| Community Tasting Notes (average 88 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 5 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Drrobjo on 4/16/2019 & rated 93 points: Showing elegant bright Nebbiolo fruit with long length and balanced acid that was not overwhelming. Nice nose that was soft and floral but not prominent. Very balanced barbaresco that is ready now (461 views) | | Tasted by SuitePhoto on 5/10/2015: Perhaps this just needed some time? One dimensional when first opened, an hour of air worked magic. Tart red fruits, tobacco and a touch of oak influence (not overwhelming), with silky tannin. A really nice drink with red sauce and pasta. Many thanks to the CT community- ho-hum reviews here made others pass this bottle up. (1152 views) | | Tasted by chad1616 on 1/10/2009 & rated 89 points: Took a while to open up but wonderful once it did. Light brown color, mellow tanins - very nice wine. (1806 views) | | Tasted by cseanb1 on 6/10/2007 & rated 82 points: Decanted upon opening. Drying tannins fade after 2 hours. Brick red. Aromas of tar and cherry are delicately followed onto the palate. Finish is short. @ $20 for a 375ml, I would not purchase again. (1940 views) | | Tasted by carlwhat on 5/19/2006: very tasty barbaresco. light and feminine with tar and licorice nose. very enjoyable, although not a real serious barbaresco... does not have the stuffing.... but truly great table wine.... great QPR (are those the initials?) | NebbioloNebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.
Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.
"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.
Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.
