  • Amazingly deep colour. An elegant rather than muscular Tourtine. Bramble fruit some garrigue. Smooth balanced and long. Very good. On plateau but will keep

  • Very deep garnet with some (but hardly excess) maturity.
An immediately attractive nose with sweet black fruit, then - with aeration - more pruney, sour cherry and leather notes, with touches of garrique and an almost rose-like perfume. There is an early waft of brett, but that seems to blow off quickly.
Really impressive attack with lots of elegant black fruit, sour cherry, tobacco and sweet chocolate. Some fairly obvious tannins persist. This is really beautifully balanced with great poise and elegance. I was expecting that this might now be fading, but it's really impressive. I don't think I'd guess this is almost 25 years old.

  • Thursday night Football with Walter (49'ers vs Seahawks). Two hour decant. Medium red color. Floral nose. Initially surprising dark fruit on the palate followed by the expected earth, leather and garrigue. Medium body with tannin subsided. Went nicely with grilled cheese sandwiches and meatballs. After 90 minutes, it began to fade a bit. Still a very nice drink that may have peaked a little earlier.

  • Mature Tempier Bandol is one of the greatest delights in my diminishing collection and is my default go-to choice with lamb. This bottle was one of the very best showing medium++ body, still fresh strawberry and plum infused fruit, balsamic and tar touches with perhaps a hint of varnish, velvety texture, still lively acidity and a firm long finish with ripe resolved tannins. These words, however, don't properly convey the fragrant harmony of this wine. Excellent.
