| Community Tasting Notes (average 89.5 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 7 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by grafstrb on 3/16/2024: -- decanted approx. 30 min. before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hrs. -- -- 37% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 22% Syrah, 11% Counoise, 5% Tannat --
NOSE: dark red berries, with slightly smoky/savory underpinnings.
BODY: dark ruby color; medium-light to medium bodied.
TASTE: juicy red fruits --- this speaks of Grenache; hint of smoky/savory carries from the Nose on to the palate; savory strawberry, and a touch leafy; 14.0% alc. well-hidden; medium concentration of fruit; light tannins and medium acidity; Drink Now and over the near term. I liked this well enough, but it was nearly $50 after club discount, and I can't honestly say I liked it any more than I would numerous CdRs at [less than] half the price. (436 views) | | Tasted by wilypod on 10/14/2023 & rated 90 points: Lovely and round with a sensuous texture I also found in the 2020 Esprit. Complex, suggestive bouquet of ethereal floral and meaty (but not grilled or smoky) notes. Translucent red garnet color, just a little darker than Grenache typically shows. Mouth was fleshy on day 1, more aromatic, structured, and tannic on day 2.
The 2020 Tablas Creek reds show deft winemaking. In the long run, they may not measure up to the reds from the spectacular vintages of 2019 and 2021. But they are really friendly and offer a great deal of early drinking pleasure.
One is reminded of composer Robert Schumann's remark about Beethoven's symphony no 4:"a slender Greek Maiden between two Norse giants." 89-91 (1126 views) | | Tasted by tward on 7/14/2023: Reds Tasting at Tablas Creek (Paso Robles) (Tablas Creek Winery): Excellent+. Loved this. Showing well already, plum, dark fruit, savory. Needs time and I'll lay some down.
37% Grenache 25% Mourvedre 22% Syrah 11% Counoise 5% Tannat
This is their all head trained, dry farmed blend.
Update: This really needs a long decant right now to show itself properly. Otherwise, wait a solid 5+ years. (1256 views) | | Tasted by chull on 11/20/2022: Fall shipment, Medium Body, youthful tannins, nice nose (1869 views) |

| Tablas Creek Producer website Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.Red Rhone Blend Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.
A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
