Tasted by eboracum on 4/9/2023 flawed bottle: My last bottle. Corked! (323 views)
Tasted by redders on 12/10/2022 & rated 92 points: Amazingly deep colour. An elegant rather than muscular Tourtine. Bramble fruit some garrigue. Smooth balanced and long. Very good. On plateau but will keep (307 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 3/24/2021 & rated 95 points: Very deep garnet with some (but hardly excess) maturity.
An immediately attractive nose with sweet black fruit, then - with aeration - more pruney, sour cherry and leather notes, with touches of garrique and an almost rose-like perfume. There is an early waft of brett, but that seems to blow off quickly.
Really impressive attack with lots of elegant black fruit, sour cherry, tobacco and sweet chocolate. Some fairly obvious tannins persist. This is really beautifully balanced with great poise and elegance. I was expecting that this might now be fading, but it's really impressive. I don't think I'd guess this is almost 25 years old.  Tasted by mhudes on 11/5/2020 & rated 90 points: Thursday night Football with Walter (49'ers vs Seahawks). Two hour decant. Medium red color. Floral nose. Initially surprising dark fruit on the palate followed by the expected earth, leather and garrigue. Medium body with tannin subsided. Went nicely with grilled cheese sandwiches and meatballs. After 90 minutes, it began to fade a bit. Still a very nice drink that may have peaked a little earlier. (543 views)
Tasted by eboracum on 9/16/2018 & rated 94 points: Mature Tempier Bandol is one of the greatest delights in my diminishing collection and is my default go-to choice with lamb. This bottle was one of the very best showing medium++ body, still fresh strawberry and plum infused fruit, balsamic and tar touches with perhaps a hint of varnish, velvety texture, still lively acidity and a firm long finish with ripe resolved tannins. These words, however, don't properly convey the fragrant harmony of this wine. Excellent. (911 views)
Tasted by eboracum on 4/1/2018 & rated 93 points: This was an exemplary mature Bandol, medium/full bodied showing still fresh red fruit, balsamic touches, suave texture, hints of tar and some secondary forest floor development alongside good acidity and still firm though ripe tannic structure. Great with Easter lamb. Excellent. (855 views)
Tasted by Tony Molester on 11/22/2015: No formal notes, but very good with lots of leather and still quite a bit of fruit.

Drink up.

Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 4/23/2014 & rated 95 points: Good, even colour showing some maturity. Lovely nose: perfumed, slightly garriguey, slightly horse-sweaty, bloody red and dried black fruits.
Really rather gorgeous palate. So beautifully integrated. Really rather poised. Still plenty of good fruit, with some sour cherry and chocolate touches. Most of the tannins have integrated, but there's still just a touch of gentle drying at the sides of the mouth from the remaining tannins.
A really stunning bottle. (2365 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 12/31/2011 & rated 92 points: Mature colour. Attractive nose, with mature black fruit, with a touch of sour cherries, creamy vanilla and bacon fat. Very attractive palate. For the first couple of hours after opening and decanting, it felt a little tired, but with the passage of time, it opened up and recaptured its youth. Good, poised black fruit with nicely integrated tannins. Really good balance. Bit of a chocolate-coated blackberry and rhubarb sweets (if you can imagine such a thing) on the finish. (3614 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 11/10/2010 & rated 89 points: On the nose there's fairly mature black fruit, some delicate floral perfume and a hint of smoky bacon. There's a good integrated feel on the palate, again with nicely maturing fruit. Quite poised and precise with a pleasing purity of character. There are still some soft, sandy tannins and some very pleasing acidity on the finish.
A very neatly, precisely, well-made wine, but it seems to me to lack some of the character I'd hope to find from Tempier. Blind, I'd really struggle to identify southern France, let alone Bandol. (3296 views)
Tasted by Ben Andersen on 1/25/2006: Color less advanced than I was expecting. Somewhat muted aromas of licorice, light garrigue, and leather. Notably spicy on the the palate, with rather firm tannins, though it comes together nicely on the finish. Flavors of licorice, earth and reddish fruit. Interestingly, this seems less advanced than bottles of '96 Cabassaou I've had (from a different cellar). This was my only bottle, but I would wait a few more years if I had more. (4310 views)
Tasted by andrewstevenson.com on 9/21/2005 & rated 90 points: In the glass, the wine's appearance is of a very even, maturing garnet with the very, very tiniest hint of youth at the rim. The nose is meaty and savoury with damson fruit, new leather shoes and rosemary. Good attack - very round and balanced with good fruit and loads of spicy character. Soft, gently drying tannins on the finish with a nice acidic balance after. Excellent length. Very Good Indeed. (3595 views)

Domaine Tempier

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Domaine Tempier is located at Le Plan du Castellet. Its vineyards stretch over three different communities- Le Castellet, Le Beausset and La Cadière. The plots of land are thus far apart and require extra work. But the soil of these different areas yield distinctive cuvées -Spéciale, Migoua, Tourtine and Cabassaou - as well as interesting and complex blends for white, rosé and red wines.
Domaine Tempier owns 30 hectares. It produces AOC Bandol exclusively - an average of 68% red, 29% rosé and 3% white wines, approximately 120,000 bottles per year
