Tasted by bon vivant on 3/16/2022 & rated 92 points: Last of 3 and it aged beautifully, a testament to the longevity of WH Chards. In general found that the 2007's aged much better then the 2006's . (310 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 8/15/2016 & rated 91 points: Subsequent notes on this wine from over two years ago. Medium-light golden yellow in color. Forward, attractive & aromatic nose of developed & complex ripe fruit aromas of apples, pears, citrus notes of lemons/limes & stone fruits with overtones of floral notes of honeysuckle & minerals, flinty, wet stones, almonds, some butterscotch, spices, some toasty oak & a hint of vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, developed & complex, crisp, ripe flavors of apples, grapefruit & citrus of lemons/limes with some butterscotch, spices, stony, minerals, toasty oak & a touch of vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & may be at its peak of development, so drink up. It has aged quite well. (1270 views)
Tasted by loloFR on 2/14/2016 & rated 90 points: full mouthfeeling, expressive nose. this wine is about power in a balanced way. nose is full of brown butter, almond, tropical fruits ( pineapple), brioche, honeyed citrus and spices. the taste is viscous, oaky, pretty aligned with the nose and a spicy finish. overall very good, maybe a bit too much (oak and spices)for my personal taste. the quakity is there, rather a question of style.  Tasted by Shigginsok on 1/31/2016 & rated 95 points: Some funk on the nose; honey, vanilla, hazelnut; truly outstanding chard.

Tasted by wabi47 on 1/11/2016 & rated 91 points: yup on the nut and vanilla; sweet white peach; smooth mouth feel; more vanilla than i prefer, but well integrated, and the fruit and texture stand up to the oak. (1326 views)
Tasted by scott davis on 10/11/2015 & rated 91 points: Darkening golden color, with pear and white fruits on the nose. The palate shows citrus, mineral, and sweet oak notes. A touch of herb adds to the interesting flavors. The finish is clean and compelling. (1375 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 10/2/2015 & rated 91 points: Still holding up well.
Golden color.
Interesting nose showing butter and oak.
This has developed some additional character since last bottle was consumed. (632 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 6/8/2015 & rated 91 points: Nice and soft with the requisite aCid to keep it alive. Slightly too high on the vanilla and oak but impressive for an 8 year old new world chard. The flavors are mostly nutty and vanilla. Very good for the price. (1145 views)
Tasted by Mingestrom on 11/24/2014 & rated 92 points: At it's peak now (see earlier note) (954 views)
Tasted by Vinnut on 7/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Medium-light golden yellow in color. Forward, attractive, well developed and complex nose of ripe fruit aromas of apples & pears, citrus notes of lemons/limes & grapefruit with floral notes of honeysuckle, flinty, wet stones, some butterscotch notes, spices, minerals with toasty oak a bit of vanilla in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of mature & well developed, complex & balanced, smooth textured, ripe flavors of apples, grapefruit & citrus of lemons and limes with some butterscotch, spices, stony, minerals, toasty oak and a touch of vanilla. Long lingering crisp finish. Drinks quite well at present and is at the peak of its development although it does have the structure to hold onto this current plateau for another year or two at most but I doubt any further development would occur.  Tasted by jlgnml on 2/17/2014 & rated 92 points: Full body, good oak, very good nose, rich and integrated favors. Savoired over the entire meal. Great (1367 views)
Tasted by Dvogt on 10/8/2013 & rated 92 points: Apple, lemon, pear, some complexity, best with food. (1485 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 8/11/2013 & rated 89 points: A nice chardonnay to begin a Greek dinner. (1427 views)
Tasted by St Paul on 11/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Nice sweet candied fruit with lemon in focus. Quite fresh. Not bad at all. (1922 views)
Tasted by Mingestrom on 11/25/2012 & rated 91 points: Apple and lemon/lime and vanilla on the nose, rich with nice balance on the palate. Well structured and almost Burgundian in style. Very tasty with good acidity. (1879 views)
Tasted by Wine Poor on 9/9/2012 & rated 91 points: Had this with a nice dinner of grilled chicken marinated in a honey mustard curry/garlic sauce. Oaky, buttery, nutty chardonnay. Lots of alcohol that makes you feel like dancing. Nice to have a couple more. Let's do it again next week! (1727 views)
Tasted by Ellenkf on 5/24/2012 & rated 87 points: this wine has a harsh note to it, almost resiny, burnt toasty overwhelms any fruit, and a little hot. enjoyed this less than i remembered before. full bodied chardonnay, rich but heavy. (1728 views)
Tasted by PDavisMarble on 4/15/2012 & rated 88 points: Pretty golden yellow. Crisp nose of green apples and lime. Creamy, fruity chardonnay. Not particularly complex, restrained -- elements of citrus, apple and a bit of oak. Not special though a very good value. (1735 views)
Tasted by edman on 2/16/2012 & rated 89 points: I do not find this that balanced, it lacks in acidty and the oak is overwhelming. Too heavy for me. (1788 views)
Tasted by Dvogt on 1/30/2012 & rated 92 points: Light, golden apple yellow in appearance. Citrus and floral, slightly bland nose. Citrus notes and early ripe peach, mild acidity, medium minerality, balanced flavors. Very nice. Maybe shut down at the moment. (1470 views)
Tasted by winecat9 on 1/28/2012 & rated 89 points: Time has been good for this wine. The excessive oak when last tasted is now much more integrated and complimentary of the fruit. Still would like to have less oak and additional mineral components but a good effort. Hindered by a slight alcohol heavy finish. (1426 views)
Tasted by jfkwines on 7/8/2011: Wine was nearly frozen in a fridge debacle, was probably too cold for accurate reading, but it is very good stuff. A bit heavy onthe acid, but went well with roasted turkey and veggies. Lemon and honey but heavy in themouth feel. I look forward to trying again. (1920 views)
Tasted by diane.forgy@dianeforgy.com on 5/1/2011 & rated 92 points: Very enjoyable, citrus fruit, full bodied, oak & butter not overwhelming but evident, acidity rounds it out. (2196 views)
Tasted by cubswinws on 2/7/2011 & rated 90 points: Big wine with lots of oak and butter flavors. Still alot of fruit to pull it off. Probably better in 2-3 years. (2472 views)
Tasted by winecat9 on 12/25/2010 & rated 88 points: Too much oak. Fruit is pleasant but covered by the oak. May be slightly lacking in acid. (2634 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
