The fruit seems darker after breathing for a few days. The tannins are mellowed out and the finish is a bit nicer.
Drank this and the 2008 together. This bottle had lots of sediment while the 2008 had none. This also had just a bit stronger tannins. (2047 views) | | Tasted by matthewjhale on 12/27/2012 & rated 90 points: Cherry, cranberry, licorice and laquer thinner on the nose. Rich, bright and tart the second it hits your palate, with cherry and cranberry. Medium bodied, medium tannins, mouth drying. Mouthfeel continues for awhile on the finish but the flavor fades pretty quickly. (1805 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 1/6/2011: A bit earthy for a dolcetto, and not exactly to my style. Others, such as Marchesi di Gresy's, I find bright and more compact. Also, a bit over-extracted for my over-opinionated dolcetto palate. (2688 views) | | Tasted by mn_horn on 11/1/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice earthy character, which gives it a rustic appeal. The acid was also a good component. The finish is a bit short. All in all, this is a nice dolcetto from a good producer. At only $10, I could add this into weekday rotation. (3348 views) | | Tasted by Meerlust on 7/21/2010 & rated 87 points: Bright cherry fruit and dusty, earthy flavor profile. There are some tannins still left in this medium-bodied wine with balanced acidity. The finish is moderate. (2920 views) | | Tasted by mnmsupp on 7/19/2010 & rated 87 points: Dusty nose, med body, lt. finish. Red fruits, acidic. Went well with the Spaghetti and red gravy. (1613 views) | | Tasted by kenthargis on 12/18/2009 & rated 80 points: Not particularly enjoyable. Very basic with not much freshness or appeal. A bit funky. Better wines at this price range. (1692 views) | | Tasted by Ben Christiansen on 5/12/2009: Traditional producer fairly less well known. Dolcetto spice but with a touch of funkiness. Lively, balanced, classic (in the best possible way). Not as full powered as Sandrone (in terms of smell), not as delicate as Marchesi. Rustic. I like it at $17. (1692 views) | | Tasted by Apollo_Creed on 5/4/2009 & rated 88 points: Fun little surprise. Very fresh. Sort of herbal and fruity. Easy drinking. Probably a great food wine as well. Seemed pretty versatile. (2119 views) |

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)Dolcetto Varietal character (Appellation America)
Dolcetto, a northern Italian varietal from the Piedmont region, is a lighter bodied red. This wine is fruity and means 'little sweet one' in Italian. Some will opt to put a slight chill on it. Perfect with Mediterrean cuisine such as grilled meats and vegetables. Enjoy as a summertime delight. from (Woodward Canyon website)Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorPiedmont Vignaioli Piemontesi (Italian only) On weinlagen-infoAlba Consorzio di Tutela Barolo Barbaresco Alba Langhe e Roero
Alba is a town and comune of Piedmont, Italy, in the province of Cuneo. It is considered the capital of the hilly area of Langhe, and is famous for the white truffle, peach and wine production. Piedmont is in the Northwestern region of Italy, bordering France and Switzerland. Piedmont is predominantly a plain where the water flows from the Swiss and French Alps to form the headwaters of the Po river. The major wine producing areas are in the southern portion of the region in the hills known as the "Langhe". Here the people speak a dialect that is 1/3 French and 2/3 Italian that portrays their historical roots. Their cuisine is one of the most creative and interesting in Italy. Nebbiolo is the King grape here, producing Barolo and Barbaresco. In addition, the Barbera and Dolcetto are the workhorse grapes that produce the largest quantity of wine. Piedmont is predominantly a red wine producing area. There are a few whites made in Piedmont, and the Moscato grape produces a large volume of sweet, semi-sweet and sparkling wines as well. |
