Gorgeous wine. Nose of gracefully aging fruits. Beautiful integration on the palate. Smooth structure and supple feel. Finish of lovely dark fruits with some age.
Drinking beautifully now. No doubt will hold awhile longer but no reason to wait. (18 views) | | Tasted by ShadowIII on 4/29/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking very nicely, currants, cassis, blackberry, spice, cigar box, pencil lead, integrated tannins, nice finish (730 views) | | Tasted by Rbhan12 on 9/1/2022 & rated 94 points: Decanted off sediment, followed for two hours.
Lovely mature nose primarily of earth with deep integrated but subtle fruit. Palate has retained good acidity, which in turn elevates the fruit to a powdery pink floral tone. Velvety and integrated tannins. There is structure from oak but essentially no tasting signs of it being present. The finish doesn’t last forever but it has enough power to stick around.
This is a lovely and elegant take on California Cabernet. Not overripe or over oaked. This is drinking very well now without signs of being tired.
Drink now or hold for a little while longer. (1236 views) | | Tasted by Amerique on 11/20/2021 & rated 95 points: Delicious round, soft blackberry fruit, excellent structure, fully open and aged, long finish, drink up (1605 views) | | Tasted by Rebs in Chicago on 6/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Lovely nose of camphor, black and blue berries with a beautiful perfume of violets and baking spices. The color was a gorgeous deep red with a medium body. Just a whiff of green peppers, tellicherry black pepper, mocha, and mint. I’m sad this is my last bottle because it is so well integrated and drinking so well al this time. (1720 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 4/17/2021 & rated 93 points: Ruby red. Beautiful fruity and floral nose. Decanted for 30 minutes, which was sufficient. Modest amount of sediment. This wine is a blockbuster. Silky smooth texture. A full, fruity burst of flavor with some secondary notes of moist earth and camphor. Black raspberries, plums, currants, baking spice and a hint of cola and toast. This is big without being overwhelming or heavy. Fantastic and still on the young side. Hard to postpone having another.... (1699 views) | | Tasted by Bosbevok on 1/31/2021 & rated 98 points: Deep brooding blue/purple. Marvellous wine. Wonderful dark fruit and cassis on the nose. Beautiful oak integration, chewy tannins. Texture is like molasses, incredible viscosity and malleability of the wine. Concentrated flavours of red and black fruit, menthol and liquorice. Still just an infant with 20 or 30 years to go. Brilliant expression of Napa Cabernet, top 10 for sure. (1578 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 11/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Another great bottle. 2 hour decant. Mint and camphor nose, with raspberries, licorice and a bit of coffee. Rich mouthfeel. A bushel of fruit and chocolate that is quickly followed by secondary notes of licorice, cinnamon, toast and a very long finish. Great wine, great vintage. (1358 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 8/15/2020 & rated 94 points: Consistent with recent bottles. Excellent. Needed the 2 hour decant and continued to evolve in the glass. (1185 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 11/2/2019 & rated 94 points: 1 hour decant. Consistent with last bottle. Hitting a good place, but many years to go. (1495 views) | | Tasted by Charlie C on 6/8/2019 & rated 92 points: I bought these during a brief flirtation with Kapcsandy wines. It was brief largely because I can't spell the name without doing research.
OK, back to reality. Dark fruited on the nose, black cherries. The palate is dense with currants, black cherries, semi-sweet chocolate, bit of tobacco. Nice acidity. The tannins are bearable, but really need another year or two to soften (for my taste anyway). Luckily there is enough fruit here to keep waiting. Good balance. Long, lingering finish of dark fruits and spice. I'd drink these over the next 4 years, but I'd prefer to wait 1 or 2 first. 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 4% Cab Franc. 14.1% ABV. (1684 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 5/5/2019 & rated 94 points: Decanted for 1 hour. Modest sediment. Rounder, more integrated, complex and balanced than the prior bottles. Six months more age has helped. Cigar box, leather and camphor hit right away. As the endless finish progresses, it transitions to blackberries, plums and blueberries on the endless finish. (1537 views) | | Tasted by huevosconvino on 4/16/2019: Seems like this wine has peaked, it's still remarkable but I'd drink up now if you have it. Cassis and mild cigar box notes with a silky, well-aged and well-integrated profile. Delicious. (1455 views) | | Tasted by George Lopez on 12/31/2018 & rated 95 points: This wine is in a really good place right now. The tannins have melted away and there's still a lot of good fruit left in this 2005. Aside from the dark fruit notes, we tasted a lot of black pepper (even jalapeno pepper) and dark chocolate on the mid-palate. The finish was very smooth. (1532 views) | | Tasted by soyhead on 12/14/2018: nose - sweet red fruit, fig, mouth - nicely integrated, complex red fruit starting to show some evolved characteristic, nicely mineral. excellent showing. ready to drink but no immediate rush. (1209 views) | | Tasted by mchern02 on 10/31/2018 & rated 93 points: One hour decant
Nose: red fruit with hints of black fruit; minerality and slight herbs but quite nice and highly perfumery. A bit of flint and after another hour some dark anise.
Palate: dark black fruit, some grape chew, well balanced and supple without being over bearing. Broad flavors in the berry camp. Medium to light acidity with medium plus structure
Finish: nice, mouth coating with moderate length. Nearly no tannins unresolved (822 views) | | Tasted by Lateva on 5/31/2018 & rated 95 points: Wow, this surprised me. Pop and pour and ready to go. Great red and blue fruited perfume, as well as leather and cedar notes. Great palate feel, light on its feet with good grip and balance. Feels more Bordeaux than any other 2005 Napa cab I have had, yet still having the California fruit profile. Great wine! (1557 views) | | Tasted by Papies on 3/22/2018 & rated 92 points: By the 50ml Glass via Coravin @ 67 Pall Mall, London, from a magnum. Very much waiting to be unleashed and given time this will become really special. A restrained Napa cab bright and young at this age but in no way sharp or austere. Just not yet in full strive.. Dark fruits, herby notes, light spice, very little to n oak on the nose. Very classic in a way. Similarly on the palate and give this wine 10 years and it will reward you tenfold. Solid 92-93 for now. (1729 views) | | Tasted by Brsed on 1/13/2018 & rated 94 points: Really liked this. Very elegant and balanced - new world fruit with a tip of the hat to old world winemaking. Excellent depth of fruit with layers of leather, earth and olives. (1542 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 9/22/2017 & rated 92 points: Blood red. Aggressive tobacco and cedar nose that lead directly into the attack. The wine was so tight and astringent at first that it was tough. Let it slow-ox for 4 hours and that did the trick. Cigar box took a back seat to black raspberries, chocolate, moist earth, tarragon. Definitely need to let this breath. (1689 views) | | Tasted by jimyeni on 7/1/2017 & rated 93 points: Very approachable and in it's drinking window. Showed really well tonight. (2084 views) | | Tasted by Red Sox Fan on 4/30/2017 & rated 93 points: First glass, poured right after the bottle was opened, was tight and primary. Decanted the rest of the bottle and the second glass was much more open. Enjoyed the bottle over several hours, drinking well with a 30-60 minute decant. (1692 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 2/4/2017 & rated 92 points: Drinking well, but has a number of years of age left in it (1869 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 9/11/2015 & rated 94 points: Consistent with other bottles. Yowza. Beautiful, delicate nose and a finish that goes on forever. (3099 views) | | Tasted by PDavisMarble on 10/18/2014 & rated 91 points: Consistent with prior bottle, but younger -- give this one at least another year (3633 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |

| Kapcsándy Family Winery Producer websiteRed Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.State Lane Vineyard On weinlagen-infoUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Napa Valley Napa Valley Wineries and Wine (Napa Valley Vintners)Yountville Appellation America |
