Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 27 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Henman on 11/4/2022 & rated 90 points: On the nose nice aromas of vanilla, ripe yellow stone fruit, a whiff of apricot. Medium(+) bodied, dry and smooth, showing subtle vanilla, creamy notes and ripe yellow stone fruit with firm acidity. A bit linear but still very good at this juvenile stage. (740 views)
Tasted by SuperSomm on 11/1/2022: Pale lemon colour. Light and developing nose with yellow apples, toast, bread dough, cream and wet leaves. Medium taste of yellow apples, bread dough, cream and wet leaves. Medium long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A good South African Semillon that lacks length and concentration. Drink now or over the next five years. Goes well with cheeses or fish. (339 views)

Tasted by NickBurwood on 5/15/2021 & rated 90 points: As per note of September '20.
Drinking this case far too quickly! Excellent as it is but with potential for even greater things given a few years of improbable self control.
Now and probably for 15 years from vintage. 90+ (1376 views)
Tasted by forceberry on 11/17/2020 & rated 89 points: The grapes are sourced from three vineyards, planted in 1902, 1936 and 1942. Fermented spontaneously and aged for 14 months in barriques (90%) and concrete eggs (10%). No MLF. 13,85% alcohol 2,2 g/l residual sugar, 5,0 g/l acidity and pH 3,40. Tasted in a Boekenhoutskloof Sémillon 2017-2005 vertical.

Youthful, pale yellow-green color. Youthful, expressive and quite nuanced nose with aromas of ripe red apples, some candied gummi bear tones, a little bit of creamy oak, light notes of savory wood spice and even a whiff of sawdust, a hint of sweet, tropical fruit and a touch of fresh stone fruits. Quite a bit of fruit and sweetness here. The wine is full-bodied, ripe and firm on the palate with rather concentrated flavors of spicy red apples and, exotic spices, some creamy notes of panna cotta, light toasty oak tones, a little bit of sweet apricot and fruit candies, a hint of stony minerality and a touch of savory wood spice. The high acidity lends good sense of balance and structure to the wine, while the touch of residual sugar lends a subtly sweet edge to the flavors. The finish is rich, long and spicy with complex flavors of apricots, exotic spices, some creamy oak, light notes of savory wood spice, a little bit of slivered almond and a hint of apple jam.

A very youthful yet still very sophisticated and harmonious new world Sémillon with lots of ripeness and quite a bit of concentration. Overall the wine feels a bit too young for its own good; the fruit still retains a bit too sweet primary edge and the oaky tones are somewhat to the fore. However, as a whole, the wine shows good overall potential and is definitely built for the long run. Let the wine wait for a few years just to let it get its game together, or wait for 8-10 years to let the wine develop some tertiary complexity and reach another level altogether. Perhaps a bit pricey for the quality at 38,89€, but most likely will be worth if let to age and grow into its full potential. (1858 views)
Tasted by Duncan H on 10/16/2020 & rated 91 points: Delicious - vibrant peaches and apricots on the nose. In Mrs H's words: "Sunshine in a glass"! (1123 views)
Tasted by NickBurwood on 9/17/2020 & rated 90 points: A wine on the up.
Significant viscosity, vanilla oak core and packed with dense ripe but fresh stoned fruits. Full but dry. Big in every sense!
Drinking well already but this, I sense, has a bit of the Riesling evolutionary about it. Now and, I suspect, up to 15yrs from vintage. 90+?+ (907 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 8/3/2020 & rated 91 points: A blend of 98% Sémillon and 2% Muscat d'Alexandrie. Old bush vines (the oldest from 1902) on alluvial soils. Pressed with the stems, spontaneous fermentation and 14 month maturation in 90% new French oak and 10% concrete eggs. Non malo, 13.5% ABV, a relatively small production of 10,000 bottles. Pale lemon colour. This is quite a powerhouse - they don't do subtle here. Lots of toasty and spicy oak, ripe but not tropical fruit (lemon, orange, melon), concentrated and creamy palate with lovely balancing fresnhess (TA 5 gr/l), rich but dry (RS 2.3 gr/l), vanilla on the finish. At restaurant Neni, Amsterdam, NL. (1706 views)
