Reading Offline #1 - Alino's Thames Lido Dinner - Mixed Whites and Reds (The Thames Lido, Reading): OMG. This is right up my street; colour so pale and youthful. If served blind you'd guess 2019. Nose has precision and focus but in a confident understated way; lime cordial with hints of papaya. Some classic hints of kerosene and some dill. Palate is fresh and long with a lime oil core with some toasted sesame seed flecks around the edges.

Moderately golden color, light on the nose with some hints of savory fruit; don’t remember if I had this closer to release, now it’s rounded out a bit from what was surely a more austere, steely profile, medium depth, starts out slowly, then the intensity builds slightly before turning more mineral, but with a nice dash of more lush fruit. Still a rock head wine, though softened considerably, and drinking beautifully at almost 20 years.

Ye Olde Riesling Dinner (SDK - Castro): A little more white fruit driven than the Austrian wines, though still primarily mineral-forward on the palate. This does feel ripe for a CFE, and while the acidity is sufficient and lively, it’s a little richer and fuller than other iterations of this wine I’ve had in the past. Still quite good, but definitely not as steely and tense as I expected.

Ye Olde Rieslings: Terrific! PnP, and opens over the course of the evening. A mouthful of rocks, racy acidity, redolent of flowering quince, a hint of pineapple / guava, golden raisin. Tons of dry extract and a long, long finish. So sexy - not something I've not experienced in the handful of CFEs I've had, which have usually displayed more structural/intellectual gifts rather than overt pleasure. Still very young and will continue to evolve. Let's call this tied for WOTN for me -- it may not have the sheer class and completeness of the Nikolaihof, but it a pleasure-seeker's wine that can hold its own in a roomful of intellectual wines.
