| Domaine Brusset Producer website On this family estate established in 1947, the Brusset family has managed to combine the "savoir faire" of traditional winemaking with the new techniques introduced by each generation. The founder, André Brusset (1910-1999), his son Daniel, and his grand-son Laurent : three wine-growers and wine-makers with a variety of experiences have all contributed to the distinctive character of the Domaine Brusset, where three complementary generations together have achieved the best results.
Domaine Brusset is one of the leading estates in Gigondas, an ancient wine region known for sometimes out-performing its close neighbour Chateaneuf du Pape. The family-run estate has terraced vineyards at the foot of the rugged "Dentelles de Montmirail" in Gigondas, with a south-southeast exposure at an average altitude of 250m. The vineyard is planted out with noble varieties and is capable of producing wonderfully rich wines. Laurent Brusset is a perfectionist winemaker and owner of the domaine. Founded by his grandfather, André Brusset, in 1947 with vineyards in Cairanne, Cotes de Ventoux, Mondragon (Cotes-du-Rhone), Cairanne and the crown jewel, 20 hectares in Gigondas consisting of 68 individual terraces on an incredibly steep slope. This is one of the most spectacular vineyards in Gigondas - the vines face due south and emerge straight from the stone: they can only be cultivated in terraces. Rich and intense with the precision only found in fine wine. Flavours are full and dark with incredible depth, yet the detail in it, the mineral frame, the dried herb character and the fine acidity is what put the wines of Domaine Brusset in the top echelon of Southern Rhone reds.Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
