Tasted by enataf on 4/25/2024 & rated 65 points: Nice smell, full nose of ripe fruits. Taste is a bit bitter and short. Nice experience but not as nice as a few years ago m, is this wine past its drinking window? (106 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 4/20/2024 & rated 91 points: Fragrant bouquet, ripe plums and black fruits, dark chocolate, roasted fennel and expensive oak. Very delicious smell. Palate is fresh and persistent. Medium-bodied mid-palate. Nice transition to a deep and lingering finish. (123 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 12/22/2023: Starting to get into the zone perhaps? Cedar, pine needles, the fruit is there but hiding behind the structure. Finely etched but old school midweek claret. Just what the doctor ordered. (573 views)
Tasted by Mascarello59 on 8/9/2023: Pas mail du tout!
Belle phase de maturité. (752 views)
Tasted by eboracum on 5/13/2023 & rated 91 points: There has been quite a transformation since my bottle about three years ago. The nose has become expressive with typically Médocain blackcurrant fruit infused with a touch of noble green and discreet cigar box. This follows through onto the medium bodied palate where the fruit has become more gracious and more complexity has developed leading to a decently long and well supported finish. This is now a worthy successor to the very good wines I had in most vintages from 1988 to 2001 but, alas, it is my last bottle. Very good. (936 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 1/22/2023: Teenage Birthday Celebration, Confit Duck, Chips and Terminator 3: Colour - garnet. Nose lovely heather and sandalwood. Palate - an intriguing sourness - almost too much at first. With time (and duck) opened up, the herbaceous elements became more prominent. Lovely stuff - not up there with the very best vintages of this wine, which can be marvelous, but decent. Will try to wait a while to open my next and if I don’t manage that, be sure to give a healthy decant. (1431 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 12/13/2021 & rated 91 points: This has aged very well, turning into a classic example of Poujeaux.

Notes of spring flowers accompany the slightly jammy red cherry and blackberry aromas, but the crisp attack shows that this is still very youthful and chirpy. Great notes of red cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant, an elegant and distinguished feel to it, even a hint of rosehip on the finish.

Beautiful wine and amazing value at 16€ at release. (2843 views)
Tasted by Psdycp on 11/28/2021 & rated 91 points: Classic Poujeaux personality. Savoury and refined bouquet of smoked herbs, ripe blueberries and black plums, dark bitter chocolate and leather. The same experience is found on the rich and smooth palate, just a small burst of plush fruits, power and acidity in the mid-palate. Medium-bodied structure which is full and open. Smooth transitions from the entry to the finish which still had some chalky tannins. 2-3 years furthe aging might help to soften the tannins but it is unlikely to improve the overall integration. A worthy wine to have a few bottles in the cellar nonetheless. (2500 views)
Tasted by MattHo on 5/16/2021 & rated 90 points: Deep crimson colour, bramble nose and a good amount of fruit. Good to drink, but not great. Quite a mouthful, quite tannic. Coming together, but it will be a while before really well integrated. Good with a roast, but strong stuff. (2780 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 2/6/2021: “Running” Club Zoom night Vintage Pairs (Zoom): Perfectly decent left bank claret. All the pencil shavings and cigar box you would expect. No rush to drink these, and I feel that a few more years will cause it to open up a bit and become more endearing. (3338 views)
Tasted by lozatron on 11/22/2020: Saturday night - Carbonara, His Dark Materials and a Mr & Mrs Zoom...: Couple of glasses coravined into a decanter and drank over 90 mins or so. Colour crimson, on the nose a little muted at first, whiff of cigar box and forest floor. On the palate - takes a while to open up but really exactly what it should be - overperforming decently priced claret. Not in a rush to drink these. (3319 views)
Tasted by CAVEYE on 11/5/2020: Zeer mooie Moulis. Wel nogal krachtig, vraagt om bijpassend gerecht ( saucisses met bloemkool). Veel bosbessen, ook in de neus. (2362 views)
Tasted by eboracum on 7/12/2020 & rated 88 points: This wine is medium bodied at most, gently fruited and softly textured with good balancing acidity and some firmness on the finish. However, it lacks the grip, complexity and class of the several vintages of Poujeaux which I have had in my cellar from the 80s and 90s and which IMO were equal in quality to many 3ème GCCs. Conventional wisdom says that the estate went into some decline in the early 00s but that it has picked up under the Cuvelier family which acquired it in 2008. This bottle's label bears the Cuvelier name but it is probable that their influence was not yet being fully felt. Up to good bourgeois standard though. (2645 views)
Tasted by the shrub on 6/21/2020 & rated 91 points: Really like this. Earthy with good bite. Mature nose and flavour profile. Years left in it (2272 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 6/19/2020 & rated 90 points: (Decanted for one hour)
Deep red colour with a youthful nose showing violets, herbs and some oak in a pleasant way. Still showing a nice austerity of tannins on the palate combined with some dried herbs on the warm finish showing some fruity sweetness. This matched grilled meat very nicely and should keep well for quite some time to evolve the tertiary notes.

Tasted by winchester-xi on 6/5/2020: A nice, modest Bordeaux. I’m more or less with Julian Marshall, below. But I have to add that the very toasty oak is very out of control, in my humble opinion. I can’t imagine it integrating in a thorough way until 20 years from vintage, at minimum, and perhaps considerably more. And are folks really planning to cellar these into the 2030s? Bit of a head-scratcher to me, especially given that it’s otherwise drinking quite nicely. (1910 views)
Tasted by CAVEYE on 4/27/2020: Zeer elegante goed uitgebalanceerde Moulis. Mooie afdronk. Fijne wijn voor bij lichte maaltijd (1925 views)
Tasted by mike410 on 3/25/2020 & rated 93 points: 2008 is definitely not my favorite Bordeaux vintage but this wine is much better than most Grand cru's. Well balanced, medium to long finish, and very good fruit presence of red and black berries. Good presence of vanilla and oak. Well done. (1765 views)
Tasted by Julian Marshall on 12/16/2019 & rated 90 points: I was surprised to see this described as tannic - mine certainly wasn't. It's a charming, elegant wine with moderately persistent fruit and a certain finesse to the grainy middle section. Not the best Poujeaux ever but an enjoyable one and quite good value, unlike recent vintages. (2229 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 3/2/2019 & rated 88 points: (Decanted for two hours)
Blue red colour with a nose showing chocolate, red berries, wet stones and flowers in a mature and pleasant way. Smoothing tannins on the palate and fruit starting to dry up, rounder on the mid before some tertiary notes take over showing hints of leather and mushrooms on the alcohol warm finish. This was decent for the vintage, but not the best of years I’ve had of this.
(Probably best 2018-2033) (1588 views)
Tasted by Zorba on 8/5/2018 & rated 88 points: This was a bit green and tannic, disappointing for one of the better known crus bourgeois. Preferred the similar priced 2008 Haut-Bages Libéral I had a couple of weeks earlier. (3281 views)
Tasted by djhammond on 6/25/2018 & rated 88 points: Just to reiterate previous notes, the wine possesses a very rustic profile with a green nose and gripping tannins. I feel it has reached its natural level, and does not really show any signs of potential evolvement. However, it is enjoyable for what it is and good value if bought on release. (3767 views)
Tasted by MattGeneve on 4/11/2018 & rated 89 points: Seems to be open for business. Dark in colour. Interesting stony and grassy nose. Good flavour and concentration. Not the greatest finish, a touch bitter and tannic but maybe just needs some more time. A little bit of alcohol poking through on the end. (3858 views)
Tasted by pabernatchez on 3/10/2018 & rated 86 points: Nothing thrilling here. Nose is discreet, but agreeable.
Palate is rather dull at best: little flesh or fruit, mainly (soft and fine-grained) tanins and an average length finish. Not sure this is ever going to get much better, but will wait until I open next bottle, as there is little excitement in drinking this now. (3961 views)
Tasted by Piero3003 on 1/24/2018 & rated 90 points: En apéro dinatoire (saucisson, endives jambon béchamel).
Excellent, très équilibré, nez marqué sur les fruits rouges. (3869 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman

VdB

The eight precisely defined appellations of the whole of the Médoc (from Blanquefort Brook to the north of the Bordeaux built-up area, almost to the Pointe de Grave) may claim the Médoc appellation. But there is also a specific territory in the north of the peninsula which produces exclusively wines with this appellation. In the great majority, the Médocs come from the north of the peninsula. The great individuality of this region is that the number of vines has increased more recently here than elsewhere, apart from a few isolated spots where vines have grown for many years. Today, the size of the small estate has brought about the development of a powerful co-operative movement. Four co-operatives out of five belong to the group called Unimédoc which ensures aging, bottling and marketing a large proportion of their wines.
