Community Tasting Notes (average 91.3 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 197 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Vinumming & Ahhing on 4/30/2024 & rated 93 points: Reading Offline #1 - Alino's Thames Lido Dinner - Mixed Whites and Reds (The Thames Lido, Reading): OMG. This is right up my street; colour so pale and youthful. If served blind you'd guess 2019. Nose has precision and focus but in a confident understated way; lime cordial with hints of papaya. Some classic hints of kerosene and some dill. Palate is fresh and long with a lime oil core with some toasted sesame seed flecks around the edges. (274 views)
Tasted by alanr on 4/22/2024 & rated 93 points: Moderately golden color, light on the nose with some hints of savory fruit; don’t remember if I had this closer to release, now it’s rounded out a bit from what was surely a more austere, steely profile, medium depth, starts out slowly, then the intensity builds slightly before turning more mineral, but with a nice dash of more lush fruit. Still a rock head wine, though softened considerably, and drinking beautifully at almost 20 years. (392 views)
Tasted by ylkim30 on 4/21/2024: Ye Olde Riesling Dinner (SDK - Castro): A little more white fruit driven than the Austrian wines, though still primarily mineral-forward on the palate. This does feel ripe for a CFE, and while the acidity is sufficient and lively, it’s a little richer and fuller than other iterations of this wine I’ve had in the past. Still quite good, but definitely not as steely and tense as I expected. (360 views)
Tasted by ohne_musik on 4/21/2024 & rated 96 points: Ye Olde Rieslings: Terrific! PnP, and opens over the course of the evening. A mouthful of rocks, racy acidity, redolent of flowering quince, a hint of pineapple / guava, golden raisin. Tons of dry extract and a long, long finish. So sexy - not something I've not experienced in the handful of CFEs I've had, which have usually displayed more structural/intellectual gifts rather than overt pleasure. Still very young and will continue to evolve. Let's call this tied for WOTN for me -- it may not have the sheer class and completeness of the Nikolaihof, but it a pleasure-seeker's wine that can hold its own in a roomful of intellectual wines.  Tasted by jsmorris707 on 12/12/2023 & rated 93 points: Similar to prior note after SO for 1 hour; delicious, drink or hold (818 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 12/8/2023 & rated 91 points: Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Pre X-Mas tasting (Private Location): Glass: Zalto Universal
Tasted double blind.
Clear, deep golden color. Ripe nose with some yellow stone fruit, lactic notes, fresh butter.
On the palate round, balanced, lots of yellow stone fruit, chalky mineral notes, some botrytis, lacks tension on the mid palate, medium fine length. Drink now. 91 (735 views)
Tasted by gabird on 12/3/2023 & rated 93 points: Fresh lemon hits you first but the mineral and smooth base balances nicely. Theres a green apple presence here with some honey but not too sweet. Maintains its mineral structure - just a lovely Riesling and still drinking wonderfully. (617 views)
Tasted by chatters on 11/14/2023: Lemon over lime backed by honey initially on the nose. Time brings a little forest floor, mushroom, tiny smidge of apricot. In the mouth juicy acidity and glycerol fatness, a little closed and tight on the back palate but opens with time to show lemon curd, honey, harmonious, rather lovely. (851 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 9/23/2023 & rated 92 points: Enjoyed alongside a 2009 Auslese to show the striking differences of acidity and sweetness.
This was my final bottle of 2005 CFE, last had a bottle about 5 yrs ago.
It was electric, mineral and flinty on the palate, with racy acids and a bone-dry finish.
Lovely, and firing on all cylinders. (794 views)
Tasted by ericindc on 8/3/2023 & rated 93 points: One of the bestter rieslings I've had in a while. really petrol and grape nose. Intense fruit, dry obviously, with strong acidity and a really stony/minerally middle. Just a hint of herbal in the finish. An all around excellent bottle of wine. Drinking really well, but no rush. Over 3 hours, the last bit was the best, so maybe decant? (782 views)
Tasted by chatters on 3/9/2023: Coravin fun - European Riesling (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Peach, stone fruit, a little waxy note, ripe apples, slight buttery/creamy notes and a touch of spice, a little lime with time. Medium plus intensity acidity, apple, lime, cream, muted stone fruit in support. Long. One of the betters ones of these I've had. Nice (1255 views)
Tasted by culater on 2/4/2023: Last bottle, PnP, Riedel Riesling glas.
With sushi. It was flat and without energy.
Next time drink earlier. (1143 views)
Tasted by culater on 1/21/2023 & rated 90 points: 12C, Riedel glas. Blue cheese pre dinner. Chicken asian style food. Nice but a bit less of everything (1118 views)
Tasted by culater on 8/15/2022 & rated 90 points: Best at 10-12C. In Riedel riesling glas. With grilled shrimps in garlic/chili. Rice & tomato/ onion/ garlic sauce. Good match. And excellent with roquefort and 2h of decant.

…fading now..still good with petroleum, rubber and some lime, chalk.

Drink within a year and it still have something really good offer. (1492 views)
Tasted by VDLT Wine on 7/29/2022: This wine epitomized the versatility of Riesling with food. It was vivacious, well balanced, beautifully fruited and beautifully medium bodied. It likely could have paired well with all of the 5 courses in out tasting menu. Several recent notes suggest this as fully mature or close to it. This bottle seemed young with plenty of fresh fruit and acidity to age well for a while. (1387 views)
Tasted by cct on 7/27/2022 & rated 93 points: Pop and poured. Drunk over a few hours.

A ripe nose for CFE. That said, it is still a soil driven nose with oyster shell, preserved lemons, with a sense of stone and steeliness, citrus fruit, and honeysuckle florals. On the palate, it's midweighted, broader than most years, but with terrific balance. It's ripe and powerful without any heaviness. Steely and beautifully focused with more oyster shell and a sense of stoniness. It has enough acidity to carry its size effortlessly. Like drinking mineral water. Finishes long but simultaneously clean and fresh. Everything is is harmony here. A relatively Baroque CFE and drinking extremely well right now. This doesn't have the magic of the 01,07 or 08, but it is in a great spot right now. Im sure it has time in hand, but for me, this is drinking at its apogee. Delicious. 93 (1283 views)
Tasted by culater on 6/23/2022 & rated 91 points: At the end of its drinking plateau. Will drink my last 3 bottles asap. Gallo mellon garspacho with mint, spice. Good match! (1213 views)
Tasted by GEL Wines on 6/5/2022 & rated 89 points: Again disappointing. Flat. Hoping my other bottles are better. Drink up. (1184 views)
Tasted by Andrewbdc on 4/20/2022 & rated 93 points: Back on form with this last bottle of the case.
Medium gold. Pronounced aromas of ripe citrus (mandarin) and tropical fruit, wet stones, honeysuckles, petrol. Developing. Dry palate, high acidity, medium (+) body, medium alcohol, rich, medium + flavours similar to the nose, very mineral, long finish. Outstanding Riesling, beautifully balance between acid and fruit concentration, complex and concentrated, long persistent finish. This is drinking beautifully, why wait? (1266 views)
Tasted by Twowinechicks on 4/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Straw-gold, medium-to full-bodied, great viscosity, hints of lychee nut and white flowers on the nose, and piercing intensity, with a finish that seems to goes on for days. Wow. So sad this was the only bottle we had left! (1216 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 3/15/2022: Healthy yellow. Dry tropical fruit on the nose (guava or papaya?). Medium body, wonderfully harmonious feel. Dry, lemon and guava flavors, beautiful acidic backbone, and fine soil. Fresh as can be. The 2005 Frédéric Emile has been the most frustratingly inconsistent vintage of this cuvée that I have experienced, yet this, my last bottle, turned out to be the best of them all and quite excellent. I wouldn't go so far as to say "classic" since the quality of fruit is unusual to say the least, with none of the stone fruit that is usually so prominent. (1766 views)
Tasted by kingkanu on 12/27/2021: Ripe orchard fruits, a bit of diesel, a lovely line of acidity, minerality through the mid palate, dried orange peel, a bit of honey on the lengthy finish, light in texture and feel (13%) mature and very enjoyable, hasn’t moved much in the last 4 years and is likely to stay here for a while longer yet, but probably not for the very long term (1567 views)
Tasted by AccaDacca on 11/25/2021 flawed bottle: Corked (1509 views)
Tasted by AudunG on 10/30/2021 & rated 91 points: Dark yellow. Aromas of ripe orange, grape fruit and some woody notes. Ripe and opulent in the mouth. A grate FE, but more developed than I would expect. (1561 views)
Tasted by jsmorris707 on 8/20/2021 & rated 94 points: Similar to prior note after PNP except more acidity resulting in a difference from white hermitage; delicious, drink or hold (1858 views)
