 per bottle, great QPR, hard to imagine anything better at the price point. Time to back up the truck. (1085 views)
Tasted by winchester-xi on 4/7/2020: Mute for the first two hours, then only grudgingly gives up aromas of raspberry coulis and red and black plums, followed by a strong anise note. On the palate, the tannins are well-hidden and the wine has a very pleasing, medium weight texture, and mild intensity, with nothing remotely rustic or green. The bright fruit and darker spice are joined by a loamy note. On day 2 it comes across as less polished: the spice elements dominate the nose, with more intensity and prominent tannins apparent on the palate. Nice wine that needs time. (955 views)
Tasted by Wine Canuck on 3/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Pours deep ruby to the rim. Transparent, though almost opaque at the core. The aromas coming from the glass are absolutely gorgeous, already complex today. The assertive nose wafts dark cherry, mulberry, celery seed, crushed gravel, burlap, peanut shell, wet hay, and a touch of animal fur. The palate feels just a touch dilute and light on entry, but medium minus tannin and medium acid provide structure. The medium plus finish replays much of the cherry and mulberry fruit of the nose. Quite a lovely bottle that I'm excited to follow. (1783 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 1/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Geranium aroma. Berry flavors with green and twiggy notes, the latter of which fade into the background with air time. Mineral notes in the finish.

This is drinking very well, and very young. If Loire green leaves don't bother you, this is excellent right now. And whether they bother you or not, this should be great in a few years. (963 views)
Tasted by @sebastienwine on 11/17/2019 & rated 89 points: Somewhat thin and lean with upfront tannins and black fruits.
As it opens up there is more lifted aromas of sweet herbs and red plums. Benefits from decanting. Juicy and bright with balanced alcohol. (935 views)
Tasted by CWilliam on 10/31/2019 & rated 90 points: Didn't take notes. Enjoyed this over 2 nights. Beerzebub's note is spot on from memory. Will buy some more - excellent QPR and great Loire Cab Franc typicity. 90-91 range (926 views)
Tasted by Beerzebub on 9/8/2019: P&p; enjoyable right away but at its best with 90+ minutes of air in the bottle. Nice pungency and typicity, although a bit tightly wound. Black pepper, stony/earthy, savory oil-cured olive, moderate greens/weeds/plant sap (along the lines of dandelion greens), and slightly smoky sorts of aromas, with tight dark-reddish fruit lurking in the background which comes out more with air. Similar flavors, sappy and stony, medium-bodied, fully dry and slightly bitter, with good acidity and lingering, somewhat coarse/rustic tannic grip. Not sure I would bring this to a party, but for fans of the style this is a fun, characterful wine, with good depth and substance for its modest price, and totally scratches the Loire Cab Franc itch. (853 views)
Tasted by christyler on 2/22/2019 & rated 90 points: Juicy, delicious and great. No need to age. A teeth stainer. (1187 views)
Tasted by Eugenedinapoli on 5/31/2018: Medium purple. Juicy, joyful, with the tannins to stand up to a grilled ribeye. Zero funk and only the slightest bell pepper and herbs in the background. The perfect summer red. (1122 views)
