Tasted by Bolognese Diner on 3/26/2024 & rated 100 points: A poem, an immense wine. The duration on the palate is measured in minutes, with autumnal, balsamic, and fruity notes of macerated strawberries. Charisma and drinkability, it's impossible not to be drawn to a wine like this. Pure Perfection.

Una poesia, vino immenso. La durata sul palato si misura in minuti, note autunnali, balsamiche e fruttate di fragoline in macerazione. Carisma e beva, impossibile non essere attratti da un vino del genere. Pura perfezione. (479 views)
Tasted by connorpksmith on 3/2/2024 & rated 97 points: Vietti Rocche Vertical: PnP over an hour. Served blind. It was immediately apartment when this was brought out that it would be the star of the evening. Beautiful violet, red ruby in the glass. Aromas of dried leather, pomegranate, florals, cooked cherries, and smoked meats. The palate was smooth as velvet with layers and layers of brighter, powerful red fruits, with a fresh level of saline and acidity to round out this incredible wine. My WOTN and my WOTY so far! 96-97 (508 views)
Tasted by Robmcl920 on 2/4/2024 & rated 97 points: La Festa del Barolo Masterclass (The Pool, NYC): The '15 Crichet Paje was the wine of the tasting that blew me away. Haunting aromatics of sweet red berry fruit and red florals w/ iron, smoke, and a hint of leather, a perfect combo of fruit & savory characteristics. Such a pretty wine with incredible sweetness on the palate, very fine grained tannins that are already integrating nicely, medium high acidity. Perfectly balanced. Seems like you could easily drink a bottle of this today, and my only question is if it will get better with age. (970 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/3/2024: 2019 Barolo Masterclass at La Festa del Barolo (The Pool, New York): Light ruby with fading outer quarter. Translucent. High toned aromas with savory notes of bark and tar. Gorgeous, subtly expressed red fruit and citrus, a unifying, long thread of soil, and gentle, lingering tannins that impart some youthful bitterness but don’t detract from the lovely persistence. Savory and so refined. A terroir wine that has exquisite lightness. Oh man, I’d never tasted a Crichët Pajé before, and now I know what all the fuss is about. Early days for this but easily the wine of the tasting for me-whoops, it wasn’t even a 2019 Barolo! (960 views)
Tasted by kenv on 2/3/2024 & rated 100 points: Vinous 2019 Barolo Masterclass (The Pool Restaurant, NYC): [“I’m the sorbeto.” -Luca Roagna]
Herbal red fruit in the nose. Ethereal from start to finish. A wine of such finesse and quality. Explosive in the mouth. Amazing, a show stopper. I wanted to cry at the beauty of this wine. Sadly it is well over $1000 here in the US. (719 views)
Tasted by cct on 2/3/2024 & rated 98 points: Festa dal Barolo 2019 Masterclass (The Pool, Manhattan): Festa dal Barolo Masterclass

Oh my. A lung filling nose. It's deep with balsam, cooler nebbiolo fruit, spice and savory notes. On the palate, sapid and expansive without weight. Powerful yet effortless. Graceful. Deep. Very long. Seamless, effortlessly gorgeous wine. Very long on the back end with the usually coarser tannins of Paje yet finer. Effortless. Harmonious. Fantastic. 98 (680 views)

Roagna

Producer website

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
